We want a win, but let’s not kid ourselves

964

We are almost week on from Morton (our only mustn’t lose game in March) but there will be a business-like atmosphere around Lennoxtown today as the team prepare to go to Ibrox, scene of three consecutive wins since Newco were promoted to top flight football.  Brendan and his players are all too aware of the big talk coming from Murray Park.  If ever they needed motivation, they didn’t need to look far.

Fans of either colour, who have been around long enough, will recognise the occasion, but this is not the way you and I used to feel about going to Ibrox.  Back in the old days I preferred to go there as slight underdogs, which was often as good as it got for Celtic fans.  Now, we travel to every ground in the country as strong favourites, no matter what our form.  This is nothing like it was in the pre-liquidation years.

I want to win, of course, but I would have been devastated if we’d lost to Morton.  Sunday’s game cannot reach me the same way.  This is a step on the road to what will hopefully be a treble, don’t pretend it is about winning the league, it’s just not.

****CQN Last Man Standing 10 – Kicks off tonight with a 7pm deadline for entries. No more sleeps!!!!****

  1. catman,

    how do you do it,

an informer inside auchenhoowie as well ?

    ——————–

a wee bit of the lurgy saw me up early this morning and nestled in front of the tv rewatching our last 5 games (zint away apart). something sticks out, the number of times mousaa is making runs into the box in the inside left channel, getting on the end of things, controlling the ball most times, laying it off often, and several on target headers, 3 leading to goals.

also to get on the end of these the crosses are coming from the right hand side of the box, with balls from james , tom, and a few others.

also noticeable is the form of Moussa, Keiran, Scott, Ncham. with honerable mentions for rogic, and edward.

we are going to win tomorrow.

because we are better than them.

  2. oh, and honourable mention for my erstwhile escaped goat.

James Forrest, wonderful contributions over the term

I was thinking in terms of playing a team who are not a good as we are. If our attitude is right we will win. We can’t allow the media hype to make us think we are playing Bayern Munich.

Agree about the environment – if we take the lead it could work against them. Their expectations have been driven to crazy “Levels”.

Not long back from an uplifting beautiful funeral service of my uncle, his wife is still with us and is my dad’s last sibling (youngest sister) they had been married for 63years, parish priest supported by two other priests and chapel was mobbed with service transmitted live to relatives in Donegal, anyhow my aunt & uncle always attended 12am Sunday mass unless Celtic were at lunchtime kickoff then they would be st 10am, he and many others young and old would/will treat the Sevs as Rangers (same flies for sure) anyhow I think agree or disagree Celtic mean many things to us all, and Celtic should always be enjoyed, the cheats cheated in my opinion we should never let them hinder our enjoyment of our team

No predictions from me apart fae Sinky to start and the good ghuys to win :-)

The reason the SFA can’t afford VAR is because Stewart Regan has left the SFA skint.

They have no dough. Can’t afford rent, lost income, no progression in playing terms at club level or internationally etc.

Many see Regan as a cheat or at least as an enabling agent for cheats. He was far more than that. He was a dunderheid: An ineffective CEO at every level with no administrative abilities, personal charm, vision of the future or sufficient managerial nous to make a positive difference to the organisation he was in charge of.

He had been trying to get another job for months and months before being sacked …. but couldn’t.

  7. BRTH

His COO McKinlay has got the job as CEO of Scottish Golf on 300k a year, incredible that an organisation with the problems Scottish Golf has , can pay a salary like this paid for by ordinary club memebers by their subs to Scottish Golf, his interview must have been interesting.

  8. Even allowing for injuries to our higher profile players, their replacements should have enough to win the game.

Exception to that is De Vries, who I have no confidence in,despite a few good saves in past games.

For that reason I think Craig Gordon may pop up,although all the talk is Armstrong and Boyata.

  9. JMCCORMICK on 10TH MARCH 2018 12:15 PM

After the game tomorrow I will return home and my Lenten pledge to stay off the booze will be hard to stick to if we scupper the MSM bandwagon.

    ______________________________________________

Your Lenten fast is 40 days; Lent did not officially start until the First Sunday of `lent so the days from Ash Wednesday to the Saturday were not actually part of Lent.

If you observed your fast for those days, you have 4 days between the First Sunday of lent and Easter Saturday in which you can break your Lenten Fast and still observe the 40 day Lenten Fast. This is not made up; check with you PP.

Many people use one of these to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. It would also be acceptable, IMHO, to use another to observe Hun Skelping Day tomorrow.

MacKInlay will have an impressive CV. Ex McLay Murray and Spens, Clydesdale Bank and SFA so in terms of fitting the mould of a qualified sports administrator with professional and institutional experience he fits the bill.

That salary is indeed a big one and Golf is in need of some innovation and modern thinking to get the kids involved.

Kevin McQuillan, formerly of Celtic PLC, is now the marketing director for the R&A.

It will be interesting to see whether Andrew McKinlay gets an honerable mention in the Compliance oFficer’s review.

I am told that in the past he has privately expressed a view which I could not disagree with re events of 2011/12, and it was he who was in direct correspondence with the Res 12 lawyers.

This is to support my daughter Laura, who in turn is supporting a Charity “Let Us Shine” a girls school in the middle of Ghana.

This school is sponsored by St Mary’s Bannockburn ( where Laura teaches) St Margaret’s Cowie & Our Lady’s Raploch ( giving the school it’s new name ) plus our local churches.

Laura will Fly to Ghana, travel 10hrs on a bus, then a further 2 hours to get to this school, and be only the 2nd fully qualified teacher to teach the girls, some of whom travel 4 hrs walk to get to the school for both education and a feed.

Laura ( & St Mary’s ) have arranged a race night on 23rd March at 7.30 – tickets £5, and would grateful if any CQN’rs could join CRC and I at this

Alternatively win one of the above prizes through sponsoring a jockey in one of the races for £5.

    Contact – laurahmccabe@icloud.com

Thanks. I feel a bit better for getting things of my chest and you have all been polite and no one called me a hun.

Thank you all for that. I feel welcome so will continue to post.

It’s obvious my views go against the grain on here.

However Corkcelt is right, I must leave it alone. I’m not going to kev jungle it and spout it everyday.

I might be guilty of over egging the pudding I admit.

We shall continue to support good causes together and I’m proud how this blog rallies not just to their own but whatever worthy cause. I tip my hat to each and every one of you.

    BRTH,

I’m no surprised you don’t think there’s as much overt sectarian racism in Scotland for a couple of reasons, first being as you admit, you don’t recognise it when its abusing you and second being, the people in your circle of contacts are a bit better educated and know the risks involved with displaying overt sectarian racism, that does not equate with not being a sectarian racist bigot, just more careful about the right company to let the guard down.

  20. I’m feeling really confident about the game tomorrow. I think Dembele is getting back to top form. I think we will start with Boyata. If we are fully committed and keep our discipline, we will win.

After watching the Hibs game last night, I’ve now finally concluded that McGinn is good enough for us. He’d also be a signing that would be content to be here for a long time.

McTominay looks a player / well done to the Scottish grandpa

*the grampa allegedly lives in Helensburgh, the only player of note that they have supplied in my lifetime (I don’t include huns that lived there) was Dominic (Nicky) Sharkey St Pats Dumbarton FP who was Brian Clough’s understudy at Sunderland, ironically it was Nicky’s back up John (Solly) O’Hare (another St Pat’s FP) that Cloughie took tae Derby when he became manager, worked out well for Solly as he won 2 Big Cup medals.

  22. John McGinn impressed me he passes the ball long and short very well, has power is direct and can shoot, Dylan and Scott also played well for Hibs , good to see Levein having his words stuffed down his throat.

  23. BROGAN ROGAN TREVINO AND HOGAN on 10TH MARCH 2018 11:57 AM

Another great posting, was going tae stay away fae the blog today as even though I don’t get the angst when playing sevco that I did with deidco I still have that wee niggly feeling right now, so here’s a couple of my own thoughts on your great comments:

“Let me start by saying that I like Scotland. I like the majority of the people I come into contact with irrespective of what team they support, what sport they follow, what faith the practice or if they practice none at all.”

*So do I, I did a bit of touring up the Highlands late summer and loved the place and people, was parking in a pay and display lot in Inverness and while looking for the machine a wee man ran across the road tae tell me that the parking attendants frequent this area a lot, try that over here, also I was in the company of a “bluenose” who told me that even though I had been out of the place 40+ years I was still a wee Fenian, this was not said in a derogatory manner either just a reflection of still being a Celtic supporter, this same wee man was his best friends best man many years before at St Kessogs Balloch.

“I didn’t even recognise it as anti Catholic sectarianism until it was pointed out by the season ticket holding, Rangers shareholder grandson of David Hope, the former chairman of Rangers FC Ltd, who was only chairman for 17 minutes until someone else remembered that his dead wife had been a catholic!”

*I remember that well, davie hope had masterminded the deidco pools which was instrumental in the redevelopment of the ground especially after the disaster. When john lawrence (whose own granddaughter was a boarder at Notre Dame Convent School in Dumbarton) decided tae step down he nominated hope as his successor, this lasted as you say intae the opening minutes of their agm where it was shouted down, let’s not forget that shareholders then were not the tramps that marched our streets in the summer but tramps in collar and ties that sat in boardrooms. If my memory serves me well his wife had been dead many years and he had thrown himself intae the deid team as a way of compensating for his loss, it seems he was left a broken man.

“His father won league medals with both Rangers and Everton but he too says he would never associate himself or meet with people who express the type of bigoted view or preference that is espoused from the Ibrox stands.”

*has to be tory gillick, I worked with a wee bloke over here for a company that is very prominent in the UK who due tae his Irish Catholic sounding name and being well versed in the Celtic that I took tae be a Tim that is until he told me that when his Celtic daft da returned fae the war he was surprised tae find that his lad was a ball boy at hades.

Later on he got a few games with the reserves and spoke well of gillick who would tell him tae do all the running but when he wanted the ball to give it to him.

Must have liked me as he would also tell me little stories like being called intae the boardroom and asked what school he went tae, when he replied Woodside then that was ok, he also told me that a very popular manager, one who hired me BTW, would never get the CEO job as he didnae belong tae the “right club”, that went tae a former larkhall native.
