At this rate it will take RD about 5 years to learn how to compete tactically on the European stage. Why are some so determined to hang onto a very average manager who seems unable to learn by his tactical mistakes?
If the board don’t trust RD with another European campaign he has to now with his replacement starting to plan inJanuary for next season. Would love to get hold of that folder John Kennedy is always holding and sketch the basics of how to defend a cross ball on it

Craig Gordon badly beaten at near post for second goal or wrong footed?
My son who is a goalkeeper was cracking up at the game, while I was defending CG.

It was poor from Gordon, especially as the player was left footed, though CG wouldn’t know that. A huge gap was left, if you are going to be beaten then it always has to be at the far post.
CG gets beaten often at the near post. Not been a good season for him despite the excuse of a changed defence in front of him.
Personally…..if I want to go and watch a young team give an older team a good game, but still get beat, I’ll go and watch a pre season under 13s take on an under 17s. When watching Celtic, particularly in European competition, I want an experienced, decent team rip any opponent a new wan……and be proud of it…..a new chorus for “A letter from America?” Fortress Parkhead no more…..

I coach youth football – I’ve fallen for a few Scott Allan’s over the years but I’ve inevitably lost trust in them and ultimately redirected them to a level where they can play without having any pace….

LG had an off night, and after each mistake he tried too hard to rectify. Thousands of strikers before him have done similar. There’s plenty to criticize RD about but this is nonsense.
Happens all the time, to lots of strikers. No big conspiracy of master coaches trying to nobble strikers :O)

It was only a slightly younger team?? I think.
But I’d bet appearance wise Ajax were will ahead of Celtic. Crazy to think only Gordon, Lustig and James would be classed as experienced Euro footballers.

Berget played 4 games for us and scored two goals. He was “lousy” in one game only- the Euro game.
He played well for Malmo against us twice but, to be honest, I was not clamouring to buy him back.
The differences in performance were not as stark as you stated and they are just down to the vagaries of form.

In my original post, I accepted that the result was poor and that the result is the bottom line. I still reserve the right to analyse and differentiate performances as different. If we lose but have played well, I am entitled to feel confidence that we can improve alongside my disappointment with the result. If we have won and played badly, I am entitled to rejoice at the win but worry about our next performance. I do not see all defeats as equally bad and all wins as equally good.
You and others are entitled to disagree with me but not to call my view nonsense.
Its so bad now….and so many people saying “give Ronnie more time” it’s now laughable……especially to mr lawell…….it’s so so bloody sad…….from a feared European force to this garbage…….

That’s not even remotely the case these days. Ten years ago we regularly had between 50 to 60,000 supporters at CP most home match days. These days there lucky if it’s 40,000 and often nearer 30k. The hard reality is that tens of thousands of former supporters no longer support the team. They (myself included) may still have a soft spot for the team but unless you actually go to matches (or contribute in the other ways for overseas supporters) then you no longer support the team.

I think Celtic were 24(ish) and Ajax 22(ish).
As for appearances I’ve no idea. Maybe some will have had more appearances for Ajax than some of our players will have had at Celtic but I doubt first team football appearances will be much different if you take into account appearances for clubs prior to Celtic.
Sat in the San Siro in 1970 said it could not be any worse.
Cup Finals,getting beat by Patick Thistle,and other nonentities,it could not be any worse.
But you know what,that’s football the whistle blows 90/120 minutes later you win or lose.
But what I hate the most are cheats that pull on a Celtic top,and unfortunately we have at present cheats in our club.Get rid off.
