What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

  3. hail hail…need a little help here….im at work…and 1 of our english guys brought up why rangers fans are called huns …and celtic fans are called tims……..causing a bit of debate between myself in the green corner….and my mate in the blue corner..( i know…..but it takes all sorts)…..when the blue corner made a statement that stopped me in my tracks….iv tried google but a lot of sites are blocked for us out here….his claim is that celtic park was closed sometime in the 40,s due to nazi propaganda at parkhead….obviously my response was a LOT of coulorfull language which translated as “nonsense” he seems convinced of this and claims theres newspaper clippings around as evidence…my unblocked sites that i can access only mentions celtic park being closed down for a month in 1941 in relation to crowd trouble at ibrokes over a disputed penalty…I dont see how nazi, ism fits or could have fitted in with the celtic ethos (obviously we in the present have the benifit of hindsight, no-one knew at that time what exectly was going on)…..could anyone clarify this…..normaly i have no problem hunskelping…but this comment kinda blindsided me as iv never herd this 1 before.

Enjoyed your ref. to Scottish contributions the other day.

    Tims? Tim Malloy.

Huns? My theory? Adherents to the British Royal family ie. the house of Saxe Coburg Goethe ie. German.

No relationship that I am aware of between Celtic F.C. and support for Naziism.

    A sordid hun fairy tale.

Sadly, some members of the I.R.A. gave support to German plans to attack British army bases in N.I.in `40.

These proved to be futile and had no association whatsoever with Glasgow Celtic.

Many Celtic supporters, from all parts of the world, fought with the British Army against fascist Germany.

    Many.

  6. i gave much the same answer to the hun / tim question.(well…mongolian hun hordes who raped and slaughtered their way thru europe burning every major city to the ground)……the nazi thing rattled me….still googling it now…pretty sure its a hun fairy tale..mentioned hun draft dodgers etc….

a bigoted soap dodging “peepul”. very familiar with beastiality, shagging his daughter when his mum, and 50 sisters are on the rag, shouting no surrender, 1690, can always be seen with the obligitory rangers chain, the usual loyalist tattoos, and with the the obvious body odour it looks like its maybe time their love for Queen and country was repayed with communal showers or maybe if they take the roof off ibrox we can get them all together and blew them to smithereens.

not too many celebrities claim to be huns, just the “peepul” scum of the earth. 26+6= 1

  9. Good morning friends and a Big Happy Friday from a cold East Kilbride where the snow has just begun to fall again.

Hampden in the sun looking unlikely.

  10. NCLHE….that link is blocked….any pdf pictures of the nazi flag at ibrox would be much appreciated…or any documentary evidence to that end…..id love to give that hun a red neck (almost impossible i know) seems like internet links are no good as the military here control what sites can be accesed…cant even get youtube ffs…..the locals here have a hair trigger…………

    Kabul Celt,

It was during a prewar international, so they usually babble about it being out with their control but can never explain why ayebrokes and not Hamden was the selected venue,

Me I think they volunteered to host it.

    From my previous link

Term used for a Rangers supporter. First used by in the judicial deliberation laid down following the infamous rioting of Ranger fans in 1972 after their cup winner cup victory. The judge is known to have said that the fans displayed hun like behaviour (i.e. rioting charging looting not disimilar from Atilla the Hun). The rioting was abhored by the Rangers F.C manager who said “It is to these tikes, hooligans, louts and drunkards that I pinpoint my message – it is because of your gutter-rat behaviour that we Rangers FC are being publicly tarred and feathered . . . ”

I see those Huns were rioting in Manchester, two European finals, two riots. They really are Scotlands Shame!!

    Kabul Celt,

IT may be more than 70 years since Germany’s first trip to Scotland for a football international but it still sparks debate.

Sunny Jim wants me to confirm Rangers, who hosted the game, were “compelled” to fly the Nazi flag with its swastika symbol.

It is true the Nazi flag and the Union Jack flew side by side over the Ibrox stands on October 14, 1936. However, this was more a case of good manners towards a guest team than something the SFA or Rangers had been compelled to do.

The Germans gave the Nazi salute prior to a sporting contest that Scotland won 2-0 thanks to a double by Celtic’s Jimmy Delaney.

  13. thanks neil…..copy and pasted…emailed….should end that slur….new in my heart it just couldnt be true…….

  14. Morning,

Am I the only one not getting this AIK anger thing.

They could not afford the loan fee!

  15. canamalar

The Swastika symbol was a symbol of the Sun/Peace (different cultures) a long time prior to the Nazis getting hold of it and literally twisting it in a certain manner.

I blame the Tibetan RFC division.

  16. Green was impressed by the way Newcastle renamed their stadium The Sports Direct Arena and brought in cash to buy Demba Ba for £2.7million before selling him to Chelsea for £7m.

He said: “The cash they used for the naming rights of St James’ Park was used to acquire Demba Ba.

    ++++++++++++++++++

Mmmmm this and this and this and this would seem to tell us that Demba Ba was signed on a free transfer in June 2011, five months before this informs us of the stadium name change.

Looks like someone is lying. Again.

And the papers are happily printing his lies. Again.

    Petec,

The welcome sign is not tilted and is easily distinguished from the swastika, I have seen these all over India from kanyakumarii to Srinagar and never seen one tilted.

    Please don’t confuse the two.

  19. Asonofdan

Sell your neighbour something at a ridiculous price … He never uses it… Ask to borrow it for 6 months at a low rental rate… He kindly obliges

At the end of that period .. He takes it back .. you and other neighbour ask to borrow it for a year… Other neighbour offers higher rental.

Hmmmm… Swedish logic must be different from scottish

    Petec,

It is displayed above the door as a welcome sign a bit like the welcome doormat.

  21. John Lloyd on TV ahead of Andy vs Novak semi in Oz Open. He played in the ’76 final vs Vitas Gerulitas, a close pal, and they played a warm up game against each other an hour before the final.

Can’t see that happening in the modern game!

Ps Lloyd lost the final and got 15k.

    tbj,

It’s a good luck/welcome/bless this house type thingy, at least that’s how it was explained to me in many Indian homes I visited, slightly varying the further north you go, then again maybe they were all trying to say the same thing and my understanding was at fault.
