You did this

470

This year some of your money went to Whizz-Kidz, who help some of the estimated 70,000 children in the UK waiting for the right wheelchair.  They not only provide equipment and life skills, but also offer support to young people.  Take a look at this video to find out the kind of way your cash has changed a life:

We’ve just sent off money to Action on Depression, a Scottish charity working with some of the 10% of the population who suffer from this illness at some point in their lives.  Like all of the recipients of your money this year, there is a feeling that we provided no more than a drop in the ocean of what is required, but with depression we felt that bringing the subject out into the open was as important as the money donated.

This illness can do enormous damage lurking in the shadows, let’s kick it into the light.

Many of you will remember the Martin Chamber Ecuador Trust.  Fr Martin left Scotland some years ago to help some of the most deprived people on earth.  In his words, this is why we helped:

“I would say that people should care about the poor people of Ecuador firstly because they are our brothers and sisters.  On top of that their needs are great: they have no running water, no proper sanitation, no sewerage system and poor electricity.  They have little access to education or to medical care and they are crammed together in bamboo huts – mile upon mile of houses, millions of people living below the poverty line.  That’s why people should care.”

You gave to the Ronnie Coyle Benefit Trust, sadly, Ronnie is no longer with us, you donated to the Aberdour PTA, from the Fife village that hosts our summer get-together, and you gave a donation to The Haven, who help people with life limiting illness from Glasgow and Lanarkshire.  Their story is available in a short video here, take a look at what your money is doing.

All in I’d say you did very well.  Very well indeed.  Have a great Christmas, you deserve it.

on a one to one basis they are ok, in a crowd they are everything i detest.

Al good few of my friends are from the darkside, I steer clear of them on certain occasions though. Something about that club that turns nice guys in to animals.

    Hail Hail

  4. my bhoy is 14 i have held off the season ticket as i am unable to take him as i coach kids footie 1 more year to go and the season book i regret giving up is renewed.

When you renew I feel you and your bhoy “just can’t get enough!”

We are making a day of it, beers, a “civilised” meal then the Vaults for the slaying of the hun.

I pray all the Celtic Family have a safe and enjoyable day. The hun are not to be underestimated and I don’t mean on the pitch.

I have to admit I don’t really have much experience of The Dark Side.

I live in a place where most folk are Celtic fans, we go to school with our own, and I am self employed, so don’t have an interaction witg them there either.

I worked with a member of the Rangers first team in a professional capacity, and he was very personable and easy going.

He stopped to sign autographs in an easy and relaxed way, I was impressed by him.

I’m not saying they are all evil, some of my best friend support them, my point is that there something ingrained in the support that turns decent folk in to animals when in company.

I live, work and play amongst their hatred and tbh it amuses me how naive and irrational football/colours (not you Hansen!!) can make a decent man.

Its not right, but hey who am I to complain, we all take our own path

  9. sutton’s volley,

Are you going to the game?

I don’t have a ticket, but feel a mad mental night is on the cards.

    Where are you watching it?

  11. The in law from Dumfries spilt a white Russian all over me.

Big smiles, no bother, I do that all the time.

A good night anyway, here’s to us, Wha’s like us?

  12. Just watching ‘The Best Celtic Goals Ever’, sometimes we forget just what a special and unique talent Paul McStay was. He didn’t just play for us, more than most he understood us and knew what we are all about.

  13. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

PMcS easily the best I’ve ever seen in the Hoops…I always place him above Jinky and King of Kings or Dalgliesh because Paul was surrounded by a poor team. Nott only that he rejected offers a plenty to leave to play in better teams in better leagues.

I shudder to think how far the Team would have fallen had Paul left….

  15. Paul McStay best Celt ever or atleast of a generation.

Would need to agree with that Paul gave up more than most for the cause in the bleak days of the ’90’s.

His strike at Ibrox in ’88 may never be matched. He was a great talent from the heart of the Celtic family.

16 years totally devoted to Celtic.

    Morning.

Can I ask that we tread lightly on accusations of ulterior motives from our fellow posters? If you have suspicions, I assume that most know how to reach me: just add a proscribed word in a post and it will be sent for moderation. Add “Do Not Post” in the first line just to ensure that I notice it.

I checked out Martybhoy’s IP details and no red flags were raised.

Martybhoy’s accusations of Craig Whyte could be seen as inflamatory efforts designed to lead to a defamation suit. There again, all of what he is saying I have heard before. Some information from very reliable, but secretive sources who do not want their information published. Other snippets in the form of unverified rumours.

I will say that I have known for some time about another investigative body who have expressed an interest in some of the material we are discussing. However, we should all be careful about posting specifics that could affect an investigation. If any actors in this drama have been “at it” and if the authorities are looking into it, we would be best to just let events take their course.

A little hypocritical given this blog? Not really, but I can see the potential for the accusation. Best I explain this point when all of this once the curtain has fallen on this drama.

Rangers set to appeal McCulloch’s ‘very harsh’ red card as McCoist questions key decisions

RANGERS are expected to appeal the red card shown to Lee McCulloch in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to St Mirren.

The midfielder was sent off after 24 minutes for swinging an arm at Graham Carey as they contested a high ball, with Ally McCoist, the Rangers manager, revealing he felt the decision was “very harsh”.

If Rangers appeal, as seems likely, then McCulloch would be available for Wednesday night’s Old Firm match at Celtic Park as the Scottish Football Association’s disciplinary tribunal will not adjourn to discuss the incident until Thursday.

McCoist expressed his disappointment at the sending off and also questioned Carey’s role in the incident. “I’ve had a good chat with Lee and he assures me there was no malice at all and he was just trying to fend the boy [Carey] off,” he said. “The boy actually had an arm around his waist which you could see and I was a wee bit disappointed with the way the boy went down to be honest.

“No physio came on to my knowledge. So it changed the game, no doubt about it, and we are disappointed with it.”

McCoist also questioned Steven McLean’s decision to dismiss Dorin Goian for two yellow cards late in the match. “The referee will tell you that technically he is right. And that’s it really,” he said. “There is nothing more I can say on it other than he probably could have stayed on the park.”

With no appeal possible for a second booking, Goian will now miss the trip to Celtic Park. Kyle Bartley would seem the most likely replacement although there could also be a surprise recall for David Weir. “Davie played and scored two goals against Motherwell in midweek,” McCoist said. “He definitely has a big chance.”

While McCoist stewed over what he perceived to be two poor refereeing decisions, Paul McGowan, the scorer of St Mirren’s second goal, felt that Kyle Lafferty was fortunate also not to see red for a poor tackle on him.

“He [McCulloch] has used his elbow so it is a sending off,” he said. “But I think Lafferty’s was a lot worse than McCulloch’s. The ref said it was borderline [yellow or red], but I didn’t understand that as I could have been lying there with a leg break.

“I don’t want to see players being sent off but that was a bad challenge.”
