‘WHY I HAD TO QUIT HOOPS’

YOUNG Celtic centre-half Fiacre Kelleher has agreed a two-year deal with Oxford United.
The Cork-born 6ft 5in defender has joined the League One side at the same time Head Coach Michael Appleton is about to move to Leicester City as assistant manager.

The 21-year-old, who made 25 appearances for Peterhead on loan last season, said: “I came here for the club and, whether he stays or goes, I think the club will still be run brilliantly.

“It was a big deal to move from Celtic where I had been since 16, but it was something I needed to do to progress my career.
“The interest from Oxford came a couple of weeks ago. When a deal was done, I was really happy to come to the club.”
