It all starts for real next week but, unlike most previous Celtic managers who finds significant interest in his star player, Neil Lennon is pretty chilled when talking about the player moving on. I want to keep Victor, he reminds me of a young Keane (Roy), Neil will want to keep him too, but you have to wonder, what the manager would do with some cash to spend.
Only just catching up with CQN and the UK media, is anyone still interested in the big ball game? Delighted to hear the man from Dunblane got his just rewards. The excellent BBC documentary on him two weeks ago touched on issues you and me and not qualified to touch on here, but there is a great humanity story wrapped up in his achievement.
Our paucity of sporting genetic raw material is apparently untrue. From a (temporary) distance it’s evident he has branded the Scots better than any grappling politician ever could.

Hi again guys, this weather is phenomenal, BUT, the ole midge is having his say. I realise we need them to feed the bird population, especially the swallow, i am looking like THE HULK tonight with the wee bassas. Totally hate them. :((

I’m looking to hire a live band to play at a 50th birthday in October ,in Leven ,Fife.
A band that specialises in Soul/ Motown would be great.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

And before you all come on with remedies, I have tried everything from Loch Awe scientists to forestry specialists in Aberdeenshire, not a thing works to protect human society from this insect. :(((

GL2 – Clash of Empires by William Napier, about the great siege of Malta in 1565.
Not too challenging and plenty of historical background on the Knights of St John.

Re the midge. You got to stay calm and unflustered . The more agitated you get the more the midgies will attack. Just ignore the ones that go up your nose ,in your ears and bite your eyelids. Just lightly brush them away . Dont swear or get irate. Crush some bog mirtle leaves and rub them on your face.

Anything by Joe Nesbo with Inspector Harry Hole is top notch. The Snow leopard being one very popular Scandinavian murder ,mystery mystery, suspense type in the mould of Stieg larsson

They are the worst thing about living on a farm. It has been a long time since they have been as active due to the weather. All we require is a breeze. The breeze saves us all from their attacks. Thanks for that. :))

Bobby Murdoch’s Curled Up Winkle Pickers
I respect everybody’s right to have an opinion and yours are normally well considered and almost always delivered in a considered manner. (I use normally and almost always because I have seen no evidence to the contrary but there may be some that I have missed).
My point is that there are many on here who would support an independent united Ireland without any assessment of the pros and cons of that from an economic or social policy persepctive but are 100% against the any possibility of an independent Scotland.
I want a Scotland that removes nuclear weapons from our country and does not participate in adventurous wars in foreign lands. I want a Scotland that protects the NHS. I also want a Scotland that has the levers to improve the economic environment of the country to allow small and medium companies to grow (and pay their taxes).
There is a growing right wing agenda in British politics now that will continue to impact on Scotland unless we take our opportunity to stand on our own, taking responsibility and accountability for our own actions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is difficult to argue with much of the above,and I largely agree with your “wish-list”.
I don’t use that term disparagingly,but merely in the absence of any other!
My argument against independence is not because I dislike Salmond-in truth,I freely admit that I have always despised him-or the SNP,simply that the economics of the argument do not add up.
Had I been in a position to vote 40 years ago,I may have thought differently.
However,our abundant natural resources have since been squandered,and the price we have paid for losing them was our ability to stand alone.
Scotland has been raped and pillaged in that period. Many of its urban areas bear witness to a scorched earth policy in human and industrial terms.
While it may well never be rebuilt,I genuinely doubt we can do it alone.
Sir John Doyle,
I don’t doubt that you were being frivolous, but there is no indication that your post was meant as a joke.
Sorry for being so po-faced but not everybody will read it as you intended.
Good Luck.
I was fed up with the flag debate after reading back and it was in reply to a post that was light- hearted.
That is what you get when you have not posted in ages and had a drop of cider and wine in the garden.
Books –
“Longitude” by Dava Sobel is a fascinating book that describes the search for accurate navigation and some of the politics and science related to it. Also an interesting example of academia vs the self-taught man. If you’re taking a trip to the Maritime Museum in Greenwich you can see the originals of John Harrison’s clocks. One of which I believe has been running since it was built in the 18th century. Fascinating stuff.
Apologies if this has been linked previously, but in case any of the overseas bhoys haven’t seen it, it is a good insight to the man.
