5 games in December, 5 poor results to avenge

833

Celtic have five games still to play this month against teams they have recorded two draws, three defeats and no wins against this season.  Hearts and Rangers conformably recorded home wins against Celtic while St Johnstone won at Celtic Park.  Udinese were fortunate to escape Glasgow with a point thanks to a late penalty, while Kilmarnock demonstrated their unpredictability by taking, then losing, a three goal lead.

There was a bit of optimistic chat over the weekend that three of our next four league games are at home but these are the teams we need to beat to win the league.  If Celtic come through this month unscathed in domestic football they will win the league, but despite current good form, this will be a huge challenge, starting against Hearts at 15:00 on Saturday.

SPL Statement: Celtic v Hibernian 29/10/11

The report of the SPL Match Delegate at the above fixture included information from the Police Match Commander regarding Unacceptable Conduct amongst a small number of Celtic fans in that they chanted and sang in support of the IRA.

Such reports result in an investigation to determine whether any breach of SPL Rules by the club in question may have occurred. This investigation included meetings with the Head of Operations at Celtic FC; the Divisional Commander (Chief Superintendent), Strathclyde Police E Division; the Match Commander (Superintendent), Strathclyde Police on the day of the fixture and the Head of the Football Co-ordination Unit Scotland (Superintendent), Strathclyde Police.

Written statements were also received from the Safety Officer, Celtic FC and from the Steward Supervisor, Celtic FC responsible for the relevant section of Celtic Park.

    Summary Findings

It is not disputed that a small number of Celtic fans engaged in singing and chanting in support of the IRA. Such behaviour is unacceptable and unwelcome at SPL matches. It is noted that Celtic FC has condemned such activity publicly on many occasions (most recently by Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell and by Head Coach, Neil Lennon). It is important that such public condemnation should continue.

It has been established, through the above investigation, that Celtic FC took all reasonably practicable steps before, during and after the match (in consultation and conjunction with Strathclyde Police) to minimise the likelihood of Unacceptable Conduct occurring and, where it did occur, to assist in the identification and prosecution of offenders.

The ongoing work amongst the club, supporters and police to ensure that any Unacceptable Conduct is eradicated from Celtic Park is noted and is welcomed.

Cabbageandbacon, good news about the guy from Belfast who won the euromillions raffle on one million pound! Good news for your club. 2 offers on table for Rory Donnelly. Both been seriously considered. Both less than 6 figures though.

“Given that clubs are changing their directors and people are coming and going every day, it’s impossible for the Scottish FA to investigate every single person across every professional club in Scotland.”

This is an exaggeration that tries to conceal the SFA failure to administer Scottish football correctly.

Directors change every day? Come on, Stewart, you must be joking !

In the same interview, he says that he is waiting for Ragers/Whyte to supply information about dates. He should be asking the Stock Exchange for that information as it is more likely to be accurate.

good news about the guy from Belfast who won the euromillions raffle on one million pound!

Read about someone from Belfast winning that and then saw an email from National Lottery saying to check my ticket as I had won something.

Putting 2 and 2 together, had my resignation letter almost written before seeing that my winnings amounted to £2.90. barely covered the cost of the bleedin ticket.

I remember having a dream a while ago that I won enough in the lottery to buy a football club and have nearly twice as much change left over. didn’t think it would be this.

I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to find out how many new directors have been appointed to SPL?SFL clubs in past 12 months. I don’t think it would take too long to investigate these.

On the subject of names I once worked in London for a Woollen Merchants whose premises were very large taking up all of one side of a square to the rear of Picadilly Circus. It was so large they had a tannoy system to contact anyone who roamed the premises such as the maintenance team one of which was John Balls and the other was Jack Cox. It was quite normal in those days to omit Christian names and as they were quite often needed together it was quite amusing to hear the switchboard operator ” calling Balls and Cox to the 5th floor.” She needed a prize for maintaining composure but she almost lost it once when summoning the newly arrived lass in the German export department – a Miss Helga Kuhnt!

  16. CELTIC are supporting the White Ribbon Scotland Campaign during the 16 Days of Action to End Violence Against Women.

And at Sunday’s SPL game at Tannadice, both Celtic and Dundee United players wore the white ribbon on their shirts in support of this important campaign.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said, “Everyone at the Club is glad to be supporting this campaign during the 16 Days of Action. There is no place in our society for violence against women and we are glad to be taking this opportunity to speak out against those that treat women in an abusive manner.”

The White Ribbon stands as a symbol of opposition to violence against women. Wearing a White Ribbon signifies a commitment to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.

The White Ribbon Campaign is a global campaign, which involves men in working to end violence against women.

The aim of the campaign, which began on Friday, November 25, is to involve men in working to end violence against women and in raising public awareness of the issue.

Men and women can show their support for the campaign by visiting http://www.whiteribbonscotland.org.uk and take the pledge ‘not to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.’

Campaign co-ordinator Callum Hendry said: “We are delighted to see a club like Celtic Football Club take this public stance towards violence against women.

“As clubs take leadership in speaking out about this issue the message will ripple down to the supporters. We need men to act as positive role models for younger fans and to challenge peers who display negative attitudes and behaviour towards women.

“We then stand a chance of reducing the number of incidents of violence by preventing it from occurring in the first place.”

The 16 Days of Action Against Gender Violence is running from November 25 – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – to this Saturday, December 10 – International Human Rights Day.

Those days symbolically link violence against women to human rights, to emphasise that it is a human rights abuse to commit violence against women.

Just posted and returned to see your post above. Spooky eh.

  18. So now the charge is unacceptable behaviour. It couldn’t be anything more serious, as, I believe, chanting in favour if the IRA is not illegal. It is NOT even sectarian. It is political. Mind you, it could be illicit chanting (but, then, just about anything could be that). I’m no lawyer but I doubt they could have made a prosecution stick, under the existing legislation, never mind the new improved version, currently going through Holyrood. Could one of our members of the legal profession guide us on this.

In spite of the above, I have not changed my long standing view that such singing should not be taking place at Celtic Park. I just don’t like abuse of the law being done to do us down.

I noticed from the SPL site that ragers only committed 1 foul in their game against Dumfermline .

They went through the whole of the first half without committing a single foul ,in fact the first foul they committed was in the SEVENTY NINTH minute which resulted in a booking for Goijan and they then played out the rest of the last 10 or so tense minutes without committing any more fouls .

This must be some sort of record surely

  24. I am with ParkheadcumSalford on the issue in that I think the songs are best left for other places than the fitba. BUT looking at it from a ‘legal’ point of view (disclaimer – I have no legal training) it would be something that people could argue long and hard about.

‘Singing in support of the IRA’ – possibly ‘up the RA’ would come over as that. Repeating what it says on a wall – not so much.

What if the Graffiti said ‘Ooh Aah Up the SNP’? Constitutional party so it’s OK?

‘Oohh Aaahh Up the French Resistance’

‘Oohh Aahh Up the British Army’

‘Ooh Aahh Up the Old IRA, we don’t approve of people who fired guns after 1922’? What is OK?

And it sometimes makes me ask myself – were we right to take Rangers to task over their songbook? Yes, it is sectarian, racist and all the rest but in defence of their beloved club the establishment have brought their full force to bear in turning the tables on us and taking the heat off themselves. Should we have seen it coming? Should we have just let them wallow in their own filth? Have we achieved anything? Are they any less racist or sectarian in attitude because we complained so loudly about their bigotry? The problem, we are always saying, is bigger than football. The football is the most visible place where it all happens, so perhaps we should have trained our guns at the conditions that creates what happens at the football.

I don’t know what to think.

  26. Virtually every time I have seen a penalty awarded this season one of the defending team has picked

up a yellow or even a red card.

Interestingly Steve Conroy was so sure of his ground at Ibrox on Saturday that he chose to show a caution card

to none of the Dunfermline players.

I think that tells you all you need to know about the veracity of the decision yet no-one in the LL has pointed out this

    rather odd decision.

I see where you are coming from re whytie trying to make the end of the season, but I doubt that selling a couple of players will be suffice.

Jelavic 4-5 tops and they are still due at least 1 mill for him, a fire sale and that’s what it will be will bring in 10-12, nobody in their right mind will pay anything like market value, that would be my estimate for the first team squad, the rest available will lose more games that they win, even with the help of the cheats with whistles and flags.
