Zaluska assault

808

I didn’t realise until this morning that the assault on Lukasz Zaluska’s assault by two premiership footballers was so serious as to have the player lying unconscious on the ground for several minutes.  The Celtic player was out in Glasgow with his wife Sunday night before the incident.

Lukasz was singled-out for online abuse by two Dundee United players in August, one from Poland, one Scottish-born player who has represented Northern Ireland, after the Legia Warsaw Champions League qualifier.  The Polish player subsequently took to Twitter to campaign for Legia’s punishment for fielding a suspended player against Celtic to be reduced.

The stories I could tell about various footballers would fill more than a few volumes, but all of the tales I’ve heard about Lukasz are that he is a polite, generous, player who repeatedly puts himself out to help Celtic fans and Poles living here.  Very best wishes to the big guy, I hope we see him back soon.

If you fancy watching Sunday’s game against Kilmarnock in comfort……..  We have secured another pair of Premium Seat tickets for the Jock Stein Stand from Celtic sponsor Magners.  To win the tickets answer the following question:

Which country do Thursday’s opponents FC Astra come from?

  1. Stefan Johanson was asked by a Radio Scotland interviewer….

‘ are u afraid for your safety?’

He said no, when of course he should have said ….

‘ of course I am , given the team I play for , the type of people who live in this country and the record of people employed by this club being attacked’

Fast forward 6 months and despite CCTV , I expect a not proven verdict

  2. Half Time at Glebe Park, Aberdeen 1 Celtic 0. Seems Celtic had the best of it but keeoer slipped when trying to take back pass from Fiacre Kelleher and ball ends up in net for an OG by Fiacre. Hopefully the young Bhoys can turn it around 2nd half.

Regardless of how long, hey went to jail after being found guilty as charged. They were not found not proven, so why would you expect a not proven verdict in the LZ case?

    It’s a straightforward question.

That was Edinburgh, this is Glasgow. I think the Glasgow attack on Neil Lennon, especially as it was in the same street, stands better comparison than the Tynecastle attack.

  8. Marrakesh Express on

Shortbread doing a total hatchet job on Marc Wotte. Maurice Malpas and Tom English not missing him after chucking it three years into his ‘ten year plan’. Meantime Reagan praises Wotte, who was given a £10m budget and a blank cheque for wages.

I read an good article by Andy McLaren recently. He helps run a Glasgow football Friday night league which involves teams from eg Springburn Castlemilk Possil Yoker and Dennistoun. My son worked there with Andy for a year so I watched a lot of games. Any one game would involve thirty boys/men between ages 16 to 23, who train midweek and play Friday. I was very surprised at the level of talent and some were picked up by senior clubs. Around 200 young men who would be doing something else in some of the city’s rougher parts, and as Andy said, figures have been produced to show crime rates dropping in these areas.

So as a thank you, the funding was cut and some teams folded, mainly due to them not affording the school pitches and gyms for training. Marc Wotte would have picked up more in one week than an entire season’s funding costs for the Glasgow league. No doubt crime rates went up again just as another batch of potential talent was lost.

  9. Tom, calm down mate, it was an ironic comment basically to say I’ve no faith in the justice system for either Celtic players, managers or supporters.

And Neil’s Tynecastle attacker was found not proven on the Sectarian assault charge.

Hate to be pedantic but when you googled the Chips web site did you check further down the page to discover that the Chips restaurant is only open to 23:00 on a Sunday or did you just jump in with both feet

Sorry. Not meaning to have a go at you. It’s just that the attackers haven’t even been charged and people are on here predicting that they will get off with it. The SFA have been criticised for not taking action against the attackers. Even Celtic have been criticised for not speaking out against the attackers.

The prevailing mood seems to be that because the victim is a Celtic player, they will get off Scot free. I simply pointed out that Neil Lennon was assaulted in the same street and his assailants were found guilty and sent down.

It’s ridiculous. People need to calm down and let things take their course.

  12. Tom,

    No worries mate, point taken.

It’s natural for us Tims to have a wee but suspicion when it comes to authority, be it the law of the land or the games governing body.

And as we appear to be all au fait with our definitions of criminal matters maybe you would like to give me your definition of robbery

To me it is the crime of theft accompanied by violence or threats of violence

  16. Maybe just maybe big Zaluska has intimated to the policja that he doesn’t wish to take the matter further

I understand the two main protagonist have been interviewed and denied any involvement

An un-cooperative complainer, other people present not prepared to speak up and 2 suspects refusing to make any comment will see the police put the circumstances in front of the fiscal and let him or her decide what course of action is to be taken
