  1. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Now is the time for our board to decide if they are fans or businemen first, Ian Bankier does not come into the first category.

The posters on here who dont like criticism of the board, well, the board have now reached a point where something has to be done and I don’t mean sacking Ronnie.

I’m not having a go at the management and the players, its those who run the club/plc who have the power and hopefully, the desire, to stop the downward spiral we are in with regard to our european status.

The board do not make defensive mistakes nor miss goal scoring chances, but they run the club/plc , they need a change in policy, not reckless spending, to try and improve our reputation inEurope.

Three highlights for me tonight , Calumn’s goal, Scott’s pass Leigh and the Tifo before the game.

Griffiths should be cut some slack… He’s carried the teams most of the season – he will score goals.

    -=======================================================================

    Dead right.

I got the impression that Griff had been told to shoot on sight tonight, rather than going out and doing what comes naturally to him.

    ————-

You don’t really think any coach in the world talks to their strikers like that.

Hey striker don’t look at the general flow of the game, don’t bother playing in a team mate in a better position, just shoot on sight, shoot baby shoot.

  5. CRC,

    your email was definitely hacked.

I got a message saying i was late paying up for something or other,

Thank the Lord there was only seven scots on the field,God forbid if we had eleven. The days of Murdoch,McNeill and Clark are finished.

The useless lot we have now are probably millionaires compared to real Celtic players.

  7. My biggest criticism of Ronny is that we play with one striker. This makes us easy to play against because teams know that if they can isolate Griff we will not score.

Leigh had a poor game tonight but looked knackered at the end. He is asked to do too much IMHO.

These are big moments for Ronny. Just about every man who has gone onto become a great manager has faced moments like this: Jock, Ferguson, Clough, Sacchi… How he reacts is critical.

  8. The Green Man

    “SFTB

You are hairsplitting now….what does the performance matter in any of those games….Molde, Malmo, Ajax…we lost in all of them.

They may have been slightly better tonight…but really, does it matter.”

    Hairsplitting is it?

It was the EXACT point I was making in my original post where i said the performance was good (in the second half) but the result was very poor.

You responded by saying I was talking nonsense and now you are in violent agreement with me.

    But I’m the one hair-splitting??

What does it matter?- not a lot except for a desire to describe things accurately.

Legia Warsaw at Murrayfield was a tragically poor performance and a shocking result.

The losses to Malmo away and both games against Molde were very poor performances and results.

Tonight’s was a dreadful result but a mixed performance- to the extent that any fair judgement of the 2nd half would not grudge us the win.

If you treat every losing result as being just as bad as the others, then why do we still celebrate Seville? Newsflash- we lost.

  9. Glen Daly

Our wage bill more or less guarantees us a place at the UEFA table every year.

If we cut back to Malmo or Molde level then that guarantee goes. So we pay over the odds to sit at that table every year because that is what our supporters demand.

Sensibly we should aim to emulate the wage bill of both and recruit in the same market but risk, like Malmo and Molde, not featuring every season and EL being our level when we do.

I thought both Malmo and Molde well organised clubs and I”d like to know more about how settled a team both started in Europe with. Of course being half way through a season and so being fit and settled helps.

My economics point is that to guarantee a UEFA place every year requires wages that make a difference domestically but come no where near providing the class of player like Sutton, Petrov or Hartson at todays wages who will guarantee a CL place every year.

We find ourselves between a rock of expectations and a hard place of economic reality.

A lot of thoughtful comments, decent insight, drowned in an avalanche of self-centric, unpleasant pish.

Some folk need to take a look at themselves.

    Night all.

  11. At this stage it is pointless to speculate about possible future managers. RD will be with us into the new year unless he resigns, which is unlikely. We shall win the league and with a bit of luck, at least one of the cups. I doubt he will lead us into another European campaign. He is a busted flush now. I suspect there will be little in the way of funds released to him in January. It will be all about getting rid of players in the new year.

It really would be interesting to look at how much we have lost on all of these projects over thelast years. Is it offset by the 12-13 million transfers. In fact, is that what these transactions finance?

I really don`t know, but when a player plays ” out of character ” ie. shoots when a pass is the better option, then I wonder.

I’m no more a true Celtic fan than anybody on cqn

I see small progress in the team

    Through youth

We gave Ajax a great game with a really young team

We could have won the game

    Love giving youth a chance

I’ve read back all the posts on this thread since full time and there’s not 90% agree with you

    Not being pedantic

    Hail Hail

  18. Fanad Patriot

I agree that some of them are not (at least, yet) good enough but we were getting fed up with foreign players (Pukki. Boerigter, Balde & Bangura) disappointing us that we said we would prefer to blood our own youngsters.

    We just did that tonight.

Sometimes, we don’t know what we want- we just know this is not it.

  19. Wanted to give it time before posting.

I thought some players acquitted themselves decently tonight.

    Others were poor.

We had some good individual moments but are sadly lacking as a team.

Thought they played a better version of high tempo pressing game our coach has talked about but has sadly not been able to deliver.

When you only press with one guy the opposite side of the field leaves you an out and thats what they did all night.

Was hard to discern any real shape or structure in our system.

We lack movement off the ball so our guy in possession has zero to few options for pass.

We are a reactionary team so struggle creatively and never attack space in anticipation but wait for obvious pass before moving.

When pass is made the passer usually stops and the recipient stops .gathers and hesitates before playing a backwards and sideways ball.

Eighteen months is plenty time to properly implement a playing system but no real evidence to show.

I think a coaching change is needed be it in personnel or tactics.

Craig Gordon was weak at first but at second i understood why he lost goal at nearpost as he was trying to cover pass to open forward also.

    Lustig -tonight was poor.

    Boyata-decent.

    Simunovic decent.

    Tierney-excellent.

    Forrest.-poor first very good second.

Rogic-poor and gave ball away all night.

McGregor-great goal and unlucky with other effort.Needs coaching.

Armstrong -was good but could be quicker with pass.

GMS- poor first and was having good second till subbed.

    Griffiths-very poor.

Mulgrew-to slow and positionally poor for midfielder.

Scot Allan.-was good with exception of dwelling on ball leading to their goal.

    Izzy-ok

Both goals came from midfielders conceding possession that happens frequently due to the lack of movement around them.

Until we develop a more prroactive style it will always be likely to happen.

  21. SFTB

Id say…that you are in agreement with me…that our recent displays in Europe have been tragic in the extreme.

There is no getting away from that….granted we may have been slightly better tonight, but lets focus on the big picture.

I admire your tenacity in making your point, but results don’t lie, do they?

Usually you are far too sensible for me to argue with….but apathy is setting in, and the failures need addressed, we cant continue to go backward in Europe….because that is our benchmark for a good Celtic team.

I don’t expect us to win anything in Europe, but I believe we should be doing better….because we could not do worse than we are at present.

    Anyway.

    ————-

I think you are wrong here. And it’s bit silly to even suggest it.

But just looking at the game, every time Griff was greedy and shot rather than pass his team mates gave him abuse. Why they’d do that if the coach had told him to shoot on sight?

And at the end of the game Griff looked more disappointed than anyone in the ground. To me that shows a player that knows he’s failed on the night and only has himself to blame.

Nothing points to a coach talking a player, who has been free scoring previously, to change his style for his one game. It’s silly.

  25. The Ronny Deila cheerleaders are beginning to sound like Scientologists on crack.

The Keystone Cops are turning in their graves after tonight’s slapstick calamity.

Ajax are so shite they almost lost to us at our worst in years; one good thing is that the wool’s pulled over their eyes and the rat-faced Hun will keep his job, allowing Feyenoord to take the title off them.

Corner. 88 minutes. Ajax are KEECHING themselves as our big lads roll into the 6 yard box.

The rest belongs on a particularly cheesy episode of Question of Sport, ‘what happened next?’

A manager with control over the dressing room and faith in his system would have seen players respond and launch one into their box.

Instead we get Sunday league improvisation, and there’s no Saturday night hangovers to take the blame. I’ve seen scraps on Sunday League pitches over episodes like that. Totally amateur, totally inept, totally shambolic.

    But, hey – it’s not ronny’s fault.

F#ck, hey – yes it is.

TEN Europa league games and counting without a win. TEN. Europa. NOT Champions League. Eurpoa.

Give it up, bhoys – the Ronny = messiah shtick is beginning to sound like psychotically desperate optimism, like you’re all on uppers. He’s a lovely guy who’s given it a fair crack and has ‘got’ Celtic but his philosophy is flawed, idealistic, and redundant in the face of true competitive class where fanciful systems are broken by basic mano-on-mano weakness.

It’s time to eitehr beat it or take a back dseat Ronny.

If you want galvanisation of support and club, go fetch the King of Kings; could he do any worse?

    Last words on tonight –

young Allan; THAT ball he played Griffiths in with – worth EVERY penny we paid and the absolute reason why he needs game time and a midfield built around protecting him. You cannot covet such vision and speed of thought highly enough; PROPER footballer’s instinct.

It SHOULD have won us the game, if only LG had his wits about him; bad night but he was still unlucky in that moment, credit to their keeper. But PLAY ALLAN ffs.

Defence – they were GOOD. Bullshit spoken on here about backline performances – they stood firm as a ramshackle midfield gave up possession time and time again – big Jozo will come to command that lot well; plenty of excellent interceptions when we looked cut apart.

Charlie Mulgrew- WTF? Was he just acting out how we all felt?

And lastly – I see the manager chose (like Saturday) to switch Forrest from right to left wing either side of half-time. With no regard to how well he was doing against either fullback. Genius…
