Vacancy for a coach to challenge O’Neill orthodoxy

914

If/when minds at Celtic get around to considering a replacement for Alan Thompson it would also be wise to recognise the international nature of the game.  Lennon, Mjallby, Parker and Thompson were all football sons of Martin O’Neill, rooted in the domestic tradition of the game (even the Swede).

Football philosophy drifts slowly between national boundaries carried by successful coaches and players.  Right now the ambitious teams in the world are trying to ape the Barcelona/Spain model, the success of which is hard to argue with, but whether we look for a Spanish influence or not, we must surely look for a voice to challenge what the current management team regard as orthodoxy, in all aspects of the job.

You’re not the only one. I can’t get in to following Drama series on TV. I do enjoy a good comedy for light relief from this mental world but the ones people go on about (and it ain’t just CQN, I’m never done being told at work to watch this show, or that box set – where the hell do they get time?) not for me.

We should start a chat about what programmes we enjoy not watching……..

I divine from your posting that you were a big fan of “The Klangers”…way too Leftie for me…The “Soup Dragon” clearly was intended to represent The Unions, sabotaging Britain’s Golden Industrial Future….and the ‘Soup Dragon” is quite obviously Arthur Scargill.

    ‘Magic Roundabout’?…. Don’t even go there….

With all this subtle brainwashing of our young impressionable children,it’s no wonder that so many of our posters grew up to be foam mouthed swivel-eyed lefties….intent on destroying our Enchanted Sceptred Isle….

  10. Great idea from Paul67? – but it’s not going to happen, much more likely that when you appoint someone he’ll be subservient, or like minded to the way you think i.e. Neil Lennon thinks.

STV reporting that Juarez is away……..shame I liked the look of him when he arrived.

Efrain Juarez has left Celtic to join America in the Mexican championship.

The 24-year-old came to the SPL in 2010 after impressing at the World Cup in South Africa, but quickly fell out of favour.

The Mexican international spent last season on loan at Zaragoza, where he was reunited with former international coach Javier Aguirre.

A statement on the America website said: “The club is aiming to arm themselves in the best way possible for the 2012 Apertura and we welcome the arrival of our third signing, Efrain Juarez from Celtic.

Juarez has 39 caps for his country, scoring a single goal during a 5-0 defeat of El Salvador in 2011.

In your line you know more about this, than most.

But let’s just say had Celtic wined and dined AT, flown him on a luxury holiday to Barbados lavished hime with gifts – then told him he’s been dismissed, MSM would still try to whip the Celtic faithful into frenzy, by saying it was badly handled.

AT was sacked, and when you lose your job at Celtic, there is a reason.

I’m happy with that, and will remember Tommo for his on field contributions ( his goal against Barca) as a Midfielder and as a coach, for two trophy winning seasons.

  21. Kojo…

WGS has a great enthusiasm for coaching….and he is one of the game’s thinkers…

He has maintained a keen interest in the game…during his ‘sabbatical’…and gets himself around to watch games far and wide…

He is covering the EUROS as a pundit..

His Scouting intelligence can be most useful to us…

I think some folk are just too quick to denigrate WGS….because he is a Wee Red Heided Scotsman….

He is constantly furthering his education, rather than letting complacency set in…

I don’t think NL would now feel challenged by WGS’ presence…

Besides,WGS seems to have opted for a sensible work/life balance….and does not appear to be attracted to the prospect of Club Management,at this time in his life..

I think WGS is a much more intelligent chap, than most posters on here would. give credit…

It’s summer and cqn books again.

Why not try Norman Mailer’s ‘An Advertisement for Myself’ – if it’s still in print?

It’s a hotch potch of articles and observations but there’s some great stuff in it – the Kennedy nomination in LA, ‘Death’ – an essay on boxing, the Mafia and a lot of issues which dominated the later sixties.

  23. Kojo..

    * and NL cannot perform his duties as a manager…AND spend so much time coaching on the training ground…even if he were minded to…

There needs to be an equitable distribution of duties, within the coaching staff…

Now who gets to hold the Clipboard at matches…now AT has departed ??
