We want a win, but let’s not kid ourselves

964

We are almost week on from Morton (our only mustn’t lose game in March) but there will be a business-like atmosphere around Lennoxtown today as the team prepare to go to Ibrox, scene of three consecutive wins since Newco were promoted to top flight football.  Brendan and his players are all too aware of the big talk coming from Murray Park.  If ever they needed motivation, they didn’t need to look far.

Fans of either colour, who have been around long enough, will recognise the occasion, but this is not the way you and I used to feel about going to Ibrox.  Back in the old days I preferred to go there as slight underdogs, which was often as good as it got for Celtic fans.  Now, we travel to every ground in the country as strong favourites, no matter what our form.  This is nothing like it was in the pre-liquidation years.

I want to win, of course, but I would have been devastated if we’d lost to Morton.  Sunday’s game cannot reach me the same way.  This is a step on the road to what will hopefully be a treble, don’t pretend it is about winning the league, it’s just not.

I was too late to register for Crufts this year.

But, next year, just stand back and watch.

Here we go, ten in a row. Here we go, ten in a row.

  2. Hi Mike

We have our troubles with Masons but it looks like you have your own trouble with an impudent pup. Should you have adopted a Bengal Tiger Cub instead?

  3. Mahe, keep posting. Debate needs differing opinions otherwise it’s a monologue or just rhetoric.

    Magical.

  7. Greenbingley you were definitely in the posh seats.

I was in the cheap seats in Invercanny. Usually went to Mass at St Pius but did like a wee diversion to St Lawrences.

TTT there were houses looking straight onto the pitch at St Sixtus.

You have been a breath of fresh air the past few days, along with Bigbhoy your posts have been well worth the read, throw in Brogan as ever of course, the blog has been as good as it ever was and very little whinging and bitching which is a major bonus.

No that i agree with what you all say mind you, but they are well worth the reading, posts from the heart, passion that I hope our players take on to the park on sunday agin the cheating hun scum.

We do disagree on that.imo The trunk and root of the Celtic family is the hopes and dreams and our charitable anti oppression nature each and everyone of us holds in their heart. The support for the football club is merely a manifestation of those hopes . If it wasn’t there those hopes and dreams would manifest onto a different form . Perhaps a boxing club or a GAA team or rugby or whatever.

If the football side of the Celtic family happen to be thrown out Glasgow then Celtic, the Celtic family, is dead?

    Nah, no way.

    It moves somewhere else, simples.

Whether you have the same emotional attachment to this new branch of the family might be a better question.

But make no mistake if the same fans show up and transfer their hopes and dreams to the new branch then it’s part of the family whether you like it or not.

It’s not the same part of the family. Never will be either.

    You write,,,,

“The east end in particular, and Glasgow as a whole, is far more than just a branch, or an offshoot or a temporary residence. We are Glasgow Celtic.”

And therefore “we” others aren’t by that statement.

I find that a shocking statement I’m sorry BRTH.

We Irish hoops have exactly as much right as you to say we are Glasgow Celtic in my humble opinion. Gave as much to that club as you did and some would argue more given travel and costs plus it’s the entire bloody day not 90 minutes for us. Not to mention more expensive due to the travel and you must eat a few times.

We hoped and dreamed our sons and brothers would be blessed to play in those beautiful hoops,,,how are WE not Glasgow Celtic also?

Because we are not within walking or driving distance?

With the greatest respect BRTH, and I really mean that , I do have huge respect for you bhoys carrying the fight,,if you were sitting across the table from me right now in the bar you would be getting both barrels full blast had you said that in my company.

    Can’t stand Hearts.

    Can’t stand Hibs.

However, get it right up ye Levein.

    ——————————————–

Would like to like Hibs, and if I was Hibs fan I’d probably hold a grudge against Celtic due to the less than honourable behaviour of Celtic in our early days in terms of tempting players away from our Edinburgh cousins.

    Also – love Lenny.

Anyway – we should all (us, Hibs, Dundee Hibernian) join forces against the wide range of Huns.

    Away for a curry…..

  12. Still not sure about McGinn.

I think he lacks the basic ability to be a good Celtic player and can look workmanlike at times but then as the game goes on he seems to get stronger and more influential.

I suppose it will be down to those better qualified than me to be the ultimate judge, but at the moment I’m not sure who he would replace in our team and in the future I’m not sure he is good enough to be a pivotal player.

  13. Mahe

Love the sentiment of Celtic being a club that could be based anywhere but we were founded in Glasgow and that’s where we belong.

Can you imagine Barcelona relocating to say, Miami, and things being the same?

    Not a chance.

  14. Re Scott Allan being prematurely discarded. He is still a Celtic player & contracted to Club until the summer of 2019.

Mahe I am an Irish Supporter as well and yes it’s usually a 36 hour trip and a couple of hundred Euro to attend a game & to be fair I believe Scottish Tims see us as part of the Club & appreciate our coming over.

I think BRTH was simply stating the obvious and the reality is no matter how great a wordsmith you are and no matter how lyrically you wax any suggestion that Celtic’s base be moved out of Glasgow is pure pish.

  15. BGFC

“Would like to like Hibs, and if I was Hibs fan I’d probably hold a grudge against Celtic due to the less than honourable behaviour of Celtic in our early days in terms of tempting players away from our Edinburgh cousins.”

I would not get too apologetic about that. Hibs were at the same game. They played Lugar Boswell in a Friendly in the early 1880’s and promptly signed 3 of their midfield players, returning 2 years later to sign a 4th. Two of those Lugar players, Jimmy McGhee and Jimmy McLaren were tempted to Glasgow by Celtic later. If Hibs ever apologise to Lugar Boswell, then we can apologise to them.

  16. Mahe, you have taken the wrong emphasis I think. I don’t think BRTH meant “WE are Glasgow Celtic”; I think the emphasis is “we are GLASGOW Celtic”.

Never have I wanted Celtic to leave Glasgow. I don’t believe I have typed that.

I repeat that in the event of a whitewash I think we should move. Or Belfast Celtic it rather than take any more part. That’s not me wanting Celtic to leave Glasgow.

Now as I read that statement from brth that the Celtic fans from Glasgow are Celtic.

I find that very very wrong.

    We are all Celtic.

If that was said in my company whoever said it would get both barrels and then a pint , handshake and a bit of banter.

    Full stop.

I was referring to a quote by Brendan this week that Ryan Christie will be back at Celtic in the summer but Scott Allan has found a home at Hibs.

More or less said that he wouldn’t be back.

I worry that this might be a mistake but I’m happy to let Brendan decide.

Two domestic defeats in 80 odd gives him that right.

Something to consider for all the Fuds who phoned the radio tonight expressing concern that Boyata might start on Sunday.

FFS if Brendan picks him get behind him!

What VFR said but it is my fault for not emphasizing the Glasgow in bold.

Sir Edward Marshall Hall would have ny guts for garters for that.

  21. Corkcelt

Scott Allan is a really intelligent footballer, always trying to play football creatively and I know that he works extremely hard off the park to improve himself.

Unfortunately he is probably a little soft and his tendency to be creative means he makes too many unforced errors, therefore I doubt he’ll be retained next year, or let go before that.
