United caught in good but fragile football trap

405

It could be a big weekend in the race for the Premiership with Celtic away to bottom club Dundee United tonight and Aberdeen at fifth placed Ross County on Sunday. The gap at the top is currently three points, with Celtic having a game in hand. Tonight’s result will give the league table a true look, at least until Sunday afternoon.

Those of us of a certain heritage cannot take a trip to Tannadice lightly. Despite seeing United relegated since their 80s peak, they were never a bad team. Even now, cut adrift at the foot of the table, they play far better football than any other team I can remember in that position.

The recent Dundee derby was a case in point. United had the lead and should have buried Dundee before the fragility which has stalked United this season caught up with them. Tonight’s game will present a different proposition. Unlike against Dundee, when they went looking to put the game to bed, United will be far more cautious against Celtic, who will have to do their usual shift against a packed defence.

Despite this, United are bottom for a reason. They’ve won two of 21 league games, are 11 points from the play-off spot and need to pull something spectacular out of the bag this month to avoid relegation.

Three points, please, Celtic.

    Toad illy..,

Your the only one dishing out violent threats as well as violently assaulting Celtic supporters, you’ve nowhere to hide, you’ve grassed yourself up big time, threatening and invitations to come settle it has been your MO from day one on here and the pathetic old bully you attempt to personify is now exactly how you are known.

Res12 even if it goes nowhere further, is still far far more than you will ever amount to, your a pathetic old looser whose had your time, move along now and stop embarrassing yourself, no one is impressed with a pensioner desperately trying to hold on to their youth, yer a ned and a showing up.

  3. Like others of the time he was a victim of tactical naivety on Celtic’s part.

Indeed ,we would play young gifted players like Byrne Charlie G Johnny Higgins against hun cavemen like Shearer and Harold Davis

  4. Thanks to my more, ahem, learned seniors for the football chat. More of the same please, you had me scrambling to dig on Celtic Wiki in the middle of a busy work day to look up players and games mentioned.

All the rest of you bickering about mince could learn a few things from your elders.

You mean the guy that the Herald’s Cyril Horne described as ‘Tank Shearer’.

Those were the days when it was a ‘man’s game’ before brutes like Ian Young came along intimidating all and sundry.

Point being, what right has a judge to introduce or discuss advice/evidence obviously accepted by him, that was not brought to his attention through official court business, in fact could his statement no be used as evidence that he has reached his decision illegally ?

I have it from a reliable source that Tony Donnelly was spotted …jumping around The Brazen Head last Sunday …one hand on his zimmer …shouting …”no pyro no party “

  12. Ian Young,

Talented boy .BJ thought he was a bit soft. Willie Johnston had given him the ruaround in few games prior to the 65 LCF. BJ told Young first time he tries to go by you just put him up in the air he’ll no like it. About 2 mins in willie is redashed by Young. Ref didnt even give a foul . Willie didnt get by Young all day and we won the cup 2-1

The quotes provided have him speaking about “assurances” not evidence but assurances, I’d expect if the info came from the proceedings he would have referred to it as such but his quotes appear to identify extra court info he has taken on without question.

Canalamar. Fella your getting pretty personal for all you and I know TD67 could be a carer for his mother which in my opinion is a pretty good thing to do.Can you and TD not have a truce ? as in my opinion one of you or maybe both of you are going to end up with a red card from Paul67 and I believe you both would be a loss to the blog which has lost to many posters already. 17. Could someone tell me this,is PL son a scout with Man.,City,I was told he was,is this the reason we are continually being linked to their young players.

Who is benefitting by this,it is certainly not Celtic and what are our scouts doing?

If Ronny is finaly going to play two up front I cant help but feel the best two would be Griff.and Stokes and that it my be a mistake to loan Stokes out. H.H.

  22. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

If and when Stokes heads East, that just leaves Mulgrew and Commons as the old guard, unable to play a faster, ball moving game.

When RD first espoused his views on the game and how he intended to have Celtic play, I posted on here that we had four players unfit for that purpose; the three mentioned above, plus Sammi.

I didn’t say that because I thought they were poor players, but because I couldn’t see them fit into the new philosophy.

Nothing has changed in my mind.

Extra curricular activity and any off field tantrums wouldn’t have helped either ,though.
