The instant football changed

326

Had your fill of international football for the year? Good. Let’s get on with business. Delighted Mark McGhee’s back in football, and at Motherwell. I had a soft spot for Mark back in the days, ‘Hammer of the Hearts’, as he was.

By watching Mark McGhee you saw a profound change take place in the game. Until the mid-80s it was possible to get by in the game aligning brute strength with decent levels of skill, as Mark had, or even sublime skill with compulsive inertia, which was enough for Charlie Nicholas to carve out a career for a while.

Almost in an instant the game changed. Mark was praised (and valued) with the most unflattering chant, Nicholas was finished after the debacle of Raith Rovers. Not that he’s bitter.

Best of luck to big Mixu too. I’m long on record saying we don’t need a ‘strong Rangers’ (sic.), but the flip side of this is that we do need teams like Aberdeen and United meeting the grade.

Murray Capital Group posted a £13.6m pre-tax profit. I’ve been writing about this wolf in wolf’s clothing for long enough to know the script with this matter.

I know many CQN’ers have helped Glasgow the Caring City over the years. You should take a look at the work they carried out with Syrian and Afghan refugees in Serbia this month. If you are on Facebook, give them a like here.  It helps the volunteers to know their efforts are appreciated.

Then maybe ask older Celtic fans what they know about Novi Sad, it’s a story worth telling, even 48 years on.

  1. Good evening cqn,

I must confess I struggle with all the complaints of the antic Celtic racist bias on display every day here.

During the referendum I remember many folk on here denying any such thing?

    Fickle csc?

Interesting that the BBC story includes the tale of Police Scotland keeping an investigation of one of their officers beating his elderly parents in house, are they allowed to do this?

The parents didn’t press charges, but IMO the copper should have been disciplined.

Also if a 20-odd stone fella had assaulted to their severe injury two elderly people-family members or not-I think the police would have strongly pursued criminal charges.

    Under normal circumstances of course…

My own opinion, and I won’t have time to back it up tonight, is that guys like you and TonyD are ruining CQN.

I’ll argue with anyone, as I have done on here many times. However, I also think I’m adaptable when I think others make a relevant point.

TonyD is a board sycophant and has openly said that he won’t criticise PL and those in charge at Celtic. He also makes frequent sly digs against those of us who are actively involved in issues which concern Celtic and the Celtic support.

You on the other hand are equally obstinate and rarely do you mention anything positive about our club.

In my humble opinion you’re both suffocating genuine debate and meaningful dialogue.

Until it changes cqn will continue to wither and posts decrease.

  7. You’ve got to wonder about any workforce that would allow someone like that to continue working alongside them.

  8. Have to say the BBC naming the policeman is very suspect. This could be a real detriment to getting justice for the victim.

BMCUW, it’s telling that the polis’ s own family seemed to have been unhappy with the decision not to follow through with the assault charge

Think NZ are a good bet at 5/4 to win the rugby. Have a very good head to head against S Africa, and even better against Oz, whom they are scheduled to meet in the final……unless Scotland spring a shock. No chance.

You are being rather kind to T.D. saying he has sly digs. They are full in your face digs when it comes to the trust. The trust,in my opinion, do sterling work, long may that continue.

I think a lot of posters have been lost because of the name calling. If you give an opinion, instead of debate about the rights our wrongs, you are called names and this comes from some of our educated posters. After a while you think what’s the point.

I notice a few comments about the rumours about The Aberdeen manager and a wag, I notice none of the blog police have came in and made comments about gossip and fishwives etc, so I guess that’s allowed because he’s The Aberdeen manager, mmmm, but heaven forbid if someone puts anything up about a Celtic player. It’s more like The Celtic news/ Pravda every day.

  19. it’s the objective of the sleekits to poison the well of the CQN blog…..the Club itself probably not the primary target……As a focus for Celtic opinion it has attracted the attention of those who have no feeling for our community imo and very probably represent the worst of the dark side.

Thankfully CQN is now bigger than the blog commentary but the malign activities of the weel – kent

“character(s)”….will make itself felt here more strongly in the awful fallow periods of international activity.

BTW both Tony and Neganon imo are undoubtedly Celtic Supporters……but with strong particular….. genuine…………………. opinions…………….It’s the sleekit(s) who exploit any opportunity to do our club down but never, ever join in with the light -hearted aspects of the blog or join in with the celebratory antics of a good result or great performance that draw the eye….

When our Club’s greatest anthem is used more as a threat rather than a promise of solidarity, you have to wonder…….

No offence to Paul or WC, but I am not thankful for that.

I would rather we still had a lively and diverse blog as we did up to not so long ago (which was unique), and dispense with the news story section (which isn’t).

I’m guessing the final straw for a lot of people is the wearisome battle with pop-up, background, intrusive ads.

I was told onscreen tonight that one of my “favourite sites” is now Casino 888. Never been in a casino, or on a casino website, in my life, detest them, so thanks for that.

  23. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

It’s patently obvious that the number of posts has slumped dramatically recently.

There could be a number of reasons,we can argue about the validity of each. That would be nice, tbh, make a change from apathy.

We can even discuss the quality of posts, the breadth of topics,etc-have they too fallen off the radar?

Not for me to say-your call, each and every one of you.

What can’t be argued is that there is a huge number of people who posted their thoughts on here-and took the plaudits and brickbats for having the temerity to do so-but no longer do.

It’s not my place to eulogise nor condemn,I’ve thoroughly enjoyed most of my time giving and taking on CQN.

    BUT …

I have serious doubts about its future,as things are right now.

    And that’s a bloody shame.

  24. Greenie…..

Hopefully some tech advice can resolve your issue……….?

I’m probably the least able tech wise and haven’t suffered any of the pop up issues that a few have mentioned, thankfully.

I guess the blog has to make its own way commercially to an extent.

Hope you get the issues resolved.

  25. CQN posting figures mirrors Celtic Park – plenty of people got a season ticket, but don’t always choose to show up. Some blaming the lack of quality posts on show, others blaming PaulLawwelll67 for the corporate sellout. But some real loonballs think we need a strong Sevcomedia.
