So stressed Juninho & film productions get an airing

689

Interesting angle in today’s Telegraph: “Celtic are the only club in Scotland, apart from Rangers, who are known to have used an EBT contract”. Why are we part of this conversation?  Despite the millions of words written on the subject of EBTs over the last six years, there appears to be a curious misunderstanding about them.

Juninho arrived at Celtic with an EBT from earlier in his career. Celtic funded this Trust around the time the player left the club, informed HMRC about the transaction, and paid the tax due. No side letters (contracts) were issued with regard to this Trust. No information was hidden from HMRC or football authorities.

The conversation went a bit like this:

Celtic: Hi HMRC, Celtic here.  We’ve paid Mr Juninho’s EBT £Xk.  What is our tax position?
HMRC: £Yk tax is due on that payment.
Celtic: Thanks.  Will pay today.

EBTs are in themselves not illegal, nor even immoral. They were introduced to allow employers a framework to give loans to employees.  Many employers, formally or informally, give loans to employees to cover everything from crises to Christmas expenses.  Or migration expenses, which is occasionally the case in football.  That some use EBTs to attempt to put income beyond the reach of taxation is a reflection on those clubs, not others who openly declare EBT payments to HMRC and pay any corresponding tax.

The newspaper goes on to offer a defence against HMRC, almost as though it was dictated from David Murray himself: “it is believed that one argument against the supposition that Rangers secured players by means of EVTs (sic.) is that a range of variable inducements were in operation at that time and not only at Ibrox.

“Other avoidance schemes involved investment in such vehicles as film production companies and forestry development.”

Yes, a range of other inducements were available – legal ones.  Other people legally used other schemes.  It’s clarity of thought like this being a defence of Rangers that which put them into such a mess to begin with.

Delighted to read Rangers Tax Case back with such insight last night.  Catch up with him here if you missed it.

  1. It’s saying in the press etc today that Manchester city parent company is now valued at £3 billion.

It really is a different level. Must be fantastic for city fans. Not much fun for everyone else, but great for them..

I know money doesn’t buy success or at least guarantee success – but it must help a wee bit.

  2. Still trying to work out who got assaulted in the Brazen and everyone knows teachers loose their job if they get convicted, therefore unlikely to hit back, just adding two and two and getting five but it wont stop me trying to work out who you assaulted. It confirms opinions that you are a violent bully.

  3. I have found it difficult to come on to the blog recently because of so much abuse being aimed at certain individuals. From my point of view the worst insult that I recall is that TD called some Celtic Supporters “Stormtroopers”. Surely to equate Celtic supporters with the hordes of Nazis creating havoc and destruction throughout Europe was just an insult too far. Those of us who lived in Europe after the war years know how the citizens felt about Stormtroopers.

HT. There those of us who are not involved in any organisations other than being Celtic Supporters do value the work you do in so many fields, and not just for Celtic causes. Keep up the good work mate.

Not sure if I will continue to post. Things are getting out of control on here and one has to ask questions about the reasons for some of the tidal Waves being made by the few.

One last point, thanks to all those who made the difficult journey to Inverness. You really are true Celtic supporters. I know there are reasons why many cannot get to away games, but you lot do keep the flame burning for the rest of us. Real supporters who hopefully do not read the Daily Record.

  4. Should the fact that the TAX on Juninhos EBT was paid by the club (even though it was a pre existing EBT from Middlesborough) not strengthen our argument irrefutably, in a game, set and match kind of way AND be referred to EVERY single time the dark side and their cohorts in the SMSM raise it.

HaHa lady C, reckon Tony D would find that funny as well.

Just trying to contain the argy bargy… It’s time some stood back and regain some solace.

We have a Hun mob on our doorstep, shouldn’t that be our directive, rather than the in fighting!

I really don’t know what to make of John James. At first I thought he was someone from Ashley’s camp putting stuff out there, but would Ashley really be that bothered stooping to that level when he has lawyers on tap ? He says that he’s friendly with McMurdo so will be a hun then, but some of his stuff whether you believe it or not is totally anti King and the current rangers board going back to murray.

Would be interested on anyone else’s view of him and the blog he writes…

  8. Just listened to the radio scoddland podcast from last night, wow Anthony Stokes was getting it big time from English !!!

  9. Another clincher is the fact that the SFA were aware of it as it was declared I.e there was NO side letter.

    HH again.

Ps Latest from Rangertaxcase blog an absolute belter. Succinct and to the point.

    Did td assault another poster?

    Shameful if true!

And also if true he should kicked out of here today.

Is Paul67 aware of all of this?

  11. West End of East End on

McCall & Tanner on SSN about to make the draw, who”s betting the huns get a home draw ?

  12. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Why is TD67 public enemy number one he has strong views which some might not agree with he might also be a bit near the bone with his replies and that is because he believes he is only giving back what he receives? However? he is one poster being hounded by several posters.Maybe if you called a truce and say made it 12 hours before both sides post to each other call it a cooling off period. We might see the blog return to normal and Paul67 can be let in peace we are adults after all. H.H.

  13. WEST END OF EAST END….

I’ve been reading johnjames blog since he started.

Hunmedia had a thread on him, outing he was a Tim.

I’ve also read he goes to the games with McMurdo.

TBB, mentioned that the information he blogs is dubious, he seems to have got it right on numerous occassions and holds Philmac in high esteem…make of that what you will. HH

  14. So you did assault another poster.

    Did he deserve it?

Did he bring it on himself?

    Are you proud of yourself?

No, digs, no insults, perhaps we could discuss the matter here. It is an open forum after all.

And don’t tell me what to do.

  15. Joe Filippis Haircut on

PHILBHOY. Calm down fella I am sure if TD67 assaulted anyone it is his business and not something that should be discussed on an open forum. I do not agree with violence but understand there are many reasons it can happen that is not an excuse just a fact of life. H.H.

Why is TD67 public enemy number one he has strong views which some might not agree with he might also be a bit near the bone with his replies

He’s not public enemy number 1 as far as i’m concerned pal.

I jumped in to ask a member to ask TD outright if he done what he was suggesting he done, rather than go through a 3rd party for a reply.

  17. Joe Filippis Haircut on

This witch hunt against TD67 and that is what it is in my eyes was bad enough but now getting real personal and bringing up an assault that may or may not have happened is out of order in my eyes. How low do some of you posters want to go in order to belittle another poster ? H.H.

  18. JFH,

It was raised on here last week that TD violently assaulted a CQN’er, why or how does that not involve the blog, if it was not for CQN neither would have come across each other and but for CQN it would not have happened.

You see it raises the question about the safety of CQN’ers at hoot n nannys and the likes, TD is known for inviting people to come meet him in the Brazen to sort out differences.

So I disagree completely that it’s a personal thing it concerns all CQN’ers.
