You did this

470

This year some of your money went to Whizz-Kidz, who help some of the estimated 70,000 children in the UK waiting for the right wheelchair.  They not only provide equipment and life skills, but also offer support to young people.  Take a look at this video to find out the kind of way your cash has changed a life:

We’ve just sent off money to Action on Depression, a Scottish charity working with some of the 10% of the population who suffer from this illness at some point in their lives.  Like all of the recipients of your money this year, there is a feeling that we provided no more than a drop in the ocean of what is required, but with depression we felt that bringing the subject out into the open was as important as the money donated.

This illness can do enormous damage lurking in the shadows, let’s kick it into the light.

Many of you will remember the Martin Chamber Ecuador Trust.  Fr Martin left Scotland some years ago to help some of the most deprived people on earth.  In his words, this is why we helped:

“I would say that people should care about the poor people of Ecuador firstly because they are our brothers and sisters.  On top of that their needs are great: they have no running water, no proper sanitation, no sewerage system and poor electricity.  They have little access to education or to medical care and they are crammed together in bamboo huts – mile upon mile of houses, millions of people living below the poverty line.  That’s why people should care.”

You gave to the Ronnie Coyle Benefit Trust, sadly, Ronnie is no longer with us, you donated to the Aberdour PTA, from the Fife village that hosts our summer get-together, and you gave a donation to The Haven, who help people with life limiting illness from Glasgow and Lanarkshire.  Their story is available in a short video here, take a look at what your money is doing.

All in I’d say you did very well.  Very well indeed.  Have a great Christmas, you deserve it.

Some of the rags have both Stokes and Matthews back in training today so think it may be bench at best.

  4. I hope you guys enjoyed those as much as I did. The last one gets the heart pounding. I hope everybody had a good Christmas and now it is time to sort out the hun. Win that one and bring in a couple of class players and we may well go on to be a team of legend and folklore.

I think your 2nd will be Lenny’s choice, but with Ki on the left..

Can I just ask, as I’ve noticed many favouring him, why you have included Kelvin Wilson in your own line-up, given his terrible afternoon against the huns, subsequent poor form thereafter, and lack of match practice? Where has his sudden improvement come from? I realise none of the CB permutations offer little in the way of combined experience, but at least we know Wanyama and Mulgrew worked superbly well together on the 24th.

  8. mccargo- I really hope Stokes is available for Wednesday, because at the moment Bangura is simply not an option for the squad.

Now the boy may come good and I hope he does, but he is so far out of sync with the team it was like playing a man down on Saturday.

He needs developing but not on Wednesday, if Stokes fails I would sooner play Paddy up front than Mo B.

Like Sutton’s volley I was in the company of the darkside last night, I cannot get my head around their rationale however I conceded Rangers are a massive shout for Wednesday and will win, @ odds of 3/1 they should pile on, Celtic have been poor at home and Rangers big players, Jelavic, Davis and, Aluko will all come good.

They also didn’t know when I told them the earth was flat and the moon made out of green cheese.

As we are reconvening on New Year’s Day, I will keep my powder dry until then. Steak Pie, not Humble Pie for me.

Flip of a coin between Wilson and Rogne as both have had off days and bad runs, the reason I chose either for centre half is I much prefer Wanyama in midfield and I feel if we go strong in the middle with wanyama/kayal/brown it will help protect the centre backs and cut off any supply to big jellyfish….

Whoever Neil chooses will do for me though, that much I’m sure on.

    Merry Christmas to you, sir.

(Turkey foil hat on – it’s all there is) I actually thought Bangura wasn’t too bad on Saturday. :-)

Overall, he’s been poor, and I agree with the points about his first touch etc., but there were a few signs of possible improvement from him I took out of the Killie match. Understand, there is NO WAY I would consider him for Wed, but Jebus he must have something for £2m or whatever it was we paid for him.

Optimism does not sit easy with me when it comes to a hun game – butterflies already just thinking about it.

  14. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

    I predict …. A close game.

My feelings are that the league will be won a bit further down the line.

I also think RFC sales in January may be the crucial turning point. They could be left with the mere ruins of a team that will expose them to gubbings from unlikely teams…. Like St Mirren ( ha!)

If we add to our team it’s a done deal.

Obviously I’d love to pump them on Wednesday but if don’t it’s not the end of the world.

    2012 will be our year!

Paul Larkin on BTW phone-in claimed relationship between him and Lenny irrevocably broken down, and that we were looking to loan him out to Southampton in Jan.

Also this from celticrumours earlier today: “What is the feeling of getting kicked out of one of the finest clubs in the world?” What would that refer to?

Apologies if adding 2+2 = garbage.

  16. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

McGregor, Whittaker, Davis, Jelavic , Aluko, Lafferty will all be playing like it is their last game…guess why?

  17. Glad to see folk discussing Paul McStay. I idolised him as a football player. He had everything in my eyes. I often wonder how things would have panned out with the Maestro and Henrik in the same team.

I walked past him a couple of years ago in Braehead. He must have saw my jaw hit the ground as he sauntered past unencumbered by his past.

why do these kids have to rely on charity? Surely the NHS should be paying for this type of equipment if these kids are not mobile. If somebody is psychologically damaged they pay for false tits(that’s breasts not teddy bears) so why not help these people out?

I don’t care about the score on Wednesday as long as I wake up and Thursday and we are top of the league until the end of the season.

    Hail hail

  19. Langtoon_Bhoy_In_The_Dam on

Morning friends, countrymen and CQNers, Very infrequent poster but been around for 5 years + on this hallowed site. As the monicur suggests, normally live in Amsterdam but back in the Lang Toon for Xmas (is it possible for a man to miss stuart’s mince rounds, beef monster munch and irn bru sooo much !?). Fantastic, fantastic couple of results on Saturday – was out in the car with the missus and just had one of those celtic / festive / good-guy waves wash over me and I knew that the horribles were struggling down paisly way….. Sweet.

I know that it is maybe not CQN etiquette to beg but I have been let down on a couple of tickets for wednesday for me and the boy. Just in case any of you have had a late call off etc and can help out a couple o genuine celts. Forgive my impudence, I will now head back to the dark recesses of the lurking fraternity (until such time as the Celts draw Ajax in the Champions League next year and I will become hotelier, tour guide and ticket tout :) ).

    Hail hail to you all.

    Great team selection…

Collins? Great technique no end product for me. McStay retired with a sore back…through Carrying Jon Collins IMO!

  21. voguepunter- I hope I’m forgiven, the lies come out very easy when I see their faces lighting up, was trying not to lay it on too thickly.

Up_over_goal- ….and the very same to you, Sir!

Yes I agree, in the last 10 mins he did seem to have a slightly better touch, won a couple of headers and a few flick ons, but he blotted his copybook in injury time when he stupidly stood offside when big Wilson found him from the free kick, thus putting the pressure right back on us.

So far I have not seen anything like £2m in him, it may be he is just overawed, he seems confused when he gets the ball and his decision making is very slow. However there have been loads of players who came good after a very poor start, Alan Stubbs particularly sticks out in this respect.
