Why Hearts should buy Ibrox

943

Vladimir Romanov has grown bored of his Hearts experiment as an investment of tens of millions of pounds failed to change the side from mid-table strugglers into a team capable of something Motherwell seem able to do on significantly less.

Romanov wanted to transform Hearts into the biggest club in Scotland but failed to address the structural limitations of the club.  While Hearts may be the biggest team in Edinburgh, Edinburgh is a net exporter of football fans, Tynecastle is squeezed into a cramped corner of the city and provides very little opportunity to harvest corporate income, and, in case you haven’t noticed, there were two well-established competitors in a larger, net-import city with ample corporate income opportunities.

Various Hearts boards have looked to relocate the club or extend facilities at Tynecastle without much headway being made.  A bid of £22m was received from a house builder for the stadium some years ago but without a viable alternative the deal stalled.

A viable alternative could come onto the market soon.

If Rangers go out of business Romanov is in a unique position to take advantage.  Craig Whyte holds a floating charge on Ibrox and Murray Park but any bid in excess of his liability, which would be considerably less than the value of the properties, which have a book value of £139m, would secure both pieces of real estate.

Hearts could sell Tynecastle and Hearts training ground, raising enough funds to considerably offset what they would need to pay to secure Ibrox, if not provide a surplus, and establish foothold in the Glasgow market to complement their historical Edinburgh fan base.  One club would have a pull on a huge proportion of Scotland’s two largest cities.

At a stroke Romanov would ensure his club were for all time, at the very least, the second largest team in Scotland, and, eventually, could push Celtic for top spot.

It would be a ballsy move, but if you want to create a super-club you need to think a little creatively.

  2. At first I was very disappointed at fat Sally saying that honest tax payers shouldn’t gloat at rankers demise, now I believe he is right. We shouldn’t gloat we should be focussing our attention on ensuring that all criminal activities perpetrated by a series of boards of Directors at snake mountain and also those who shielded them within the SFA are investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Sally is right don’t gloat, get angry, get legal, don’t sink to what they do such as sending bombs or attacking people in the street or at stadia.

    Magnificentseven,

I expect the police and the “decent” ranhers fans will have a choice to make, civilised society or ethnic cleansing. We know there are a fair number who have already made that choice, cause we hear them every week. This is a defining moment in Scotlands history. Everybody on here says they know decent huns, I guess they’ll find out soon enough.

  5. Have also contacted ESPN to complain about burley. Has the arsehole responded to lennys after match rebuke yet?

(Wouldn’t normally use the word A——-hole but in this case that is exactly what burley is.

  6. Not forgetting the five thoooosan bangers that Mr Zipper T. Doodah threw into the pot with a cavalier flourish!

  10. Perhaps the Paul Murray group tried to link up with the saverangers consortium and someone then had a closer look at the pledge list with a view to following up – that would explain why both parties have now gone very quiet – would have been fun to be a fly on the wall at the report back meeting!

Well done mate, can not stress how important it is for us all to throw our collective weight behind this, he has one hell of a chip on that shoulder of his, he really does have it in for our club.

I dont listen to any phone-ins these days, but remember a call from a few years back regarding Hugh Keevins.

HK was on his high horse regarding rebel songs being sung at football matches.

A caller then alleged that at a Celts for Change meeting HK finished the meeting by shouting Tiocfaidh ár lá.

    HK strongly denied this.

The caller said “i have my friend next to me who was also at the meeting, he will back up what i have said, will i put him on?”

“yes, i did not say those words” said HK

“My friend is Father Gerald Kearney. Will i still put him on?”

HK mumbled something under his breath, then said “next caller”

So we will never know if HK ever said those words, but surely he wouldn’t have……

    Would he???

I make no apologies for reposting this link again and again whilst thanking the increasing number of supporters who are taking a few minutes to support Lenny who was as angry as I’ve seen him in an interview yesterday due to this fud Burley

Well done was encouraging complaints and cancellations during the night shift last night, need to keep this rolling.

The media need to realise the tide’s turning, Burley needs sorting.
