What chance we see rival SPLs next season?

1081

I wonder if we will see two rival Scottish Premier Leagues next season?  We could see a SPL consistent with the threats made to SFL clubs last week, let’s call it SPL Loyal, with Hibs, KIlmarnock and a few others.  They would sit atop a feeder league containing whoever they could attract from the SFL and Sevco, who due to fan power would be excluded from the top division, no matter how few teams that division had.

Meanwhile a rival SPL could setup, let’s call it SPL Solvent, with Celtic, those from the Gang of 10 who realise they are better-off participating in a league which is likely to survive until next May, along with the teams who last season finished near the top Scottish Football league.

SPL Solvent would make no threats to exclude SFL clubs who were due promotion on merit, and would therefore attract the balance of SFL clubs; which is likely to be the overwhelming majority.  This league would contain the only club with the ability to underwrite the commitments needed to bring broadcasters and commercial partners on-board.  It would also be free of, moral and ethical questions, where clubs are united with their fans on what it means to organise sporting events.

It’s not the worst idea floated in recent weeks.

  9. Reflecting a great tournament, what about the quality of the ‘punditry’? Mark Lawreson must be the absolute FUD of FUDS! Adds hew haw to anything resembling sentient discussion about fitba. Eventually I had to decide between the utterly banal drivel from the BBC and Hansen, Shearer and co. (Vialli excepted) and the adverts on STV/ITV (balanced with the insights of WGS and Martinez). Eventually plumpped for using the ‘jump’ button between the two, avoiding the adverts.

In general I thought the general observations of the so-called experts was shockingly shallow and ban al. No insight offered usually. I person ally want to hear about something I can’t see for myself.

  10. ET – The other reason I’m not going for Ramos is that the wife said “he’s lovely” every time he got the ball! :-)

A few thoughts on BalloTV – he’s young and rash. He’s moved to a `big’ club too soon for his maturity with far too much cash to spend. He therefore thinks he is better than he actually is. Mancini doesn’t know how to handle him. He’s only got 7? caps for Italy. Given time and the right coaching he could become a right good player as he has the attributes but he is not the finished article. I think Man C should send him to Glasgow for a season or 2 to smooth the rough edges off. Thoughts?

  26. CAR giants Audi have pulled the plug on a multi-million pound sponsorship deal with Rangers.

The Lomond Audi dealership had an agreement to supply cars for the club’s stars, including striker Steven Naismith and defender Kirk Broadfoot.

But dealership bosses are said to be expecting players and staff at the crisis-hit Ibrox side to hand back 45 top of the range cars by today.

Lomond Audi, which has an annual turnover of £160million and also supplies cars to Celtic, struck the Rangers deal in 2010.

Audi haven’t done walking away, but they have driven away

The premium car company did not renew the contract after Rangers were liquidated. The club is set to be denied entry to the SPL and may have to apply for the Third Division.

Now the players face having to buy their own cars at a time when wages could be slashed.
