We spoil the league

Illustrating the very high regard the business community and people of Barcelona hold Celtic fans, one of the city’s top restaurants, Cinc Sentis have donated lunch for two towards our annual charity causes.

I am assured by our resident food critic (WDH), Cinc Sentis is a fabulous dining experience.  The auction has just gone live – so get a low bid in early – and ends Sunday.  If you’re heading to Barcelona next week, or anytime thereafter, get your eBay bid in here.

Many thanks to Cinc Sentis and WDH.

Read lots yesterday about the vast majority of people in Scotland missing the ‘Old Firm’ games.  Trying hard to inoculate myself against any “bravado” I really don’t see this.  The edge we used to feel when going into the final minutes of a game needing a goal is no longer there, but I’m really not sure that edge is healthy or necessary.

More than this, I don’t know a single fan from another Premiership club who regrets the liquidation of Rangers, or feels their life is enhanced by the presence of Celtic.  Everyone is aware of the harsh reality – we spoil the league.

We do, of course, sell copy, as did the liquidated lot.

  1. Doc,

    Well said….

At the end of the day….

Michael Kelly is still one of our family.

  3. Rather than praising M. Kelly we should be praising the Scottish anti apartheid movement and in particular Brian Filling who became a consul for the new regime, for his selfless work over 40 years in highlighting the horrific system that was South Africa. sleep the good sleep madiba

    Nelson Mandela R.I.P.

  5. Madiba conquered his enemies with love and compassion. They did not have a clue how to deal with that. Hero of our time! :)

  6. Ryecatcher, it’s fair to be fair, and MK did well as leader of Glasgow Council, not a Glaswegian, but as I saw it.

You have to remember that as a younger man David Cameron was at the very forefront of a movement that actively called for Mandela to be hanged.

Thatcher had branded him as a Communist terrorist and if you recall when she was asked about the calls for his freedom she stated that ” we will never support or deal with terrorists!”

Yet when Mandela did eventually come to London she was front row,

The most extraordinary thing about Mandela was that even before his release he was advocating truth and reconciliation, and often saw and pointed out the good characteristics of his political opponents and those who kept him in jail.

There is a great photograph of him in Glasgow addressing crowds in George Square — something which I always found somewhat funny.

Here was the greatest living revolutionary politician of the 20th Century 6,000 miles from home addressing a mass audience in the very square which was the last place in Britain to witness the Riot Act being formally read and the crowd dispersed by riot troops.

I cannot listen to that demon Cameron anymore. He fills my heart with unhealthy hatred.

  9. I’m gutted to hear about Nelson Mandela tonight.

A hero who could teach many a politician how to fight for their people and their country.

    RIP Madiba

I truly hope South Africa can continue to follow the path he wanted them to go down.

  10. We all talk about heroes, but this man is a true Icon in every meaning of the word. RIP Nelson Mandela. Such a loss.

Quite amazing images on TV of South Africa having a party to celebrate the life of a great man.

Contrast this to the party that took place when the witch passed.

Nelson Mandela spent the equivalent of a life sentence in jail and on his release rebuilt a nation.

Thatcher, ripped the heart out of a nation, doomed thousands of young men to an early grave and should have spent a life sentence in jail.

    A tale of two parties.

    Freedom.

  17. Before the Glasgow demo. Attended by Mandela there was a lot of organising. I was fortunate to have met Dennis Goldberg a South African Communist, who was released I think, about three years before. Mandela . The stories he told were awful for the activists in S.A.in particular the armed wing of the A.N.C. An example of this was the treatment of Joe Slovo, whose wife was murdered by the S.A. Secret Service second only to the Israeli Mossad .

  18. Hate these pre-prepared media pieces. David Steele speaking about the great man a month ago before he died about his death. Wrong .IMO.
