£3m GUSTAF JETS IN

GUSTAF LAGERBIELKE is jetting into Glasgow today and his £3million move from Elfsborg is likely to be sealed within 24 hours.

The Swedish international centre-back is poised for a medical at Lennoxtown after the champions and the player’s club agreed on the financial package, according to The Scottish Sun.

Lagerbielke arrives just a few days after his countryman Carl Starfelt ended his two-year stint at Parkhead with a switch to La Liga outfit Celta Vigo.

The 23-year-old defender, who made his international debut in a 2-1 win over Iceland in January, will sign a five-year deal with the treble winners and could go straight into the squad for the Viaplay League Cup meeting with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday.

Lagerbiekle is the second central defender Brendan Rodgers has bought with £4.3million German-born Polish defender Maik Nawrocki arriving from Legia Warsaw last month.

The Irishman moved swiftly for the Elfsborg player as soon as he realised Starfelt, who cost £4.2million when he joined from Rubin Kazan in July 2021, would be leaving the champions.

Lagerbiekle’s timing couldn’t be better with Cameron Carter-Vickers now doubtful for the Ayrshire clash after being forced off at the interval with a hamstring problem in the 3-1 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie at the weekend.
