I have been keeping an eye open for whispers on the central defender front. Although we have already brought Marvin Compper in this month, Brendan could be tempted into trading a few (cough) of the existing squad, so there could be more arrivals.
Reports in Poland this morning suggest Arsenal’s 20-year-old central defender, Krystian Bielik, could be heading on loan to Scotland, despite Legia wanting to loan back their former player. Celtic have worked the academy system at PSG and Manchester City recently, would not be surprised if we were scouting Arsenal too.

Field of Dreams , there was a furore about Michael Bates playing an Indian in it ain’t half hot mum
Technically , it could be said he was Indian as he was born there . He ended up being able to speak Hindi and some other dialects from the sub continent . I’m sure he was also an officer in either an Indian regiment or the Ghurkas .

If it was , what potential he had . I thought George was very skilful but John was even better.
I saw him score great goals against Germany and England u/15’s .
I’m sure he had to give up football as he had. Blood clot in one of legs, which was a travesty. He had so much talent.

Correct. I played against Celtic BC – was younger but he scored three goals – 2 with left foot & 1 with right .
To me better than George ( but like everything else potential as I never seen or played agaist George).

I only saw John play for Scotland under 15’s and he looked great and there were high hopes for him. George had made the breakthrough to our first team when John was playing under 15’s for Celtic Boys Club.
George was a very talented player who could be frustrating at times but was a regular scorer for us.

Just read John McGlashan passed away at only 50, i think he was part of the Scotland U15s who won that famous game at Wembley along with The Maestro, pretty sure he was with Celtic too.

i played the year above Gerry Britton at West Park Boys Club in Bishopbriggs and he was a standout as a young guy.
Dugald McCarrison i played against for when he was at CBC and he was a tank! Won the Scottish with Lesmahagow High School too i remember.
Gerry Creaney i met on holiday in Ibiza in ’91 and knew after that holiday that he would not go the distance at Celtic.
Of the three i though Dugald was the best

My kids definitely didn’t know what to make of it. But Michael Bates, and the chai wallah and the punka wallah, did a decent job of showing how the occupying power could be stymied by simple locals! I thought Mr Lah di Dah Gunner Graham did a great job of conveying absolute hatred of Sgt Major Shutup.

What I meant to say was that any child born of British parents in places like India , Kenya for example occupied and dictated to by Britain , did not refer to themselves as Indian , Kenyan but British.
The horrors perpetrated by ‘civilised ‘ Britain to those countrues who had the misfortune to be colonised , will never be fully known.

I used to go to a number of reserve and youth team games in the eighties . There were always a few players who stuck out . Dougie McGuire was one of those , unbelievably skilful but , to me, did not have a lot of football intelligence .
*He was another one that used tae baffle me, St Michael’s Kilwinning FP tae.
Gerry Creaney impressed me with his finishing when I saw him in the youths/reserves. He scored a spectacular goal against Motherwell reserves, he was up against Tom Boyd, a volley from about 25 yards out. Gerry was not everyone‘s cup of tea but he had a great record scoring in big games once he broke through to the first team.
*true but somehow he never fulfilled the promise he initially showed, a bit like Mark Burchill.
