We stand alone

1204

If you live long enough you get to hear or read just about everything. Today some in the old media are telling us Celtic and Rangers (sic) are both chasing a soon-to-be out of contract Manchester United player. The way it used to work is an agent would fly into Glasgow to see Celtic or Rangers, and make sure the other club had an option on the player their rivals were pursuing.

Anyone who thinks Newco can rival Celtic for a footballer had better consult their medication. The rules have all changed, in Glasgow, we stand alone.

Final shout for the ITUC’s 22nd minute Fifa protest tomorrow.

Today’s CQteN raffle winner, of a signed Celtic strip, is John McDonald, from table 36. If it’s the John McDonald I’ve just emailed, congratulations… If not, we’ll find you.

Today is World Down Syndrome Day. For too long those with Down’ have been stigmatised, shown a lack of human respect, or worse. The ‘does he take sugar’ days were not so long ago. World Down Syndrome Day is a about raising awareness and changing our perceptions.

Have to say I’m enjoying the Aberdeen fans’ ‘Peter Pawlett Baby’ campaign. Human League’s ‘Don’t you want me baby’ has flown up the charts on the back of delirious Aberdeen fans, celebrating their position as one of Scotland’s top two. Crazy stuff like this is how football clubs grow.

For all those who have supported Marys’ Meals over recent weeks and months, here’s a cheery video from them, with a little help from Pharrell Williams.

Seville – The Celtic Movement is another cheery wee thing.

“Somewhere around 5am and Glasgow airport is only open for Seville flights and is a sea of green and white. I’ve 80 Euros, my passport, boarding pass and a ticket in my shorts, Celtic top on, no baggage of any description. The happiest queue of all time has formed.”

  1. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

Not been on much this week and after the high of CQteN I decided to do mostly lurking for a few days.

Had such a wonderful evening and as many of you know it is not often I get to Paradise these days so to be at such a great event it took a while to get back into the swing of posting. A wee break was required. met some cracking people and it was great to put some faces to names. It felt like I had known people for years and to finally meet them I got a few details regarding them mixed up. Reading CQN while meeting CQNers would make life easier!

Had some thoughts this week on the Sevco/Rangers situation. For the avoidance of confusion I will call them Newco and Oldco. These are my terms for the purpose of this point. They have been debated at length in the past but I feel it is easier to get my point across.

After decades of honest mistake style cheating and unprovable events off the pitch in favour of Oldco they finally fell on their own sword a few years ago much to our delight. The bragging rights were now forever in our favour. Right?

Wrong! Newco were hastily launched. Pushed through the league set up and the powers within Scottish football even had the audacity to pass the buck to the clubs about whether they should enter the top league in Scotland. I will not go into the details because we are well versed but a team that had cheated every team they had played in the country financially for at least 2 decades were asking to be put back into the top league in Scotland. They didn’t even pass the critera to enter the lowest league but werte granted entry anyway.

Our governing body was unfit for purpose and the clubs should have then and there told them so and attempted to over throw them.

The SPL/SFL were amalgamated. Problem solved? Right?

Wrong! The SFA are still there in it’s ugly form. The CEO is not fit for purpose and was involved with the Oldco. He must be the only administrator in world football at the level he holds who has overseen the financial disasters of two football clubs within their remit and still be in a lofty position. He has claimed and and counter claimed he didn;t know things were happening and then documents were produced that confirmed he lied!

The clubs have obviously made a point of showing not only their unhappiness with this situation

The referee standards in this country have never been lower. Is there a plan in place? The Celtic manager was lied to and then when the truth was unveiled Celtic were somehow to blame. The only time I have ever heard of referees being applauded leaving football pitches at Scottish league matches is the weekend they flew foreign referees in to officiate at games during the referee strike what does that tell you? Our referees in the main are not cheats they are incompetent. The honest mistakes referees do make benfit one football club and always will. Fans of other teams are now telling me that they can see the honest mistakes that Newco are getting. People are starting to wise up. Their absence has done things to people in many ways. There has been a ‘wait a minute’ moment when other fans of Scottish teams have seen the penny drop.

Did the clubs complain and unite and give a vote of no confidence in referee standards? No.

Over the past few days and the high of CQteN for me there is a period of reflection about the club and where we are going, where we have been and where we are. There is no doubt we are in a healthy place. It’s a wonderful period of success for Celtic and yes it could be better but it hasn’t been without a few knocks along the way.

We have lost games. I have never been down about that. We will always lose games and our history is littered with freak results after incredible highs and also bad result after bad result through periods of lows. I always listened to Gordon Strachan talk about learning more through defeat sometimes than winning. It’s about what you learn from that defeat as a group and take forward into the next game/season/etc. I think there is plenty to take forward on the pitch for next season both domestically and in Europe and I’m sure Neil, his coaching team, the board and the players are doing that everyday with next season in mind. I believe they have secured a cracking wee striker in Leigh Griffiths who has already shaken our forward line up.

What have we learned regarding Newco though?

We have learned that the clubs in Scotland will not stand together and take them on. Anyone who does break ranks is bullied by the media and villified and terrorised by the support from Ibrox through social media and forums.

Many of us will have seen the honest mistakes on TV taking affect in their games already. If they need a decision 9 out of 10 they will get it. They engage a fear factor that makes it hard to give match changing decisions against them.

What have we learned? Nothing much has changed.

We have some bragging rights. There is no way I will ever recognise this new club as the old club. EVER.

What we do know is that they will stop at nothing to win. They are shameless. They used to hide behind dignity. It was their call sign. That has been blown away. Now they are completely shameless in their quest to get where they want and win what they want.

What was interesting me is why the clubs below Celtic were not sounding off their unhappiness about the return to prominence through both financial cheating as oldco, their remergence as newco (disguised as oldco), the honest mistakes that aid them in their moment of need and their bullying of all opposition through media intimidation via Super Salary to gain any sliver of advantage in a contest.

It hit me this week why this is not happening. In the last few years a few clubs have won trophies some for the first time in decades. In some cases our own inability to beat inferior opposition was to blame in others we were victims of honest mistakes. Hearts being the biggest examples of two honest mistakes in minutes to secure a cup semi final win at Hampden.

Aberdeen managed to take 40k fans to Paradise this weekend. They won their first trophy in 16 years. Aberdeen are a giant in the Scottish game. We don;t have many giants but Aberdeen are certainly one of them. They have also been one of the most outspoken fan groups and clubs against Oldco & Newco. How do you silence their fans for a while? let them have some success. While they are revelling in their current glory their fans are more focussed on getting an 80’s classic to No1 than focussing on a club who will probably steal their manager and half their team in a years time. It is Aberdeen fans perogative to enjoy their success and by doing so they have brought a positive focus to the Scottish game in Britain and possibly Europe with their Tifo and their surge up the charts with an 80’s classic (now where did they get those ideas?).

Dundee United who should be applauded for their stance on standing up to Oldco & Newco are now embroiled in a battle with Newco. The wagons have been circled and the media brain washing has begun. keep telling people a lie or a story you want them to believe in time they will believe it. This is happening with every story that surfaces regarding Newco.

Newco are on their way to the top flight. They have no money we all know that. They will benefit from honest mistakes there is no doubt of that. They will have a fan base but will allow them to compete with their peers minus Celtic. They only have to beat the rest to get some European revenue. The rest in my opinion have failed their fans. They have not stood up for their clubs. In 10-15 years the same supporters will realise they were not smart or strong enough to take on the Newco because they will be moaning about dominance of two clubs in Glasgow. Celtic have remained neutral in all this. We could not be seen as the leaders it had to be a consortium of other clubs that we could have joined at a later stage. A Celtic v ‘Rangers’ Sevco battle off the pitch would have been gold to the media and would have played into the victim brigade that seem to now reside at Ibrox.

I keep hearing the words for the good of the game being discussed in the media. I wish they would just be honest and say what they really mean. It is for the good of one club and the first hurdle is almost complete getting them into the top league in Scotland. Remember this when your friends and work mates who support clubs winning trophies in this period are moaning in the future that they never win anything and the football in Scotland is designed around two clubs. It has been proven that with Celtic at the top there is a chance to win trophies. That is a proven fact. When the benefactors of honest mistakes return to a stronger footing the songs of the 80’s will be a more distant memory and so will their days parading trophies. I hope the other clubs in Scotland will not regret their chance to eridicate the game of an uneven playing field in favour of one club. Either the whole thing has been played out in front of ours eyes or I have way too much time to think on my hands and I’m going aff my heid!

How about the Republic of Ireland denying Jewish refugees asylum from the holocaust – sending them back to the gas chambers- does that count as ‘rotten to the core?

    ===

Or how about how the good old British knew that the ‘holocaust’ was happening due to their capture of the enigma machine and how they kept the fact that they knew that the Nazis were slaughtering Jewish and other sections of the populations of occupied countries a secret in order to stop the Germans from suspecting their codes had been compromised. How many people were sent to the Gas chambers because of this?
