Ref is complete on message. Did you see the thumb up to the Zenit coach/ physio?
Zenit are a poor side, we have gifted them 2 and haven’t been confident enough to take them on.
We can still go through here, Brendan has to work a miracle perhaps, but I’m a dreamer.
NegAnon2 on
Brendan has got it all wrong. His decision to change the team so much against st j has backfired badly. Where we should have had momentum and that team learning to play together he disrupted it. No we have no momentum and what looks like a dispiriting defeat and we are not firing domestically.
Arrogance and a lust for more money in the bank leads to the usual outcome.
It really is quite remarkable how Celtic always conspire to screw up their advantage. Almost like they want to…….

HT….we’ve been poor….some decent possession but no penetration…..not 1 shot or chance….but we’re still in it…..shockingly ;-))

Just acknowledge you made a stupid statement earlier and we can move on.
Disheartening first half to watch, I hate that when we lose a goal before your seat is even warm:((
Brendan has his work cut out at half time but one goal and we’re right back in in it!
Mon The Hoops..

All the revisionists will be saying I always thought Gordon is best. That aside, we are still in this. The game is there for the taking. This is probably our natural level just now, so we should be in with a shout. Forza Celtic.
Gary67 on
We’re actually keeping possession a lot better than we normally do, especially in midfield where we normally give the ball away cheaply. Passes out from the back still slack.
Two gifts, and the other chance for Kokorin earlier in game was also a gift from Lustig I think.
Next goal’s the winner!!!

The ref is a demonstrative fusspot.
Anyone reacting to his decision will be carded.
Players beware.
Only DeVries deserves criticism.
Others are trying but our tactics and system to blame.
Players have been coached into safety first bad habits and it’s difficult to break such.
We have been like this all season.
Possession without any forward direction or purpose.
Right Brendan get them in point out we are still in this game one goal and we are through, we knew we would need to score. Maybe bring TR on as midfield is not clicking at the min
corkcelt on
Biggest disappointment of first half for me was David17. Celtic Supporter my arse.
My change would be Sinclair for McGregor, we need someone to run at the defence, it is too easy for them at present.
De Vries totally at fault for second goal. Martin Bain should start against the Sheep.
Bring on Odsonne to help Moussa as ball is not sticking also consider a change in midfield, ie someone who has forward vision instead of rabbit eyes that only see from side to side and behind ffs. Keeper poor at second goal and not much better at first.

Disappointing so far!

Mate I just ate a jumbo plate of jumbo scampi so I have no moral high ground.
Actually I don’t think he looks sufficiently interested…

I hope we see Bain in goals for the rest of the season. Dorus is one of the poorest shot stoppers I’ve ever seen.
We need to do more offensively. As soon as we get anywhere near their box we seem to be clueless. More individual and collective responsibility needs to be taken to stop this ending up a typical Celtic away in Europe tie.
Where is last weeks self belief?
prestonpans bhoys on
Celtic were playing well until the first goal, no difference from last week. The save to the corner they scored with looked, if left, would have went past the post. Then zenit had control
only to lose it to us later, then within that period or goalie let the ball past him , a goal a 80 year old could save.
Still nope for he second half.

Should have been a red card on HT – guy that took out Kouassi had already been booked. Have we had a shot at goal?
tictaewin on
I dunno the point of us playing the generic ‘defensive away from home euro tie’ style. It doesn’t work for us the same way it seems to pan out for other teams. Away record in Europe has been poor and we are not rich enough to address it.
McPhail Bhoy on
We seem to play with terror away from home in Europe. Ref is another ‘look at me’ clown. How was Zenit left back no booked for blatant shirt pull, he saw it gave advantage and then ignored it!
soukous on
How often in Europe do you see top class teams conceding goals at corners, not very often I would say. This is just a typical away performance in Europe.
First goal we conceded was cheap to say the least , and is exactly why some managers prefer zonal marking. Not me btw . 2 goal was preventable , good strike but if keeper is alert he gets 2 hands to it and it’s stopped. The referee is like an over zealous head master at the high school. A pricks prick. Still in it btw , if ( big if ) we don’t concede, another then last 15 will be interesting. KTF
For all our good support play and our crowding of the middle, we show no bravery in the final 3rd. Once we hit a bottleneck, we produce two long back passes and start again from our Pont Guard CB 15 to 20 yds behind the centre circle.
How we expect to trouble the scorers, I don’t know.
Then, there is the 2 goals. The best header-scoring defender, alongsisde Sergio Ramos, not only breaks free but he breaks into prime position A in the middle of our goals. How do you account for that?
And the Doris’s limp wrists- why even go with just one hand. That ball did not move like the Doumbaya 45 yard goal he conceded vs Killie- it really was much easier to cope with- just get two good arms behind it and it does not go behind you.
It’s the hope that kills. Another long running Scary Movie in the Celtic away Series.
This ref is a twat here in Spain, he is not liked by anyone, a stickler and woe betide you show any dissent, but he is on the big club must go through agenda.
come on the celtic give it socks and hats in the second half …

We’re so predictable, no directness, no threat to worry Zenith. Tonight kinda sums up the season, we’re flattering to deceive and its maybe unsurprising given the injuries, but a concern nonetheless.

We need two, at least. We’ll definitely lose another.

Dorus dreadful
Plenty of passes between the back four

Sinclair on for kouassi

We need to stop the 40 pass half line carry on.
Get in to their third and have a shot. 1goal and we are back in the box seat.
I’d get Sinclair on.
Is deVries actually a goalkeeper? Anyone ever actually seen him make a save? In a game of football?
HAVANALAUGH on 22ND FEBRUARY 2018 6:52 PM
All the revisionists will be saying I always thought Gordon is best.
——————-
“…revisionists…” would imply that many people thought Dorus was better than Gordon – I don’t think that’s the case.
Dorus couldn’t catch the cold – never could, and his kicking is only marginally better than Gordon’s.
As a shot stopper, Gordon is on a different level.
Not out of it by any means but can’t score if we don’t shoot.
Keep feeding Jimmy and KT, probably bring on Edouard, or possibly Sinclair, for Eboue (like him, but he is on a yellow, and skating on thin ice).

If we get anything like a fair crack from the referee in the second half Celtic will qualiy.
Sadly I think that is a big IF ? They are not good and we will have to be more positive.
