We stand alone

1204

If you live long enough you get to hear or read just about everything. Today some in the old media are telling us Celtic and Rangers (sic) are both chasing a soon-to-be out of contract Manchester United player. The way it used to work is an agent would fly into Glasgow to see Celtic or Rangers, and make sure the other club had an option on the player their rivals were pursuing.

Anyone who thinks Newco can rival Celtic for a footballer had better consult their medication. The rules have all changed, in Glasgow, we stand alone.

Final shout for the ITUC’s 22nd minute Fifa protest tomorrow.

Today’s CQteN raffle winner, of a signed Celtic strip, is John McDonald, from table 36. If it’s the John McDonald I’ve just emailed, congratulations… If not, we’ll find you.

Today is World Down Syndrome Day. For too long those with Down’ have been stigmatised, shown a lack of human respect, or worse. The ‘does he take sugar’ days were not so long ago. World Down Syndrome Day is a about raising awareness and changing our perceptions.

Have to say I’m enjoying the Aberdeen fans’ ‘Peter Pawlett Baby’ campaign. Human League’s ‘Don’t you want me baby’ has flown up the charts on the back of delirious Aberdeen fans, celebrating their position as one of Scotland’s top two. Crazy stuff like this is how football clubs grow.

For all those who have supported Marys’ Meals over recent weeks and months, here’s a cheery video from them, with a little help from Pharrell Williams.

Seville – The Celtic Movement is another cheery wee thing.

“Somewhere around 5am and Glasgow airport is only open for Seville flights and is a sea of green and white. I’ve 80 Euros, my passport, boarding pass and a ticket in my shorts, Celtic top on, no baggage of any description. The happiest queue of all time has formed.”

Isn’t the world of geo-politics a fine place for ethics to flourish? We are backing the Taliban in Syria and fighting them in Afghanistan. Can we not go back to our old Cold War outsourcing practices and just get Syria to fight Afghanistan and we can supply both sides with our deadly toys

Excuse my ignorance but what is the truth that hurts with regards Keevins?

    _____________________________________________________________

HK told everybody who read his column one day last summer that, Celtic had agreed to go over to Ireland to play in a tribute match for Legend – Sean Fallon.

Celtic then – dropped – Sean Fallon’s do like a bag of rubbish, preffering instead to hawk the good ship Celtic across the pond to America to play in friendly v’s Joses RM for £1 mill. Celtic didn’t like the fact that, HK reported this story which showed the PLC-board and PL etc in a bad light. A truthful light I thought.

HK then reported from CP for the last time at a pre-season friendly v’s Inter in a ‘ghost’ stadium which led HK to opine that – PL might find himself in trouble with his superiors for, voting the huns out the league as opposed to keeping them , in the league under the conditions that – the huns were hit by a 25 point penalty every season until the £140 mill was paid, in instalments every season at probably – £5 – £10 mill ?

With the benefit of hindsight…HK was correct. imho

Just look at the crowds at CP these days compared to having the huns in the at. no more than punch-bag material.

The huns have died – apparently…yet CP is ghost like.

  17. Frank Ryan's Whiskey on

    The lost tribe

Only a handful of native Tasmanians escaped being slaughtered by the English in the 19th century. Now a bitter row has broken out between the many people – some black, some white – who claim to be their descendants. Acclaimed author Richard Flanagan asks what it really means to be an Aborigine

In Tasmania tension has steadily built over a single question to which it may be presumed there is a very simple answer: who is an Aborigine? On an island of ironies, where leading Aboriginal activists can have fair skin and blue eyes, the question becomes daily more perplexing. Even to Tasmanian Aborigines, some of whom are predicting bloodshed, the answer is divisive. To the rest of the world it is merely baffling, for Tasmania is to this day is often cited as the site of the only successful genocide in history.

On that strange, sorry island so far away, the antipode of the antipodes, it was said that a race of indigenous people had, within 80 years of the English invasion, disappeared from the face of the earth as surely as the dodo. Glosses on their fate varied, but no doubt was had as to the fate itself. With the death of Trugannini in 1876, the last of the Tasmanians was gone.

That reminds me of the commonly told story about the building of the bridge accross the bay here in Rio.

Three companies tendered to the Rio Cooncil for the job – one Japanese. One American and a local outfit.

When the tenders were opened, they opened the Japanese one first. It said:

“Our lump sum price (with no exclusions, or add-ons) to do this work is 3billion US dollars. We will use all Japanese steel and latest technology and employ local labour, wherever possible.

Next was the American offer it said “Using only the finest American materials, know how and expertiese we will do this job for 6 billion USD.

Last was the local company “We will do this job for 9 billion dollars. 3 billion for you. 3 billion for me and we’ll hire the Japanese! .

…..sadly that’s not so wide of the mark, for how it really is.
