Dangers ahead, unimaginable mess and new euphemism

988

I’m still meeting people who haven’t noticed.  Hibernian are on an outstanding run of form, having won their last three games and undefeated in six.  The last reversal they had was at Celtic Park the first weekend in April.  On Sunday we’re playing the team with the best recent form in Scotland; the warning signs are painted in large green font.

They are dangerous up front, Leigh Griffiths has scored four goals more than any Celtic player, including several stunners.

The weight of the world rested on Hibs’ shoulders at last season’s Scottish Cup final, when the stage was set for a century of pain to be wiped away by defeating their greatest rivals.  It was too much.  Now they take the field unburdened and vastly more dangerous than St Mirren, Hearts or Kilmarnock were when they overcame Celtic at Hampden recently.

Odds on Hibs are very generous.

I caught some chat online last night.  “Blackmail”, “extortion”, “imprisonment”, “getting rid of the problem”, “a catastrophe of an intensity that you…. clearly do not appear to understand”, “fraudulent”, “once the genie is out it will have a life of its own”.

What an unimaginable mess.

I think “Been an admirer of your recent work” is bound to become a euphemism in years to come for when something that should never have been said or written slips out.  This is a small glimpse into how the whole thing happened.

Fantastic Q&A with Willie Wallace this morning, thanks to Willie and Winning Captains.  Willie’s recollections of our great times are irresistible.  Reading the book as it came together was a joy.  You’ll love it.

Remember you can start Cup Final weekend by meeting Willie at a book signing at Waterstons’ on Sauchiehall St, tomorrow – 25th May, 46 years on from the day – from 2pm until 4pm.  If you can’t make it you can order a signed copy below.

  7. We’ve beaten far better than Hibs this season. Griffiths is a danger and they’ll be better than last season but it is all about us turning up on the day.

    We have far better players.

No love for Hibs, had a few hairy moments over the years with their fans who seem to detest us.

  8. HenryClarson on

We underestimate Hibs at our peril.

    They can score goals.

On top of that, the pasting they took in the Edinburgh derby final a year ago will make them desperate not to let themselves down again.

This is the toughest opposition we could have for this year’s final.

‘There is absolutely NO team I would be happy to see Celtic lose a SC final to!’

But if you had to lose would you rather lose to Motherwell, Hearts, Kilmarnock etc etc or Hibs?

Before you slip away to more important things, can you please just expand on this comment: “This is a small glimpse into how the whole thing happened”?

Please say a tiny bit more about what you mean here.

  11. Paul

I agree that we should not underestimate Hibs but think you are a tad too generous in your appraisal.

Hibernian are on an outstanding run of form, having won their last three games and undefeated in six

This outstanding run of form involves wins over Dundee, Kilmarnock and Hearts; draws with Aberdeen and St Mirren and an extra-time cup win over Falkirk. Reasonably good, but I won’t go as far as to say “outstanding”.

Leigh Griffiths has scored four goals more than any Celtic player

Not sure that is correct. Griffiths has scored 28 goals this season. Gary Hooper has scored 29.

  12. It should be remembered Hibs’ last five league matches have all been against bottom 6 teams.

If we play like we did last two SPL matches, we should win without too much trouble.

  13. Paul67 – I’m not trying to cause trouble but – I fear CM being played at CH.

CM is best on the LM imo.

I keep thinking back to – Jelly n Ice Cream Sundae when we went to ibrokes to win the SPL Title – CM at CH v’s Sone Aluko !!!

John Collins was right when he said that – Only Gareth Bale has a better left foot than Leigh Griffifths.

Having said all of that – Hibs 1-2 Celtic.

    Hail Hail

  17. Paul67 , not often i disagree with you but the top scorer , in all comps this year is a certain No 88 in the Hoops.

Gary has scored 29 ( 19 league , 6 cup and 4 in Europe) against 28 for Higdon and 27 for Griffiths.

Not sure of games played v goals but Gary is 1 away from a 30 goal season. Oh and KC is 1 away from 20 this year,
