Sell fans a ticket, you owe them a game of football. Whether the standard or result it good or bad, it’s a relatively easy commitment to keep. That’s what fans get in return for spending money on a ticket.
Sell people shares, you owe them a share certificate. That’s what shareholders get in return for coughing up for shares.
Borrow money from fans and you owe them much more than a game of football or a share certificate. In many instances that money will have come from people who had to forgo things to provide you with the loan. You owe them a duty of care that their loan will be repaid, or converted with their agreement.
It beggars belief that an unsecured loan has been offered to Rangers International by fans group, Rangers First. If, as claimed, the obligations to Sports Direct have been met, the club will have both the ability and the incentive to pass the securities previously held by Sports Direct to the fans group. The club’s IP, training ground and ancillary assets should now be unencumbered, who better to have security over these critical parts of the club than a fans group?
Unless, of course, the obligations to Sports Direct have not been met. Or someone else has their eye on the assets.
The claim that Dave King would match Rangers First’s loan took me by surprise. This was counter to everything I knew and expected of him. His swift denial was more consistent with expectations.
There is an axiom in football: Any club who has enriched a PR individual to the tune of £500k in the last year is making a serious attempt to divert it’s fans attention. Celtic’s PR machine deals with the efficient communication of football information and financial reports. Nothing whatsoever is spend attempting to lead the news agenda. This often leaves us on the receiving end of that agenda, but we have nothing to hide. Which is the way it should be.
Few sights in business or football can be more alarming than when purportedly wealthy people borrow money from poorer people. The warning signs are writ as tall as the Ibrox stands. This time there is no hidden Ticketus deal people can claim they didn’t know about.

Mighty Tim: I was in touch with Cloghercelt over the Christmas and will be meeting up with him in the next couple of weeks.
There are major works on O Connell Street to lay tracks for the ‘Luas’ , a light rail system, but I doubt that it would effect commemorations. I’m en route to Stranraer so will look into it early next week.
Last year the Lord Mayor of Dublin indicated that licensing laws would be changed to allow pubs here to open on Good Friday this year but to my knowledge that won’t be happening now.
Most organisations hosting events should be announcing them soon so I will post links here as I become aware of them. I would appreciate other Irish based times doing likewise.
I’ll be over for the match on Jan. 23 and will bring whatever brochures I can with me to the corner.

The Lisbon Lions eleven played in the ’67 Cup Final v the Sheep and the league decider v Deidco. So there’s at least 2 other games to prove shortbread wrong.

The Lisbon Lions…
They of course only became the Lisbon Lions after 25 May 1967 and the same team lost 1-2 to Dinamo Kiev at Celtic Park in the following season’s European Cup first round.
The Lions also played in four of the League Cup sectional ties of the 1967/1968 season beating Dundee Utd, Aberdeen and Rangers (1872 or 73 to 2012) and drawing with that Rangers too at Ibrox.
They of course took to the field on the last day of the 1970/1971 season however Ronnie Simpson did not take part in the match.
Can’t recall the Lions appearing at any other occasion.

CELTIC supporters intending to travel by train to this Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie against Stranraer should note that, because of damage to a bridge at Girvan, trains are unable to get through to Stranrarer.
ScotRail will be running extra replacement buses from Ayr to Stranraer, but supporters are advised to check the latest travel information HERE before setting out tomorrow, and also allow more time for their journey.
Celtic’s game against Stranraer at Stair Park this Sunday, January 10, kicks off at 3.15pm.

One of this site’s most celebrated contributors, Gordo RFC, has referred to the January transfer window as the ‘silly season’ and it would be difficult to disagree. Josh Windass has been cast as the new Paul Gascoigne, with Matt Crooks being compared to Yaya Toure. Jason Holt is now being compared to Ian Durrant and I have little doubt that the £100,000 stopper at Brentford will be elevated to being a putative Franz Beckenbauser. Should we doubt that Harry Forrester will be perceived by the SMSM as the new Jorg Alberz? I was not aware that there was so much talent in the third and fourth tiers of English football and non league clubs. How did the Championship’s scouts miss out on these gems? Surely they must have been beating a path to Accrington Stanley, Doncaster Rovers and Harrogate Railway? Is it any wonder that Reece Warbara of Alvechurch FC failed to make the grade in such esteemed company.
All these players have one thing in common. They are all out of contract. They are Bosman signings. As a condition of their signing they must agree to be a sandwich board for Season Tickets or Pay At The Gate Tickets. No new Rangers signing is allowed to be photographed by the press without the obligatory promotions board being given prominence. Rangers v Cowdenbeath is pay at the gate and no-one should be in any doubt that Rangers need any income that they can glean from their supporters.
The £2.5m to maintain Rangers as a going concern until June 30 was highlighted in the accounts. If £5m of the £6.5m that they are alleged to have raised was ring-fenced to pay Sports Direct, Rangers are £1m short of solvency. Mike Ashley has just returned to his desk from his vacation. If we are to believe CC King there are three new names on the ‘in lieu of equity’ list, namely Scott Bennett, Barry Scott and Andy Ross. However we don’t believe career criminal King which leads us to the conclusion that these loans are secured on the assets that we assume will be released by Sports Direct. Pay attention to the press releases. Barry Scott and Andy Ross are Real Rangers Men. Would we not prefer real Rangers men to have security on our assets in preference to Mike Ashley? Bennett, Scott and Ross did not come down in the last shower. Their loans will be secured.
The £1m shortfall was expected to be met by Rangers First. James Blair sat down at his mirror, removed his tie and gave his image a good dressing down. £500,000 is required urgently as CC King’s legal expenses are getting out of hand.
Mr Warburton is not signing these players through choice. He is signing them as they are not good enough for the English Championship and are free, save £60,000 or so development money. Are they good enough for the Scottish Premiership? They had better be or they will soon be found out. Will they be playing in the Europa Cup in 2017? Almost certainly not.

The Lions first appeared together in a 4-0 away victory at the old Muirton Park on January 14, 1967. They next appeared with that line-up in a 0-0 tie with the sheep at Parkheid on April 19. 6 days later again on a 0-0 tie in Prague and their final appearance together was in the title winning 2-2 tie at a rain soaked coup on May 6.
If Jock had had his way, in an effort to protect in his eyes, the “greatest Celtic team of all time” they would never have lined up together again.
IMHO “Hampden in the Sun” was the greatest.
Their 1st game after Lisbon John Fallon was in goal, was Ronnie injured, don’t think so. Our first defeat after Lisbon at the bigot dome Davie Cattenach played at right back and 4 days later in a defeat to Dynamo Kiev the Lions appeared again.
