Why Hibs are a good bet tomorrow, blaming Ibrox monkeys, not the organ grinder

760

Before you get carried away, let me remind you: Our Premier League record of 25 consecutive wins in season 2003-04 came to an end at home to Motherwell, the game after a memorable European victory over Barcelona. Our 2007 win over European Champions, Milan, was followed by a harrowing game against Gretna at Fir Park, where the soon-to-be-liquidated minnows held the lead until the 87th minute.

The last 10 days have been mentally and physically exhausting for the players: a League Cup quarter-final victory, humbling Newco, then raising the bar further against Anderlecht, all three games away from home. There will be a natural drop-off in endorphins, even the coaches will find it difficult to squeeze determination to climb another summit so soon.

A home game against soft-looking Hibernian is exactly how 57 game unbeaten domestic runs come to an end.

It’s always a bit disconcerting to see the media report a story of discord at Newco, conditioned, as we were, by the blanket of control Sir David Murray shrouded news outlets with while at Oldco. Now news that Brother Pedro has banished Kenny Miller from the Newco first team squad.

Kenny is the innocent party in all of this, apparently. Troubles are the manager’s fault.

Miller, “a guy who lives and breathes Rangers (sic.)”

Miller, “a guy who lives and breathes Rangers (sic.)”

You and I both know that Pedro, Kenny and everyone else at Ibrox are woefully under-resourced to compete at the summit of the Scottish Premiership. That’s the only important part of this story, and the answer doesn’t lie on the pitch or in the dug-out on match days. At best, the person responsible for that is watching games poolside in South Africa.

All that campaigning to unseat the Easdales was for this. It’s a Brexit-style self-delusion, with an inevitable outcome.

Celtic FC Foundation, Great Scottish Run

I can’t tell you him much I appreciate the generous support ahead of the Great Scottish Run this Sunday, for the Celtic FC Foundation.  As I said yesterday, we are not only about winning trophies, and the Champions League, this club is has deep roots in helping our fellow those in need.

I’ve never made porridge in Malawi, or fed the poor in Haiti, not would I know how to engage with Autistic kids, but you and me can do our bit for those who have the responsibility of delivering help where needed.  What I can do is run on Sunday and ask for sponsorship.  If you can help, do so at this MyDonate page.

Thank you.

  1. Good morning CQN from a cool and dry East Devon.

Let’s pump the the Hibees today, not by too much though ‘cos I like Lenny but can’t abide Petrie.

    YNWA

  2. I hope we take 4 or 5 off Hibs today.

I respect NFL and love his love of Celtic. Loved him as a player and loved him as a manager of our club, although I believe and said at the time he should not have got managers job due to inexperience and being the cheap option.

Today Brendan is our manager and Hibs are our opponents.

So 3 pts and bags of goals please.

  3. Thanks to everyone who offered their condolonces and prayers for Ben – it will be some comfort at this tragic time.

I think I know the answer but….. Fosters? I`ll keep the answer to myself.

Today? Well, of course I want a win but, after European mid-week games, teams, as Paul`s article suggested, often suffer on the Saturday. I wouldn`t be amazed with a draw but a defeat really would be a surprise. Scott Brown`s absence will be the biggest factor — especially as his normal replacement, Stuart Armstrong , is also missing.

Simunovic might be rested so do we play Ajer and Boyatta? Bitton behind a midfield four of Forrest,Ntcham McGregor and Sinclair?

    Gordon

    Lustig Boyata Ajer Tierney

    ……………..Bitton

    Forrest Ntcham McGregor Sinclair

    ……………Dembele

Hayes for Sinclair at some stage. Likewise, Millar for Tierney and maybe Rogic for CalMac.

    Interesting selection today, I feel.

    I think you mean ” imply “, which I didn`t.

That was an accusation addressed to me , not by me.

You may have inferred that I did , but you were in error.

    No matter.

  18. Good to see NL back at Celtic Park.

Loved him as a player but had serious reservations about him as as manager.

Never felt he understood the standing of his position and the importance of representing Celtic Football Club in the wider world.

Brendan however gets it in spades!

  20. The man (Pedro) has truly lost it but the huns are loving him. This after beating the mighty Hamilton

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha thanked his players for their show of support in a 4-1 win over Hamilton on Friday.

Caixinha’s position has come under fresh scrutiny since last week’s loss to Celtic and another set-back against Accies might have placed his future in considerable doubt.

However, Gers recovered from Hamilton’s first-minute opener to claim victory and there was a clear display of unity after wideman Daniel Candeias netted their third goal.

He made a bee-line for his manager before dragging Caixinha into the team’s celebrations – and it was a gesture the Portuguese appreciated.

“I can express that in a word that for me is very important – gratitude,” said Caixinha, who cut a subdued figure for most of the match.

“You bring me to be here, you bring me to Rangers, as the Rangers manager, I am going to give everything to you, give my life to you. I’m a man of principal so I appreciate the gratitude from Daniel.

“I said that we really need to know what they are made of. I know what they are made of. I sent this challenge to them and they said yes, we are here to play for Rangers, to play for us – and to play for you because you bring us here.”

  21. Just about to be ‘aff oot’ and ‘doon the road’. Looking forward to the game immensely, as always. What a pleasure it is to be able to be in Paradise.

Expecting a win, although it might be tough. We may start slowly, after Wednesday nights efforts, but we should still have too much for Lennie’s Hibs, even allowing for the absence of Broonie and Stretch. I would give Bitton the anchor role in midfield along with Ntcham and Rogic to start. Calum would bring more energy and that might be needed in the second half. Would also start with big Moussa up front and give Griff a breather before coming on for last 30 minutes or so.

No score predictions. Just a win wiill be fine for me.

    Hail Hail !

  22. Oh aye, and, Moderator II – feel free to delete last post if it doesn’t make any sense. Using that criteria, I really shouldn’t bother any more
