  1. We sign cheap scottish players from clubs who get Papped out of Europe at the first qualifying stage and expect them to take us into the Champions League.

    It’s Fkn crazy.

I’ll say it again. The highest payed Celtic employee is Peter Lawwell

He might have lost some weight but he’s not a striker.

  2. Just logged on…not read back…..somebody tell me Ronnies done the decent thing and resigned.

Shocking performance….indefensible ……and if any one says otherwise they’re cuckoo

  3. TBB

BT commentator said Tierney complained of tight thigh. You could see before he went off he was less involved.

Pretty good summing up. I liked the look of Allan and hope Ryan Christie arrives injury free.

Now if we played against teams like Malmo and Molde week in week out we would not have to wait for summer each year to know if we were of moving in the right direction.

MON, big jock, fergie and clough, these guys knew what made their players tick, they worked with what they had and recruited the right personnel based on their character as much as their ability

    —————————-

Though Id agree that those managers could do that, I think that’s a long gone era. MON failed badly in the mega money EPL and is only showing his worth again in the International scene where technically money doesn’t matter.

Money is god now, even at such a low level as us. We waste so much on average players, yet I doubt spending more will solve our issues.

You’d almost get a more positive outcome by going the opposite way (i.e. Malmo Molde) and spending less money on wages and trying to create a ultra tight workmanlike team.

Don’t get me started on WGS final season! I loved him as our manager but if he told the board at Xmas that he was leaving, then that cost us the league. Instead of WGS buying Fletcher we gave the money to Mowbray to buy MAF:(

  6. We really can’t compete with the wages in the Premiership.

Unless you’re Peter Lawwell who is on more than the CEO’s of Southampton and Swansea City combined.

    Check it out for yerself.

  7. The Huddle, that was an obvious answer and I don’t think you have read my post.

We have lots of players on 15k ish a week.

The Seville tream was built on a smaller quality squad with some supporting squad players. If the wages are the same now as then, we can afford to pay a player 35k per week if we chop the Ciftci, boerrigter, Janko etc. We are paying top dollar to Carlton Cole to sit on the bench. Combine his and Citcix salary and target a free signing of some quality.

Just back from Paradise, which used to be a fortress.

Just “small details” but when are we going to wake up?

  9. Sorry 31003, I must be cuckoo but I don’t believe it was a shocking performance. I thought it was a very decent performance from a makeshift team. We were very unlucky not to be leading with 10/15 minutes to go at that stage we had to chase the game and that is when things went wrong.

  10. Neganon2

    Celtci40me I never run away.

    “Goodnight”

Yeah right. Post something then run away to your bed is your textbook passive aggressive coward’s behaviour.

if I didnt know you’d better I’d be disgusted by your accusations that PL accused the celtic fans of racism. As it is I’m not in the slightest bit surprised, he didn’t say anything of the sort, but you’re prepared to use something as inflamatory as that to score points.

    You’re no fan of celtic

  11. Glen Daly

I really don’t know who makes the decisions. Id imagine it’s by some sort of committe.

I know for a fact Ronny didn’t. I know some folk at United. Well. Who were at United

  12. Not sure how to feel after that. Without doubt a far far better performance than against Molde. But the second goal just borders on the criminal, and it really isn’t good enough that a professional team can concede so cheaply for their own corner kick.

Am sure there’s plenty of negatives being discusses, so for me, the positives were:

Simunovic and Boyatta actually look quite good together.

    Tierney is an absolute star.

McGregor and Scott Allan both showed they can be great players for us – but unfortunately both were involved in their goals, Callum with a heavy touch and Allan looking asleep as the ball came to him from the corner.

Forrest tried hard all night, I thought he was really pressuring them just before the second goal.

Apart from that, I’m afraid it was a classic shoot-ourselves-in-the-foot performance from us.

As for Ajax: horrible bunch. Neds for fans and dirty players on the pitch.

  13. Auldheid,

You say the calibre we can afford fail to keep a two goal against Malmo at Celtic Park.

With respect, we can afford a higher calibre than Malmo, than Maribor, than Molde, probably higher than Legia Warsaw too. Now, obviously any team can occasionally lose to a weaker or less expensively assembled team (before you throw Barcelona at me), however, we are now being consistently outclassed and outfought in Europe by teams that, in terms of our budget, we should (more often than not) be beating.

Sooner or later we have to look at tactics, management and quality of recruitment. If the economics are as you say, then if cannot afford to have a striker who cost us £1million sitting on the bench every single week.

  14. the glorious balance sheet on

    Bournesouprecipe

Celtic were not favourites to finish bottom of that EL group. Molde were.

Celtic were 4/1 to finish bottom of the group before a ball was kicked with ladbrokes

  15. SFTB

    Its all about opinions.

I think results in the CL and EL recently show where we are at.

Now…you can either keep getting beat in Europe, or you can try to do something about it.

Also….if you think watching the present team is value for money….you must have plenty of money.

Hoping that RD will turn things round….I think its too late for that.

And another thing….if the board don’t want to invest in the team, why should anybody else?

We have a club where personal enrichment at board level, is more important than the team.

I don’t know who PL and co are trying to fool….but it isn’t working…..which you saw tonight.

    ——————–

    No you are wrong

The Seville team was our most expensive team in history ever (in real terms).

A £35k player in this day in age is no different to a £25k player, we have plenty of £25k players who regularly fail in Europe.

There’s no doubting we can spend our money better, but you assume that every purchase we make will be a success because why?? We spend £35k a week. Football is littered with poor players earning wages above their pay grade (lot of them currently at Celtic).

  17. Pops his head up from behind the couch… What was the score?

    (Only joshing!)

I am going to put my head on the block and suggest that our Euro problems will not be solved by a change of manager or playing staff. It will only be solved by our players being pushed harder and tested more by playing every week in a more competitive league.

That will need more than one other team to be mounting a serious and sustained challenge. It will only be achieved by a move out of the Scottish league, a league ranked by UEFA just one place above Azerbaijan, and below Belarus and Cyprus.

In fact, on the basis of country ranking, Ajax are the only team to underperform in our EL group. The respective country rankings are as follows:

    10 Holland

    11 Turkey

    23 Norway

    25 Scotland

So whilst two of our group opponents are actually ranked lower than Celtic, they are at least stretched on a weekly basis in their domestic leagues.

    That is the key.

Unfortunately we are not going to find ourselves in a more competitive league any time soon, so we had better rein in our expectations…

    (Dives back behind the sofa!)

  18. The decision for the club now is do they think the current management team will get us to the CL next season? 8 months to qualifiers. Do they back the manager and get the experienced players he wanted, and didn’t get, in the summer. Or do they cut their losses and look to bring in someone new before the transfer window opens and see if he can work within a broken strategy?

Does anyone trust those charged with making this decision to get it right?

    I don’t.

  19. Malmo and Molde both have a backbone of experienced players, while tonight’s Ajax was virtually an under 21 side.

What does that mean? I don’t know except that there are many ways to beat us?

  20. the_huddle on 26th November 2015 11:12 pm

i’d agree if ronny didn’t set himself up as that sort of manager

he’s failing to manage a young squad of players in a way lenny didn’t – i see too many celtic players playing without confidence at the moment.

  21. TBB…

    Re Griffs…

He needs a word with Henrik about carrying a team’s hopes!

Henrik had Sutton or someone else to play off, Leigh is left to carry the can on his Jack Jones.

Btw, I’m not comparing them as players as there is no comparison.

  22. PeterLatchfordsBelly on 26th November 2015 10:56 pm Ronny losing it a bit on BT Sport. Not seen him so under pressure. Feel for the lad. Lawwell’s fault for rushing him into a job of this size.

*only because Lenny bailed oot, why, we’ll never know, same as mcsleekit whispering in his ear, those non-disclosure agreements are a bassa.

  23. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

How long is a transition? If Ronny stays I’m saying it will be 5 years

  24. herbo, you said we sign cheap scottish players, i take it you mean Stuart Armstrong,Gary Mackay Stevens and Scott Allen?

Why should someone get up at 5 in the morning when their transport doesn’t leave till 8

Maybe to get a few cans of Kestrel in before a dry bus run up the A9 :)
