Who suggested Whyte speaks to Ticketus?

384

Today is one of the most significant days for the future of Rangers as Duff and Phelps legal challenge to Ticketus ownership of around £40m of tickets over the next three seasons plays out.  Should Ticketus retain ownership of the tickets it considerably inhibits the phoenix scenarios Duff and Phelps are able to profile as they look to sell the club.

BBC Scotland’s business and economy editor, Douglas Fraser, Tweeted this afternoon that Duff and Phelps asked the court for permission to breach the agreement with Ticketus as it acts as an inhibitor to attracting potential bids for the club.  Fraser also notes that there is little precedent for such a breach and that the Blue Knights consortium have been able to construct a deal recognising Ticketus’ rights.

I heard earlier today that Craig Whyte is particularly distressed at some of the derogatory comments fired his way this week, a few of which he feels are unjustified.  The media are already speculating on what could happen to Mr Whyte in the event that police inquiries lead to a report being made to the crown office.

I understand supporters of Mr Whyte, who has maintained a dignified silence on many aspects of the deal, are curious as to why the person who led him to Ticketus has not revealed his involvement.  I hear that early last year when Whyte privately revealed he was unable to pull enough funds together to complete the takeover, he was told:

“Why don’t you speak to a company called Ticketus?  They are very helpful for this kind of thing.”

Having never worked in the football business, Whyte had never heard of Ticketus.  When I heard who this was I laughed and laughed and laughed.  I’m still laughing.  This is the story that just keeps on giving.  My source is not for going on the record, so discretion is the better part of valour on this one, but if Mr Whyte ever gets to the witness box, get yourself a front row seat.

The Daily Record today suggested Mr Whyte could end up in jail over this business.  I wonder if he’ll be the only one.

  1. I thought the SFA had already charged them with bringing the game into disrepute? Or was that the SPL?

I am a Celtic Supporter, I spend my money to watch Celtic!

    ————————————-

I’m not sure how to break this to you but the other team on the park playing in different colours, defending their goal and having the audacity to attack Celtic’s are there for a purpose.

To give you a Celtic to watch.

Without them you might as well do the Celtic Park tour every Saturday and admire the history.

This gives smaller clubs a wee bit of a negotiating advantage, especially if they gang up on us, so, much as it upsets you, we have to listen.

In days before TV, geography determined club size via the numbers close enough to come through the gate. Although TV income has destroyed that model elsewhere, the relatively small amount involved in the TV deal means it still applies to an extent in Scotland.

For the initial logical reasons set out, I have no problem with the principle of greater sharing. My worry (and I’m sure Celtic’s) is what will the opposition do with that extra cash to improve their standard as opposed to paying more to the same level of player? A50/50 share would lead to an overall dumbing down, with Celtic having as much chance of making any progress in Europe as say Hearts have now.

On the other hand the SPL clubs need to recognise that what keeps up the Celtic gate that they want a bite of , is not only that a winning team is turned out but the standard of play is acceptable.

Football is a perfect model of interdependence, everything effects everything else, just like life really.

Get it wrong and the whole construct is damaged or dies.

  3. Guys is it just me or is this beginning to feel like one of those timmy conspiracy things that they keep going on about?

I think someone in the SFA has got the wires extremely crossed. I suspect there will be EGM happening all over Scotland next week at the ludges.

I think I’ll put an offer in, £1 last year, they must have gone down in value, surely, so 25p sounds fair. Then I’ll just liquidate them, be quicker, same result as any other buyer.

  5. How do you expel ole Googly when he owns the club? Similarly you can’t quash the Ticketus deal otherwise we’re back to Lloyds putting them straight into liquidation where they should be.

    But wait…..,,

Rangers Fighting Fund – We Are The Paypal

    2012.

    Has anyone considered this?

If all Celtic fans (or anyone that doesn’t like Rangers) with a Paypal account were to send them 1p it would cost them 20p +3.5% (approx) in order to receive it.

Now they can’t get around these fees by claiming they are a charity, as they are not, they also can’t claim it’s personal money, as again, it’s not.

The money, as it is being used to fund a business, is also taxable and would need to be declared.

They could of course refund payments they feel are not of a “viable” amount, but can you imagine the admin’ time needed if this was done en-masse?

While I admire your sence of fairness re the gate money split, I disagree with you wholeheartedley, in fact I disagree violently :>)

The gang of 10 or whatever have over the years gradually watched the demise of their own teams, and we all know who’s fault that is,

NOT A SINGLE ONE has had the baws to stand up to them and the sfa, not a single one, and now when the hun are on their knees they see an oportunity to bring us down as well.

We are scottish football, not the gang of 10-12, they have their chance and have blown it, hell mend them.

  13. Being a charitable guy I am thinking of contributing some money to unfortunate clowns- and thats not MR and MRS custard. Does anyone know the link to the begging bowl of the “gallant pioneers”, as I think I may contribute 1p to their (in)fighting fund

I am as shocked as the next Tim that they have been charged, but cast your mind back to Farry, he was found not guilty twice by the sfa, they have a track record I fear, even in the recent past, letting bugera and the like off with a slap on the wrist.

Your doubt is based on this being a Scottosh only matter, HMRC is a UK reserve not Scotland. As an ex Civil Servant my experience was things were played down the middle and the rule of law was paramount.
