We want a win, but let’s not kid ourselves

964

We are almost week on from Morton (our only mustn’t lose game in March) but there will be a business-like atmosphere around Lennoxtown today as the team prepare to go to Ibrox, scene of three consecutive wins since Newco were promoted to top flight football.  Brendan and his players are all too aware of the big talk coming from Murray Park.  If ever they needed motivation, they didn’t need to look far.

Fans of either colour, who have been around long enough, will recognise the occasion, but this is not the way you and I used to feel about going to Ibrox.  Back in the old days I preferred to go there as slight underdogs, which was often as good as it got for Celtic fans.  Now, we travel to every ground in the country as strong favourites, no matter what our form.  This is nothing like it was in the pre-liquidation years.

I want to win, of course, but I would have been devastated if we’d lost to Morton.  Sunday’s game cannot reach me the same way.  This is a step on the road to what will hopefully be a treble, don’t pretend it is about winning the league, it’s just not.

  1. BRTH I think we’ll go with the fools category for now.

I’m back on my feet now (literally) recovering from torn medial ligaments so I’ll manage to get to my first game in over a month against Dundee!

I remember going to Easterhouse to play a Boys Guild game and we went by train. Our warm up was a run from the train station to the pitch, closely followed by marauding locals. The warm down was similar – a run from the park to the rain station pursued by mair locals!

Our Irish supporters never fail to astonish me. Their level of commitment is astonishing. I thank my lucky stars that I have never had to travel far to watch Celtic playing at home. I remember about 8 years ago my son and I were flying home from Belfast to Glasgow on a Wednesday, late afternoon. Celtic were playing Hamilton at Parkhead in the evening. As we were boarding the plane, there was a ghuys in front of us wearing a jacket with a badge indicating he was a member of Portadown CSC. I think the fixture was relatively meaningless but he was there. Generally, I love to hear the Irish accents around the stadium. I think it is a sign that we are still connected with our roots and it would be a sad, sad day if it ever came to an end. I was at a recent game and as I was walking up to the ground from Dalmarnock station, there was a group of five young Japanese lhads with their tops and scarves having a leisurely stroll in front of me indulging in the craic amongst themselves. Now who could ever have imagined that 20 years ago? It was great for someone of my age to see. We are a club open to all, based in Glasgow but with a worldwide support of every creed and colour.

  10. Hopefully it’ll be third time lucky for Brendan vs the seemingly clueless Murty!

Hopefully the Celtic support play it cute, going to, during, and after Sunday’s game, especially with those dark clothed Union Bears on the prowl, maybe there’ll be rumors on twitter about a possible hun pitch invasion if, I stress, if, Celtic reach 3-0, there might be an attempt at half time to, drop a message into Brendan’s ear about, possible hun civil unrest, if Celtic get to 3-0, like the wee trick that worked for them when RD was our manager.

I’m guessing that, Brendan’s ballsy media conference today, especially when Brendan has yet to address the Johnny Hayes mauling, to date, might be designed to steer our thoughts away from, “possible” suspicions about, half time interference on Sunday!

    Hmmmmmmm.

If the Celtic support can be bought for, £49, what are the chances of a word in the managers ear bearing fruit ?

    Anywye,…..guid luck. HH

Now to me that’s a post. But hand on heart, I’m sorry i let each and every one of you down by,,,

Not bringing Glasgow Celtic to my next generation,

Not advertising my love of that club everywhere I go.

    Not attending CSCs anymore.

    I made a choice.

I would rather die than have my wee one fionnualas ears “assaulted” by we wanna wallow in your fenian blood and stab your family songs.

I swore she will never said to me ” daddy what does go home mean?”

You’ve no idea how much It hurts.

One of the 5 or so games I’ve seen since my walk away around the time stuart Armstrong signed ( something happened around then that tipped my hand I forget now what it was) was Manchester city away in the champs league,,im sure you watched it. I justified watching that game cause it wasn’t Scottish football.

Don’t know if you remember the game or or how it panned out, but we were amazing,, absolutely amazing against the might of quatar.

Can you believe with all that money and that special manager ( he is, I tip my hat his football philosophy is genius and truly what I believe in) they couldn’t beat us!!!!!!!

My heart soared that afternoon, it truly did.

    But what can i do?

    Lose my self respect?

If she sees me doing it then she will also right?

Not an option here, over my dead body will she learn how much those scum ( and they effinn are) wish to treat her like some subhuman species thats inferior and shouldn’t be breathing.

I feel I’ve been p!aced in the position that I can commit to something impure, that will lead to emotional hurt and possibly harm to my kin should she ever visit, and which fan doesn’t at some stage,,,

Or raise her in a cleaner environment free from the knowledge that by the way most of that county hates everything about you.

If anyone in a posiion of influence or power reads this ,,p67,,pl, dd,,anyone for goodness sake please help because while I’m a strong Irish boy that will take this pain ,,future generations and innocent parties should not, ever , EVER, feel like this.

No one will agree with me but blog, each and every one of you, please think about what you getting your kids hooked on. Just think. That’s all I ask. I would never ever tell anyone on here what to do and I would fight until my dying breath against those that would on each and every one of your behalves but please please just take a second to think about what we are bringing our little hopes and dreams into.

On the day of the last bucket collection for the foundation winter appeal, I found myself talking to a father and son from Belfast around 1:30pm in Janefield Street.

The Old Man had been on the night shift finishing about 3:00am before going home for an hour’s kip and then leaving the house at 4:00am to meet with his local CSC at 5:00am for the bus to Celtic Park.

By the time they got home after the game he estimated that it would be 11:00pm at least.

I am not always sure that Celtic appreciate the effort that many Irish fans go to just to follow the club.

Mind you, the next couple I spoke to on that same day had come from Romania!!

  14. March 1981

    Tuesday 10th

It has been a fairly normal day in my present circumstances. My weight is 59. 3 kgs. and I have no medical problems. I have seen some birthday greetings from relatives and friends in yesterday’s paper which I got today. Also I received a bag of toiletries today.

There is no priest in tonight, but the chief medical officer dropped in, took my pulse, and left. I suppose that makes him feel pretty important.

From what I have read in the newspapers I am becoming increasingly worried and wary of the fact that there could quite well be an attempt at a later date to pull the carpet from under our feet and undermine us — if not defeat this hunger-strike — with the concession bid in the form of ‘our own clothes as a right’.

This, of course, would solve nothing. But if allowed birth could, with the voice of the Catholic hierarchy, seriously damage our position. It is my opinion that under no circumstances do they wish to see the prisoners gain political status, or facilities that resemble, or afford us with the contents of, political status.

The reasons for this are many and varied, primarily motivated by the wish to see the revolutionary struggle of the people brought to an end. The criminalisation of Republican prisoners would help to furnish this end.

It is the declared wish of these people to see humane and better conditions in these Blocks. But the issue at stake is not ‘humanitarian’, nor about better or improved living conditions. It is purely political and only a political solution will solve it. This in no way makes us prisoners elite nor do we (nor have we at any time) purport to be elite.

We wish to be treated ‘not as ordinary prisoners’ for we are not criminals. We admit no crime unless, that is, the love of one’s people and country is a crime.

Would Englishmen allow Germans to occupy their nation or Frenchmen allow Dutchmen to do likewise? We Republican prisoners understand better than anyone the plight of all prisoners who are deprived of their liberty. We do not deny ordinary prisoners the benefit of anything that we gain that may improve and make easier their plight. Indeed, in the past, all prisoners have gained from the resistance of Republican jail struggles.

I recall the Fenians and Tom Clarke, who indeed were most instrumental in highlighting by their unflinching resistance the ‘terrible silent system’ in the Victorian period in English prisons. In every decade there has been ample evidence of such gains to all prisoners due to Republican prisoners’ resistance.

Unfortunately, the years, the decades, and centuries, have not seen an end to Republican resistance in English hell-holes, because the struggle in the prisons goes hand-in-hand with the continuous freedom struggle in Ireland. Many Irishmen have given their lives in pursuit of this freedom and I know that more will, myself included, until such times as that freedom is achieved.

I am still awaiting some sort of move from my cell to an empty wing and total isolation. The last strikers were ten days in the wings with the boys, before they were moved. But then they were on the no-wash protest and in filthy cells. My cell is far from clean but tolerable. The water is always cold. I can’t risk the chance of cold or ‘flu. It is six days since I’ve had a bath, perhaps longer. No matter.

Tomorrow is the eleventh day and there is a long way to go. Someone should write a poem of the tribulations of a hunger-striker. I would like to, but how could I finish it.

Caithfidh mé a dul mar tá tuirseach ag eirí ormsa.

I understand your feelings but I decided to come to it from the opposite side. Living in and around Glasgow we live daily with underhand tactics to demean us as a faith and a football club( I make these separate as Feltic fans are not all catholic)

My daughter has been taught to stand up for her beliefs and never bow down to their supremist behaviour, she proudly stands up for her faith and football and continues to attend every home match and the occasional away fixture. This I do despite my sustain for the people running CPLC and my ongoing sT bhoycott. Why would I deprive my daughter of the joys of being a Tim?

Fair enjoying the ‘debate’ on the blog these last couple of days and there have been some great wordsmiths.

The length of time you have been a supporter does not you are a better one than someone who has less ‘time served’ as it most cases it’s an age thing.

It matters not what path you took only that you have arrived.

Most, like me would be ‘father taken’,whilst others like Old Tim67 saw Celtic against their family’s team and changed allegiance.

As for the cheating? Well we all thought pre 2012, pre Farry, pre Referees’ strike that we were being cheated. The difference now? We know! BUT SO DO THEY!!!!!!

Never sat at the back in my life but now I give them FACTS. What’s not to like?

I support Celtic not the Board,I go to see Celtic not the Board. All complaints about what the Board are doing/not doing about the BTC,the WTC the DOS, are being aimed at the wrong outfit.

WHAT ARE HMRC DOING ought to be the question!

Don’t fill in your tax return by the due date they will fine you £100 PER DAY! Roughcast your wee rented flat and they want an explanation before they don’t tax you.

Do them out of £s millions and if you are or have been a ‘Rangers man’ (whatever that bloody means ) and they don’t bother their ass! They are the ones who should be getting the flack.

And don’t forget Plod and the City of London Police. They are worse.

Looking forward to playing Sevco tomorrow and don’t forget to tell everyone of them you speak to that….. ‘You’re no’ Rangers anymair’ and ‘Your teams deid’ c. LG.

  25. For the first since I can’t remember when, I won’t be watching the game with my best mate and my sons. I got a better offer.

A friend and ex-colleague who I haven’t seen for too many years invited me to his place in the east of the country where he and a few mates will be gathering to watch. He was diagnosed with MND more than two years ago. He spent most of last year making memories with his wife travelling the world.

I don’t know how restricted he is now, his upper body was visibly deteriorating in pictures he posted on Facebook on their travels. His legs were still in good working order. Maybe they won’t be now.

He went to Seville without a ticket. I met up with and had a few beers before I headed off to the game. He still has the away top I gave him for that occasion.

A mighty fine footballer he was too. Athletic with a canon ball shot which I was often on the receiving end of when we played 5s. And great he extent I always address him with an added “o” to his name in honour of the Brazillian “o” brothers.

Today I’m heading off to the Celtic superstore to pick him up a wee gift. But what to get? Perhaps a DVD of the invincibles or the Seville story. A Celtic top with Tierney’s number signifying the strength of both of them.

He still retains a razor sharp wit, especially when engaging with his “sevconian friends”. Two of whom will be there tomorrow.

A victory for the hoops would be a bonus.
