5 games in December, 5 poor results to avenge

833

Celtic have five games still to play this month against teams they have recorded two draws, three defeats and no wins against this season.  Hearts and Rangers conformably recorded home wins against Celtic while St Johnstone won at Celtic Park.  Udinese were fortunate to escape Glasgow with a point thanks to a late penalty, while Kilmarnock demonstrated their unpredictability by taking, then losing, a three goal lead.

There was a bit of optimistic chat over the weekend that three of our next four league games are at home but these are the teams we need to beat to win the league.  If Celtic come through this month unscathed in domestic football they will win the league, but despite current good form, this will be a huge challenge, starting against Hearts at 15:00 on Saturday.

  1. Sunderland was actually quite well supported in Ireland in the 60’s. This was down to several Irish players performing very well for them. John Crossan (NI) and Charlie Hurley (ROI) being most notable. Had a bit of a soft spot for them myself and remember a titanic struggle against Man Utd in the FA Cup in 1965 – I think.. Sunderland was then in Div 2. 3 – 3 draw at Roker followed by a 2 – 2 at Old Trafford. Lost the second replay 5-1.

May be where MON got his allegiance.

This seems a decent theory as to why he supported them. In another life, I was a seminarian and all the Irish lads there had a soft spot for Sunderland. They would rave about Charlie Hurley all the time, who was someone I had never heard of back then.

Yes. Charlie was a big hero for the ROI guys. He played at international level along side Noel Cantwell who captained Man Utd to an FA cup win afgainst Leicester City in 1963. Charlie and Noel were magnificent twin centre halfs.

Does anyone know how close to a ban Kayal is at the moment ,with the derby coming up will one more yellow push him over the points limit .If so ,does he take a yellow soon or does Lenny have to put him on the bench to avoid missing the derby .

  11. Surely one half decent peformance from Big Dan does not mean an extension to his contract. Please No!

When does Glenda’s contract run out?

TBH I think both have played ok in the last two games…..but I always have a nagging doubt…ever since I lost that Loovens feeling.

A commanding Centre Half that provides confidence to the rest of the defence is a must signing.

  14. I sincerely hope Neil is talking up his player and is not serious about a new contract for big Dan.the quicker Dan and loovens are off the premises the better

Wanyama and Mulgrew would be my first centres for the time being.

I think Clydebank played Sunderland for their first game after they installed floodlights at Kilbowie Park. Charlie Hurley played for Sunderland that night, and I think he scored. Maybe some old bankies bhoys can confirm as my memory is not as good as it was last week.

Kelvin Wilson should be back soon, and he will be first choice if fit and available, I would hope Lenny gets the other CB he wants in the window.

At the start of the season, I thought Lenny was looking to go with Kelvin and Glenda, but hey, what do I know.
