The instant football changed

326

Had your fill of international football for the year? Good. Let’s get on with business. Delighted Mark McGhee’s back in football, and at Motherwell. I had a soft spot for Mark back in the days, ‘Hammer of the Hearts’, as he was.

By watching Mark McGhee you saw a profound change take place in the game. Until the mid-80s it was possible to get by in the game aligning brute strength with decent levels of skill, as Mark had, or even sublime skill with compulsive inertia, which was enough for Charlie Nicholas to carve out a career for a while.

Almost in an instant the game changed. Mark was praised (and valued) with the most unflattering chant, Nicholas was finished after the debacle of Raith Rovers. Not that he’s bitter.

Best of luck to big Mixu too. I’m long on record saying we don’t need a ‘strong Rangers’ (sic.), but the flip side of this is that we do need teams like Aberdeen and United meeting the grade.

Murray Capital Group posted a £13.6m pre-tax profit. I’ve been writing about this wolf in wolf’s clothing for long enough to know the script with this matter.

I know many CQN’ers have helped Glasgow the Caring City over the years. You should take a look at the work they carried out with Syrian and Afghan refugees in Serbia this month. If you are on Facebook, give them a like here.  It helps the volunteers to know their efforts are appreciated.

Then maybe ask older Celtic fans what they know about Novi Sad, it’s a story worth telling, even 48 years on.

What have we to reply to?

I could not see any question in your post.

I agree with the replies given. Everybody’s posts do not generate a response every time they post. Equally, no-one gets deliberately ignored. If you are prepared to keep posting even though your first couple of attempts did not generate anything, you will eventually get a reply.

Just check back tonight and see how many posts just got noted without any response- I had, at least, two myself. It is annoying when you ask a factual question and no one helps you out but, when you post an opinion, the lack of a typed response does not mean it was not noted or worthwhile. The blog would get bogged down quickly if everyone online felt an obligation to respond to every post.

Now, want question did you want answered? Give us a clue.

As you probably are aware I’m fixated by stats on site visits etc.

When I was gainfully employed we used to have a wee unofficial competition with other product lines to measure visitors to our pages.

Being Scottish I wasn’t ever happy with being second. So I used to send particular links to my son who is in IT. He and his coworkers would use a proxy server to visit my pages and add to my totals.

Anyway, when you say unique CQN visits, do you mean visitors to the blog or visits to the various articles AND the blog?

  12. Morning all.

The old “red sky at Morning” for the second time in 3 days. I hope it turns out like Tuesday. Beautiful it was. Mind you, it was beautiful yesterday too. 3 in a row? Could be. Cold, right enough.

Beautiful doesn’t seem to be the atmosphere on CQN at the moment. Hope it improves.

Morning Bhoys it is a misty old morning here in Central Scotland it could make for a nice day later. H.H.

  14. Perhaps the decline in posts has something to do with the ‘new-look’ CQN, complete with adverts coming atcha from all directions.

One of the reasons I used to prefer this forum to others was its untroubled, simple format, in contrast to many other Celtic sites (this morning I clicked a link to Video Celts, and after 5 pop-ups my PC sprouted legs, scuttled across the desk, grabbed a staple gun and is now angrily demanding breakfast).

It probably puts the site on a more profitable trajectory, but the atmosphere has evaporated somewhat. Sound familiar?

I’m entering a modest plea for a return to an older version of CQN.

  15. Some really good posts last night.

Good morning. Ess Pee Eff Ell action back tomorrow night :-). Then the Hoops on Saturday. I have got severe withdrawal symptoms. Visiting the Outlaws with Mrs HAG in Luton over the weekend :-(((. Dumped Sky in protest a few months ago, but have to confess I retained my BT Subscription, as I managed to retain it all, including ECL for a fiver, and worried about withdrawal symptoms, as I don’t manage any trips to Paradise anymore. So it will be iPad in the garden or toilet on Saturday. As long as it’s a positive result, I’m happy.

I post on CQN because I fee I want to air a point of view sometimes I get a reply but most often I dont.I dont mind either way.I dont manage due to poor health to attend any CQN get togethers so I am a stranger to most of the posters on the blog and accept many posters know each other and attend various CQN events. Thus they are more likely to reply to each others posts I dont know if the quality of the posts has dropped or not and I suppose that is a matter of opinion but I think CQN is a first class Celtic blog and I thank Paul67 for its existance.H.H.

  18. I reckon people are logging on and then being waylaid by all the wonderfully generous offers of instant wealth proffered by the bookies.

That’s why there’s footfall but no posts.

In a way CQN is mirroring Celtic Park. As the place looks ever smarter and shinier and slicker so the substance on the park is diminishing.

I haven’t had the difficulty with adverts on my Mac but I have had technical problems accessing from an android phone. I think those issues plus the absence of a Celtic game, especially one where we lost (last happened over a month ago) has dampened the ardour of the die hard miserabilists who like to have something to moan about. I expect normal service might be resumed if we fail to get anything out of the Molde game a week today

I agree, particularly about the Molde game, I’m already getting it in the work about that game.

    etc….

What folk sometimes dont get is that….like Celtic FC….CQN needs a right guid kick up the @rse every now and again…imho.

    Tin helmet time….

Celtic Park is haulf empty coz….the huns died and took the edge off what constitutes the ‘make-up’ of being a Celtic supporter.

CQN is an extention of that apathy….imho.

All of this could have been prevented if…..folk had voted for the formula to punish the huns which was suggested by Hugh Keevins….keepthe huns in the same league as Celtic but, with a penalty of 20 points per season deducted and….at least £10 million per season to be paid back by the huns, until the “140 million that they stole was paid back.

As it turned out…the huns kept all the trophies that they stole….paid hee-haw back of all the money that they stole and…will be back in the same league as us next season having shafted all before them and will, do so again….know why?….coz, nobody has the cojones to put them away for good.

    Bye Tims…..off oot. YNWA.

  26. Looked in on Saturday for an hour at High St and made most welcome by Clogher,Hamilton,G64 and DD….really nice fellas and obviously Celtic minded doing all they can to ensure that the club continues its proud history despite hijack efforts, internally and externally, from all sorts of sources ranging from SPFL,Police Scotland and MSP’s who I find particularly ignorant yet very powerful.

So more power to the fellas who challenge these ‘authorities’,it is important they do,as to remain passive would not bode well for the future of Celtic.Re the blogs’ demise……having read only since ‘the Amsterdam 5 (6) ‘….there is a limit to how much you can start your day on a regurgitation of all things anti Celtic via our intrepid posters who purchase papers that are active in their incessant attacks on all things Celtic. For balance purposes,I also think that the exposure Phil has had since 2012 has resulted in more attention than is necessary on them thus giving our own board quite an easy time (I know there are sterling efforts ongoing, more strength to those involved) .

    Clogher,cheers for the poster.

Aye,mate. In hindsight, that might have been a better idea than relying on due process.

You know, the idea that they would be killed off in the same way as any other club who had done as they did.

  28. To my mind it is quite amazing that Celtic have managed to come thru the decades of poor management and mis-mamagement that the scoddish game “currantly” epitomises.

Our Great Club has had its own problems, sure, but we’ve come through them, not perfect but we’re here……….when plenty o’ sleekits would have had us in the box an’ buried as soon as you could say……………bankruptcy.

Whether it’s the brown-brogue rogues or their be-Blazored cousins………..it’s the huns that have dutched the beautiful game in this country.

To constantly lay the blame at the feet of those who run our Club is either myopic, idiotic or sleekit.

The huns are the enemy of the fair game in every walk of life – the fitba’ is no different.

The old format, whilst less profitabe I’m sure, was simple. No BS. And that was a part of its appeal over other blogs and forums.

C’mon Kev, make yer mind up! That post is collapsing under the weight of its own contradictions. Could you really imagine HMRC checking on Keevins’ view before not agreeing to the CVA back in the glorious year of 2012, a decision that took Rangers(1872-2012) into liquidation?

Bizarrely as I read about your comments about Amsterdam, I’m listening to Lloyd Cole, Lost weekend( in Amsterdam).

I don’t know if you know any of the Amsterdam 5/6 but I’m very friendly with one of their Dads. He didn’t travel this season too much after what happened to him.

I think a lot of posters have no idea how poorly our away fans are treated. I read things like if you behave yourself you have nothing to bother about. In my experience it doesn’t work like that.
