  1. Ajax had chances when we changed tactics and started chasing the game which we had to. I wonder what people would be saying if we defended stoutly and came out with a draw.

We did OK tonight but Griff had a mare.

I’m proud of our team but I’m not proud of some supporters on here. I understand anger and disappointed but wee George has more Celtic in his little finger then the vast majority of us.

  2. Saint Stivs on 26th November 2015 10:50 pm

    ——

That it one of the weird things.

As Mike Tonto mentioned earlier I think.

We were unfit in Lenny’s final years, then Ronny came and we looked mega fit against other Euro teams, loads of running, then this season we look dead on our feet. It’s a strange one.

  3. David Moyes???

You think Paradise is empty just now…..

    Good God In Govan, Really?

If that excuse for a manager turns up I’ll buy a season ticket for what ever turns up in Govan FFS.

have to agree with a previous poster

we should get david moyes now

    -=========================================

    Or almost anybody.

I happen to think we have a great squad of international players and some great prospects.

  5. Many Celtic supporters headed for the exit when the Ajax winner went in. Usually one guy starts it and others follow in his footsteps. Tonight we can name the guy who started the exodus – C Mulgrew who is probably on about £15,000 a week. Hope he’s never seen again in Paradise.

    Well said Paul

  6. the glorious balance sheet on

    St stivs

Sutton commented on the players again looking knackered after 65 minutes.

It’s been a feature of all the European games this year.

I don’t think Scott Allan was to blame for their goal. It was an idiotic decision by Armstrong to play the short corner and the Ajax player read it well

  7. Certainly a disappointing result tonight, but that is not the whole story. Look at the Europa Group tables. We have equalled the most goals conceded. Only one team, Groningen has less points than us;and two other teams have equalled our points total….Rosenberg and Qabala. Look at the names of other teams that have acquired more points than we have…..Pizen, Midtylland, Liberec, And the powerhouse… Belenenses!

Do we just draw a line this and move on to the next match where we might get a result? Surely there needs to be consequences for under performance such as this?

    Rebus

  8. Davie Moyes

    LOLZ

Fk me wi a ragmans trumpet!

That’s all we need. A team hard to beat in the SPFL.

Anyway. There’s not a snowballs chance in hell our board will pay Moyes’ wages. And he’s shite!

  9. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Ronny losing it a bit on BT Sport. Not seen him so under pressure. Feel for the lad. Lawwell’s fault for rushing him into a job of this size. Ronny doesn’t demonstrate any understanding of the level of expectation sorry to say. He’s a good man that doesn’t deserve this level of aggro.

  10. Jerry Cornelius on 26th November 2015 10:17 pm I remember being pumped out of europe by Zaschenring Zwicau when BJ was the manager

*whits this BJ talk, and when we lost to the east German side Sean Fallon was in charge.

  11. TGBS

Agreed! I didn’t know who it was at the game. Terrible decision.

The whole defence came up for the cross, we needed a goal. What the Fk was he thinking?

  12. Yip we create loads of chances and miss them.

That’s what you get from a striker bought as backup who knows he can’t outrun a defender.

3 perhaps 4 times Griffiths looked slow and checked back with only 1 man to beat.

The club see that and see fit to buy a cart horse.

The wages are allegedly the same as Seville. It’s simply shocking that we have an accumulation of players taking salaries that amount to that same total figure. The arithmetic can only mean we are paying lots of dross a high average. Otherwise how do you explain Larsson on a reported 35k? Sutton , Hartson, Petrov, Baldie on 28k a week. Lambert the highest paid coaching student in Europe…

McGregor scored a great goal but didn’t have a good game. His poor first touch again letting him down.

I wanted us to sign GMS and Armstrong. I have no idea why we signed Ciftci. I think I held out a thin hope that he was a backup that would lose a couple of stone and come good. Gms was a good value no cost signing who may well come good. Armstrong is being played in the wrong position due to our formation and favoured personnel.

We can only fix this by changing the coach and the recruitment. If the board refuse to change these things they should be removed. One of the existing board must have some ambition or actually support Celtic surely?

  13. the glorious balance sheet on

Zwickau reached the semi final that year beating panathinaikos and fiorentina as well as celtic

  14. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Apart from Lustig, I thought our defence played well.

Two goals lost from midfield mistakes, Calum’s touch on a poor pass from ML was heavy and Allan loosing the ball on their 18 yard line left us exposed, when we had to chase the win.

We should have been out of sight if the real Leigh Griffiths had turned up.

The last(only) time I saw a Celtic player do something similar to Mulgrew, was Chris Sutton at Ibrox, when he chucked it and deliberately got a second yellow.

  15. SAINT STIVS on 26TH NOVEMBER 2015 10:52 PM

heard at the game that the ajax hoolies attacked the hoops bar before the game , is that true

I wouldnt be a celt in town tonight, get home safe bhoys, these animals are out for blood.

    NEGANON2 on 26TH NOVEMBER 2015 10:52 PM

Caltomtongs I don’t mind your anger. But don’t be lazy. I am around after ins too. But you lot just choose to forget that.

    ===============

What kind of a response is that?

It wasn’t an after in, it was before the game.

St Stivs, it was the Emerald they attacked, BT, his brother and cousin were in there and that aresehole Neganickers is talking about Bayoneting US? Really? Oh Aye, Words Hurt!

  16. The Battered Bunnet on

Charlie Mulrgew was injured and unable to run. He came off with Ronny’s consent, in some respects justifying the decision not to start him (which would hve been a folly).

Some folk need to seek the facts before they react. Quite embarrassing comments from some.

Haven’t heard about Tierney though some folk are saying he had been injured. It would have been quite inexplicable ootherwise.

Looking at the game, we played very poorly for 5 minutes at a time, then found a move and created a chance. It was quite unusual, the flip between ineptness and guile.

No idea what happened for their first goal beyond McGregor’s awfull touch and a deflected shot that fell kindly for Ajax, and their second was an injustice for Scott Allan, who had done some very good things in the short time he was on, the pass for Griff being the best of them.

Griff himself seemed to be consumed by the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders, was mostly in the pocket of the defenders, and when the chances came he fluffed his lines, each attempted finish seemed worse than the last, and it got to the point where he knew he was beaten before he’d even got the ball. He needs a word with Henrik about carrying a team’s hopes.

Pleased for Forrest and GMS. GMS didn’t play well in the 1st half, but started to show up in the second half after what has been months of mediocrity. Forrest played their full backs very well and is perhaps starting to emerge after a long time of anonymity.

Our centre mids aren’t good enough footballers to play the short, tight game thats required in Europe. Each could become a player, but none of them is yet. Much work to do.

Better defending by Boyata and Simunovic tonight. I woudn’t hold my breath on the pair of them, but there are positive signs that they can do it.

The reality in all of this though is that we continue to watch the same show, the same story. 2 points from 5 matches; 1 point from 3 games at home; taking the lead and blowing it. I see progress in some players, and in some aspects of the team’sapproach to the game, but not in the results. The path downwards, the pattern is regressive.

I listened to Ronny’s post match press conference, half admiring his honesty, half regretting his confidence.

Tom English referred to Ronny’s post match comments as too much in a long sequence of ‘jam tomorrow’. I can’t disagree with that.

And the problem is, unless there’s some implosion at the club over the next few months, we won’t know if Ronny’s team truly is progressing as he promises until next July and August when we tune in again for another episode of Deila’s European Nights. Will the script have been rewritten by then, or will we get the same old repeats?

There’s absolutely no way to know.

On Moyes, I’d quite like a team that was hard to beat in Europe!

Someone like WGS you mean?? If only we had a manager like him, no way Celtic fans would turn against him.

RED CARD FOR CLUNKS ME THINKS???

    ————————–

    Surely just a yellow card??

And one for you for being unsporting and asking for a card??

  19. I’m still not for the one up front, a few times Leigh was on his lonesome with nowhere to go or who to pass to, it’s ok saying it’s the way the top teams play now…we obviously aren’t a top team and need a rethink on this concept.

On a positive side, it was great meeting up with some cqners in the BV.

I’ll let praecepta or skyl expand on our first meeting with 16 roads :))

  20. Moyes is the last coach we need, well maybes Owen Coyle then.

Dearie me, and you actually think you know something about football,Moyes FFS.

    Canman

Lenny left for a multitude of reasons, sadly he won’t be back, not until the present suits in situ are gone.

  21. The Glorious Balance Sheet

The economics explain why we don’t have players of the calibre of the 3 guys commentating who would have coped with Molde and Malmo.

The calibre we can afford fail to keep a two goal lead at CP v Malmo. Give away a goal when 2 up v Fernebace.

Give away a goal tonight when one up and fail to put away the kind of chance Ajax did when they broke.

We had a midfield that needed introduced to each other tonight.

Against Molde the game turned on an early injury and poor headed clearance and the clearer turned his back on the consequent shot.

Churn, lack of consistent selection all play their part.

If you pay for really good players they stay longer are usually stronger physically and mentallyb and don’t make as many unforced errors.

So don’t dismiss economics for being the underlying cause of why we are not masters in Europe. It is clearly a factor.

Is RD the answer? I understand why we hired him but any manager who operates under the policy Celtic follow which is dictated by economics will struggle.

Cut down the churn, get consistent selection and maybe get lucky on the injury front.

  22. Despite the result I enjoyed the game tonight. Better than the usual dirge served up at CP most weeks of the season. Ajax were the far better team in the first half and luckily for us their final ball was lacking. Thought we shaded it on the second and overall had the best chances. As one of those pre match who asked what McGregor brought to the team, wel. We saw tonight that he’s not a bad central midfielder. So why has he been stuck out on the wing? Didn’t expect us to win given the absentees but we played a lot better than I imagined we would. Tierney MOTM for us again, Simunovic looks like PL’s next bonus and Allan, despite getting caught out for second goal, looks like what we need to unpick defences. His pass to Griffiths was the best I’ve seen from one of our players since Henderson for Guidetti v Inter.

  23. the original plan was to bring della in as a #2 and develop him from there! that would have been the perfect intro for ronny , give him time to learn what is expected of a celtic team and let him feel how the club is perceived in scotland. He was fast tracked at great risk to himself and celtic.

Secondly , John C has a history of poor man management – i just don’t think the harmony is there!

we need experience in that dressing room asap!!

  24. Poor night in Paradise.- with the exception of the level of support in the stadium

Plenty of Celtic whipping bhoys, – take your pick.

Sutton, Petrov, and Hartson didn’t hold back in the highlights show, and were quick to point fingers to the top.

Ronny Deila with the budget we have, is only where any other aspirational young manager would be, a more defensively cautious coach would do better IMHO but not by much, particularly against teams from most other European leagues.

The open ‘expansive’ game was a loser against Legia, inexpensive players can’t do a ‘Barca’ not even in the EL.

The business model is the problem, sack Ronny Deila now with Europe as the yardstick, and we will have a new manager every season we don’t get to the CL, and still get pummelled in the EL. Every player he’s signed looks exactly what they are ‘budget buys,’ ( Jozo Simunovic excluded )

A poor, by their standards Ajax are in the same boat

When the draw was made Celtic have as predicted finished where pundits and the bookies placed them, at the bottom.

Onwards to Inverness where Leigh Griffiths will probably magically re-discover what all Celtic strikers should do.

    M.O.M Simunovic

  25. I know for a fact that Ronny Deila had no say in signing the 3 Dundee United players.

Believe me or don’t believe me.

    It’s a fact!

  26. Saint Stivs

Grifftiths hasn’t got the confidence to do it in europe, its a shortcoming all our scottish players seem to suffer from. Ronny’s spent so much money and time and effort on scottish players with potential he needs to start getting it right with a few of them at least, its what he was brought in to do. GMS is a shell of what he should be, you don’t have to be sigmund freud to see what makes him tick.

MON, big jock, fergie and clough, these guys knew what made their players tick, they worked with what they had and recruited the right personnel based on their character as much as their ability

  27. Wages being the same as Seville is irrelevant. In real money footballing terms that is probably a 75% cut. Sutton, Larsson, Lennon, Hartson, in today’s market would probably be commanding a combined wage in the region of £250k per week.

  28. mullet and co 2 on 26th November 2015 10:59 pm

No it means that in football today the Seville money buys you average players at best.

  29. Big Georges Fan Club – Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on 26th November 2015 10:40 pm

Hello this is WEE BGFC. Also I dont suppose any of the boo-boys who are suposedly “Celtic fans” will be getting up at 5:00 in the morning to go to Inverness on Sunday to SUPPORT Celtic.

*well said son, what happened to the faithfull through and through.

The “diggers” should be along shortly with their words of wisdom, heated driveways absentee landlords etc.

  30. The players look knackered because they knacker themselves out. If you constantly sprint at high speed it takes a top player to pass well while fatigued. If you are already knackered and don’t pass that well when your heart rate is down in the low 100s it’s unlikely you will be successful at 180 beats per minute. Result, you give the ball away then chase it ad naseum.

  31. Auldheid

    Agree

Charlie had a run in with wgs

Now he’s straight into the Scotland team with broony if fit

Always talking about “being a good team mate” if off form or struggling

    We owe him that

    Hail Hail

  32. The Green Man

I watched the same game as you- I was at the park- you?

You claim to disagree with me but don’t detail your disagreement.

I say Ajax won the first half and Celtic won the second- do you disagree?

Yes, Ajax, had a few late chances in the final 5 minutes when we were chasing the win and throwing caution to the wind because a draw was no use to us. If the pressure of the game was reflected in the scoreline it should have been 3:1 to Celtic when they had their late chances, or not had them because our defensive set up would have been different.

That’s the game I saw. Decent performance- horrible result. Anybody watching through a TV screen will have seen a different game. Some reactions show frustration getting in the way of judgement- a cut finger is as bad as a lopped of head to them. Tonight, Celtic were a lot better than the games against Molde and Malmo but our result was just the same. If you cannot see the difference- I can be of no further help to you.

  33. What can I say, we were exposed for what we are, second rate with a chance we could become third rate. If the Club and the PLC think that’s where we belong let them come out and say that we have reached our level, the fans will decide if they are prepared to accept that or not.

There is a major disconnect between what the PLC’s ambitions are and what the fans expect.

Are we being drawn down by the PLC to a level that will provide a challenge to Sevco when they reach the top league?

What influence on the PLC does “Draw a large circle around a universe of relevant reference points” have?

When Keech Jackson played with the words “PL is a master of his craft and knows his way about the ring” what gives?

I’m hurtin’ tonight like most Celtic fans trying to understand what is going on at our club.

Are we really the same as THEM?

For me there is a void to be bridged and if I see no progress towards that bridge I will not be renewing my season ticket.
