Lots of frustration around today at the possibility the first leg of the Champions League qualifier will be switched to Belfast. It will be no comfort to those who booked travel yesterday but we are in this situation every qualifying game. The draw is made and confirmed a day or two later, which is why clubs (including Celtic) and CQN yesterday ran a “Don’t book travel until…” piece. On most occasions nothing is changed which means fans are caught out when change happens.
No reason why Uefa can’t deal with this on the day of the game, or exclusively on the basis of strict criteria. I hope they deny this request, which is not in Celtic’s favour and clearly not in fan’s best interest.
Two items to draw your attention to today:
Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust
Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust are undertaking a sponsored cycle of all SPL grounds this September in attempt to get to our £100k fundraising target. This money will be used to help on the battle to fight skin cancer working with organisations such as Beatson Cancer Centre. The event is called Tour for Tommy and will span 5 days, 12 clubs and 380 miles of cycling before returning to Celtic Park on Sunday 15th September. Ex-Celts such as Packie Bonner and Frank McGarvey are joining in as the full event and Bertie Auld will be completing the last day. The event is looking to team up with the fans of each club to join them on a leg from their stadium to the next.
The group have much of the logistics in place and most of the riders, but they need more help. Each of the four main days are being offered for sponsorship with day one already taken up. In return the 30-40 core riders will get their clothing made with that company’s logo as well as any signage on press releases at the stadiums among other benefits (full pack available upon request). The Tour has already received great coverage from Sky Sports with further commitment to track the whole event.
In addition the charity are looking for donations of anything from water bottles, energy bars/drinks to medical supplies and biking mechanical supplies.
If you are interested in getting involved in any way you can contact scottmcgarvey@gmail.com. You can donate here, follow on Facebook and twitter (@tommyburnsSCT).
I know many of you will be aware of the work done by Celtic fans for the people of Haiti as part of the Hoops For Haiti campaign. This is another aspect of the incredible work done by Celtic fans and a credit to our club. You can read their blog here and get involved here.

Celtic have responded to comments made by
Victor Wanyama’s agent by saying they have
acted with “integrity” over the player’s future.
Wanyama has been linked with a move away
from the Parkhead club and the Kenyan
midfielder’s agent, Ivan Modia, confirmed that
Southampton had agreed a fee with Celtic for
the player’s transfer but that personal terms
had been rejected.
Modia implied that Celtic were keen for the
player to move on after accepting the bid, in
excess of £12.5 million, but said Wanyama
would not be “forced into a corner”.
A Celtic spokesperson told Press Association
that they would not conduct business in the
public domain but had no questions to answer
over their handling of the situation.
“These negotiations like any others, are carried
out by Celtic in a proper, private and
professional manner,” the spokesperson said.
“Celtic carries out its business with integrity,
we work to the highest standards and in the
interests of the club, our supporters and
indeed our players.
“We do not need to comment any further on
this matter.”

This is just down to the agents leaking info and nothing to do with Celtic. They are trying to push up 3 things, 1) the price 2) their cut 2) Victors wages….
Celtic don’t have to do too much….Victor will have told them he wants to go and they will come to him with teams and offers…
Victor can go…Celtic will have a price in mind the rest is up to others….

Initially felt bad at prospect of losing Big Vic, but his agent has got right up my nose. I know Vic can’t control what the agent comes out with but he has saddled himself with a right plonker. At this stage I would like to see sale completed 13mill approx less costs safely banked with the bulk of it earmarked for strengthening the team.

I’m genuinely baffled by Wanyamas agent. He doesn’t seem to be doing himself or Victor any favours:
“Added to this is the fact that by Celtic refusing him permission to join Queens Park Rangers last summer, Victor lost more than £1million in potential salary earnings – yet he just kept his mouth shut and continued to be a model professional….”
… though he gained a platform to show his skills in the CL against Messi and Pirlo whilst losing the chance to play in the Championship with Shaun Wright Phillips

There is interest in McFadden but will only be offered a contract if other Targets are not secured and it will most probably be on a pay if you play basis as you suggest.

Hail Hail!
I just wanted to come back onto CQN this evening to say my farewells as myself and Olive head back to Australia tomorrow. I would like to offer my heart felt thanks to all the Celtic supporters I have met during the past month, at book signing events, in supporters clubs such as Greenock and at the CQN Golf Day. Also to everyone at the Lions Roar event last Friday where Bertie stole the show as usual! I came all the way from Australia and I couldn’t get a word in! The 1254125 charity tells you everything you need to know about Celtic supporters.
What is amazing about this Celtic family of ours is that when you live at the other side of the world you still know that this is a special club with wonderful supporters. Then you come back to Scotland and realise you actually under estimated these things because Celtic is even better than you remember and the fans are truly amazing. The best in the world.
I hadn’t really known too much about the significance of CQN before – yes I knew about it and the magazine but never realised what Paul has created. To everyone on CQN can I say a very special thank you. I hoped that the book would go well and we’d sell a few copies but it was never about money – it was about telling my story. I arrived at Winning Captains house and was met by a mountain of books to sign – all ordered by the CQNers. I had to go back another day to finish signing and the mountain was as big as before! I’ve been avoiding him ever since!
To Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan – when I heard his name I thought that would be some round of drinks! He’s been great, helping make Heart of a Lion what it is – a really good Celtic book – and turning up at the CQN events and book signings.
So thank you Paul, Jim, Tony and David and thank you the CQN’ers. Thanks to the Celtic family and I look forward to our next trip home to Paradise. Hail Hail and all the best to each of you and your families.
Willie Wallace
So the piemeister has signed a Magnificent Seven cowboys to ride roughshod over their division this year on SPL wages.
Will they blaze a trail to Div 2 glory or will they be saddled with more debt and be run out of town before the shootin’ starts?
Yulbrunnercsc
Mr Wallace , don’t mention it…….did you manage to sign ma book?hh
Could any of you ghuys in the West Country have a word with your local bobbies and make them aware of what they are letting themselves in for.
Are the good people of Bristol not privvy to the reputation of the travelling Orcs.
Might they not wonder why other police forces have objected to friendlies on their patch.
Have they never seen marauding Huns.
Lennybhoy. I tend to agree with you at the moment Celtic are keeping any further transfer activity close to there chest as they should.I think the Victor situation shows that any player who does not see there future with Celtic should be moved on as quickly and as profitably as possible or it can become messy and unsettle the whole playing staff.McFadzean on a pay as you play contract may well happen it would be interesting to know if he is training with anyone or sitting at home awaiting developments it would tell us a lot about his attitude.H.H.

“James McFadden played only 109 times including substitutions for Everton from 2003–2008
and this was when he was young and healthy”
In all competitions McFadden only had one season where he played less than 35 games.
Hope you continue to read and contribute Willie. Safe journey to you and you good lady wife…
Willie Wallace 18:52:
Willie, thank you very for your time and your Book and especially for taking the time to inscribe it at Aberdour with my Sunday name and “Lennybhoy, Keep the Faith! Hail Hail! Willie Wallace…I will treasure it for ever.
I wish you and Olive a safe journey home and many more happy years together…

I did read that somewhere.
I am surprised at the amount of negative response to JMcF, on his day he is a quality player, agreed has had more than his fair share of injurys, but just look at maloney, he seems to have gotten over his and is playing most weeks, the same could happen for Faddy.
On a pay for play would be ideal.
If he is a last resort, that cheers me up no end >}

Willie Wallace.
Thanks for the memories, glad you enjoyed your time in scotland.
Take care and god bless.

Better players than Wanyama have come and gone at Celtic FC
Now that the EPL makeweights have set his fee at around the 12-14M mark we can expect the middle band EPL teams who have a 50/50 chance of making the CL to enter the fray.
15M from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton or Newcastle sounds about right…….
Evening all
What a pleasure to read the message from the great Willie Wallace. Thrilled to meet you, loved the book. Have a good flight to Queensland
Hail! Hail!
Jimbo
Geordie Munro
Maybe so, unless Wiki is wrong, where he has 109 appearances for Everton from 2003 to 2008, and incidentally only scored 11 goals.
I reckon McFadden’s boat has sailed.
Willie Wallace on the blog…
Brilliant to read a legend’s words and his appreciation of our support.
Safe journey Willie and HAIL HAIL.
Mr and Mrs Wallace safe flight back to Australia,
Willie it might be best to switch your mobile off just in case Pep McCoist looks to make you an offer.
Take care and thanks for giving us and sharing with us so many memories.

Agreed. A deal that takes into account Faddy’s injury record and pays on a performance basis should not be hard to put together, especially if Faddy wants another turn in the limelight. (btw KJO where does that come from?)
As regards Lunjberg he is not Faddy.
And what about Maloney? After years of injury he suddenly turns up and shows what he is capable of. Big strong athletes are ten a penny and we need them to counter big strong athletes at other clubs but the kind of talent Faddy has is not ten a penny.
VP @ 18.54 PMSL. Ha ha!!
Willie, thanks for the chance to meet you at Aberdour and to listen to you and three other Celtic legends last Friday night at Paradise.
I still canny believe you got more point than me at the golf day. I demand a recount:-)
Looking forward to reading your book next week when I’m on holiday.
Have a safe trip home.

It does not surprise me that he would be last resort but with his injury recorded I can understand why. That said he is a talent and worth a punt at the end of the day.

Safe journey and Hail! Hail!,
Willie Wallace – a pleasure to bump into you in the Ayr store, Willie. Safe journey home, although you’ll be missing the glorious Scottish summer…
Re: James McFadden. a few on here with a down on the idea of him signing for us. Caveat: just remember what a certain 33 year-old Slovakian brought to the team. It’s about guile and a footballling brain at such age – McFadden has both in abundance.
Re McFadden:
The player is talented, passionate, hungry and has a wee bit of devil inside him too. His passion was there for all to see when he played for the Scotland team.
You’ll be aware he is a Celtic supporter and I’m sure would bring the same “stuff” to the Hoops as he does for the national side. Can’t see Hooper’s half-committed displays being replicated by McFadden.
Celtic supporter, with bags of talent, in a Celtic side. What’s not to like ?
Sandman
Believe he is 28 years of age.
Awe Jesus now comparing McFadden wi Lubo, stop it Ffs ma sides are killing me.
Will the new SPFL have any rule about submitting audited accounts…
Bsr ” unless wiki is wrong”
Lol
Hey I’m not saying his best years are ahead of him either bud.
I canny argue about the 11 goals either but it does seem a bit lean considering he scored 12 in his Everton/ brum season, including goals v France and Ukraine.
Willie,
I finished reading your book last night and it was a genuine trip down memory lane.
I am a contemporary of yours and remember vividly the evening your signing was announced.
I was working overtime at a school in Bearsden, with the tranny on, listening to the News.
I had heard, from an impeccable source, during the previous summer, that your signing was imminent.
Therefore, the news was not so much of a surprise, more of an ” At last”.
Your book tells it differently, but, of course, you would know the right story.
Bon Voyage and thanks for the memories.
