We’ve seen more of these games than Brendan

693

Thus far results haven’t mattered, but if his players walk into the dressing room at halftime tomorrow without being in the lead, you can believe there will be an edge in the team- talk. You and I have probably seen more of these kind of games than Brendan. They are seldom straightforward and while the manager plays with pretty much the hand he inherited, I don’t expect a remarkable change in outcomes.

Assuming results go to plan, we’ll have six Champions League qualifiers in the next seven weeks. That’s a lot of football, hopefully most of it will be played with the benefit of one or two more arrivals.

I read a very good book few years ago which was about walking tours around the industrial historical sites of glasgow districts.

Something that jumped out the pages to me was the ulster protestant migration of their poor. The orange side being treated markedly different from the Irish.

Jobs in mills. Brigeton. Cigarette making in Alexandra parade. Better housing.

    The calton in between.

Was it brht who did the short story about the bhoys in saint Marys hall in November 1887.

And their terror of going to brigeton.

Also historical foot note. From Sean’s brilliant Celtic the early years. Brother walfrid school backed onto brigeton.

  23. Sacred Heart Parish and school were in the heart of Bridgeton. I was raised on stories of the men folk walking with the First Communicants with staves in their hands for Corpus Christi and May Processions. That was my granny’s upbringing til she got a house in Dennistoun, when she was married.
