We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies

Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.

As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.

That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.

The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.

Bring it on.  We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

I think Brendan will be a great success, not too sure about big signings but I think there will be 3 very good signings, we don’t need 1 player for the SPL, and I think this team should make the group stages no bother, my hope the 3 signings will keep us in Europe……

By the I think Brendan would not have touched this appointment with a barge pole (even though a Celtic fan) if all the board were offering him were nuts…….BR is no squirrel, and in my opinion any Celtic fan I have met has been over the moon with this appointment, others might look for squirrels, most of us are delighted with a highly rated manager who has the credentials to succeed

Apologies to all the squirrel lovers

Not a big punter but like an interest in the tournaments every 2nd summer.

Heading over to Donegal in summer’98, I managed to get 40’s on Davor Suker as top scorer. I remember asking the girl at bookies on Vicky rd for a price as there was no fixed price and she just wrote 40/1 – Mental, as he was a top player then.

It was ex -celt Paddy Crerand who recognised the significance of the exultant roar at The Ostan Gweedore bar, as goal number 6 hit the net.

    “Someone must have the top-scorer…”

Certainly did and £800 quid remains my biggest win.

    Oh what a nite…

I am in agreement with you, shameful grabbing of crumbs from the “big” clubs table. Embarrassing for Scottish football and plays into the hands of the ” we need a strong Manky Mob ” sympathisers.

FFS, get your own budget in order and live within it.

Couple of disappointments for me don’t know about you guys

Would love to have seen Neil as part of Brendands team. Thought he would have brought that local knowledge in terms of teams, media and aspiration that would have helped Brendan. Maybe he wouldn’t have taken role but would have loved to see it happen

Anthony Stokes. In my mind a great football player often played out of position. Think back to that fabulous dribble against Karagandy (forgive spelling) that led to Forrest goal and the millions it brought to the club and joy for us as fans. That was his capability, we just didn’t exploit it correctly imho

Good luck Neil but you are going to get some real crap from the Edinburgh extablishment

Anthony, buckle downed, head up, and do what you do well, every week

    I’ll be watching!

Nevertheless, i don’t believe that Rangers died, I know they did.

    Based on Scots law.

    That’s not subjective.

It is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact.

How did Rangers manage to walk away from over 90 million pounds of debt?

By not being Rangers, that’s how.

Do Sevco owe all of that money to the 276 creditors?

    Of course they don’t.

So they can’t be Rangers then.

Agreed, I think Bilic has been brilliant on the panel, seemingly before the very first game he textd Payet and seemingly wrote “am not going to wish you good luck because you are the best player on the park anyway” not sure who truthful that is but I quite liked it plus he is a great summariser

  8. The fixtures today: bring it on. I’d prefer that we didn’t postpone games for lucrative friendlies but hey ho I get it. 53k season ticket holders would have been my thinking though.

I hope Kevin McCarra is found safe and well.

You were not alone with Davor Suker (not me unfortunately) but a good few of my pals were on him top goalscorer, I think he was such a big price as Croatia were written off by the bookies as a “wee team” not like them to get it wrong but well done with the win !

  10. Dont pay any attention to the rabble pack when they go on about who we wil sign,or are trying to sign, but the name that came up today,Danny Ings, made me wish.

My tiny hope was then smashed when I read that Liverpool have to pay Burnley 8 million for him.Oh well.

I suppose we had no chance to begin with because some lunatic is reporting that the Huns are in for him,and the bookies have them favourites to land him.

    Just our luck ,eh.

    Guys

If you are going to Limerck for the match stay at Bunratty neR Shannon Airport. Bunratty castle is a good hotel but “Durty Nellies” pub in the village is b r I l l I a n t and some of the old jungle songs in there.

Spent a week there one week end if you know what I mean

  12. I wish some of our number would give up the persecution complex and stop portray Celtic and Celtic supporters as victims – we are not victims – we are TIMS.

Yes we get our fair share of duff decisions – we are big enough and powerful enough to look after ourselves – much of what we do to protect and promote our club goes on behind the scenes.

We made a decision to opt out of a home game – that was factored in – we were not ‘shafted’

I am only interested when the player dons the the hoops on the park, not so SuperMo in his Icelandic jumper wearing the hoops will always haunt me, as you say don’t worry about who others might or most definitely won’t be signing ….. I think Brendan could easily get us through the qualifiers with that squad, but he will definitely want one or two new faces to keep the others on their toes, although I think they will all be trying to impress this season

“Nevertheless, i don’t believe that Rangers died, I know they did.

    Based on Scots law.

    That’s not subjective.

It is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact. ”

It remains a subjective view until it is established in law that this, hitherto immutable law, applies to them too. If it was so fixed, unavoidable and bound to end in failure, why would the same club narrative even have been embarked upon?

Every Scottish rules spokesperson, every media outlet and every high profile mainstream opinion former, has pushed and supported the same club narrative. Not one has yet been embarrassed into admitting they were wrong. On the contrary they have, thus far, successfully, dismissed everyone with the contrary opinion as internet bampots, fringe figures motivated by hatred. No matter how many of us on here know or believe this to be true, it does not make it so. The same club guys expected and still expect to get away with it. On a scale of 1 to 10 how sure are you that they are mistaken? My score roars up and down that scale like an indecisive acrophobic.

I look forward to the day when all of this becomes moot because the same club narrative gets sunk by an official judgement in the courts or from Hampden or Geneva. It has not yet been sunk and that work remains to be done.

Even amongst our own (e.g. The Only an Excuse site recently) , there is a large contingent who neither understand nor care why this is important. In fact, they welcome a chance to re-visit the old enmity. So much so that they will be prepared to see them as whatever they want to be seen as. Such Celtic fans exist- we don’t need to go far to find them. Oor ain mickbhoy on CQN has been telling us this for long enough now. I met fans at Hampden last season who loudly proclaimed in a crowded toilet full of Celtic fans that they “could not wait until they played the Rangers again- it’s been mince without them”. And not one voice was raised in objection or derision.

  17. Craigellachie10 on

Worrying news about Kevin McCarra, a lovely guy. My wife and I met him and Susan briefly in Milan when we were over for the game last year. Couldn’t have been better company and a real celtic man. I really hope he is found safe and well very soon.

  18. gerryfraethebrig

“I think Brendan will be a great success”

Me too and I hope we are both right.

But, at this point in time, nothing has changed apart from our mood. We have won no matches and made no big signings, and yes I know we cannot do so yet, but the point remains. It is a hope and a belief rather than a proven case that Brendan will be a successful manager with us.

Don’t get me wrong, I am happy that our fans are happy but we still need achievement to make us fully happy. After the late-July qualifiers and the SPFL start on 6th August, we can start to make realistic judgments

  19. SFTB

Why was the same club narrative even embarked upon?

I’ll hazard a guess. . . .to sell season tickets, and make Big Hauns et al some money.

Counsel for Charles Green talked of him, in a recent court case, of buying the assets of the former Rangers Football Club, not the club itself.

So, there is clear proof of the same club narrative being a construct, safe in the knowledge that the SMSM and authorities would get behind it in their own self-interest.

And that other clubs wouldn’t protest for similar reasons.

Doesn’t make it true though, I say objectively.

    SFTB

With the new team it’s a generational thing, the young team want them back because they feel they have been deprived of humping them, CQN is pretty different, even Res12, I still think 80% of Celtic fans are unaware of the resolution, by the way the Res12 bhoys & WC have done a great shift, but it’s easy to post on CQN saying I want this and I want that, the flies are back and to give Celtic FC grief is madness, personally I think the board are saying heehaw because then it becomes a Celtic issue and not a shareholder issue and a major point that Dallas pointed out, maybe UEFA will not be best pleased if a UEFA member questions them on this issue, by all means voice your concerns but to make a statement might be cutting Celtics own throats with UEFA ? If anybody think that’s a good point it was that Dallas guy, and if you think it’s a bad point it was definitely that Dallas guy !

ThT photo brings. Back memories for me in terms of Jinky

We lost 3-2 to them in Scottish cup final and on the MondY were due to play Leeds in Jaclie Charlton testimonial. I have a best mate who us Leeds fan who invited me and a met own for a few days around the match

We got on the train Sunday morning from Glasgow Central and the whole club were on the train. Jock, McNeil the lot. Me and mate walked through the carriage getting autographs and Jinky was sitting with Dixie Deans.

Got his autograph and he said ” sit down pal the games no till the mora” Sat down with ma mate open mouth sitting with Jinky Dixie and my mate Yash talking about the cup final and looking forward to Leeds match

Never felt so light on my feet in my life. Jinky said ” don’t worry we’ll put on a show the morra”

Celtic won 4-3 and Jinky and Bobby Lennox were outstanding

Dixie,on the train, also said something that stayed with me

” If Celtic were playing a game on the moon, there would be 30,000 Celtic fans there to Welcome them”

    Thanks for that objective confirmation.

    It is quite simple, really.

It’s just that the repetition of the Big Lie over and over has successfully muddied the waters and/or caused correction fatigue.
