WELCOME TO CELTIC, Msr EDOUARD

0

CELTIC fans didn’t know what to expect when the club unveiled teenager Odsonne Edouard for his debut against Hamilton Accies at the SuperSeal stadium on September 8 2017.

The French starlet had agreed a one season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain after being with Toulouse the previous term.

Edouard, 19, lined up against the Accies and it didn’t take long for the champions’ supporters to realise they had a genuine talent at the club.

The silky, classy forward showed glimpses of quality and anyone expecting the 6ft-plus hitman to be a battering-ram centre-forward were pleasantly surprised.

Edouard saw Scott Sinclair, with a double, and Stuart Armstrong net three times for the visitors before he announced himself as a Celtic goalscorer in the second-half.

Jozo Simunovic sent him clear with an excellent through pass and the elegant raider took it in his stride, carried it on and then slid the ball behind the helpless Garry Woods.

On December 2, he rattled in a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory over Motherwell at Parkhead and the Hoops faithful had a new hero.

He did enough with 11 goals from 13 starts to persuade the Parkhead hierarchy to break thir transfer record and shell out £10million for the player in the summer.

It looks like being money well spent.

CQN today looks back at that goalscoring introduction at Hamilton just over two years and two days ago when the fans welcomed Odsonne Edouard to Scotland’s title kings.
