5 games in December, 5 poor results to avenge

833

Celtic have five games still to play this month against teams they have recorded two draws, three defeats and no wins against this season.  Hearts and Rangers conformably recorded home wins against Celtic while St Johnstone won at Celtic Park.  Udinese were fortunate to escape Glasgow with a point thanks to a late penalty, while Kilmarnock demonstrated their unpredictability by taking, then losing, a three goal lead.

There was a bit of optimistic chat over the weekend that three of our next four league games are at home but these are the teams we need to beat to win the league.  If Celtic come through this month unscathed in domestic football they will win the league, but despite current good form, this will be a huge challenge, starting against Hearts at 15:00 on Saturday.

Leans over keyboard before finishing typing – hence garbled last sentence!

Interestingly the Gray brothers (Eddie and Frank) haD a MIDDL – should read:

………… had a middle brother (James?) who I played with – decent player but no idea what happened to him. A lot of guys )back then) who would have walked into teams today unfortunately never made it.

  2. Wee Cragie, a man of mystery it seems.

So what is he, what is known ?

We know he is a dodgy charachter, we know he has been barred from holding a directorship, we know he has had dealings with less than savory business people, we know he has misinformed the stock exchange, we know he has misinformed the SFA, we know he has a reputation for delaying paying his bills until needs be, we know he has walked away from paying his dues to everyday people, we know many other things that he has done in the name of making a pound.

What we don’t know is why he is at RFC.

Some are saying he is a patsy

Some are saying he is a front for dodgy money

Others are saying he is in it to pick the bones and ride off into the sunset

Many are saying he believd that he could have made a fist of it with CL football, and certainly EL football, that was a gamble that failed then.

A few are saying he dosen’t have a clue what he is doing, and playing it by ear, if this is the case he must fall into the giving it a go scenario.

Who is pulling the strings ? if indeed there is a puppet master.

Or did he really fancy the ego trip of being the man who pulled it off ?

He may well yet be a patsy, and if I had had my chain pulled, and been made a fool of publicly, don’t think I would be too happy, how much does silence cost these days ?

In my reckoning, if 10% of the shady dealings come to light re the whole RFC, SFA, HMRC saga comes to light I will be astonished.

And the man who with his dodgy dealings has destroyed scotthish football, owes the banks nigh on a Billon pounds, owes the HMRC god knows how much, has been knighted.

    Welcome to Scotland.

Thanks. I use the bus occasionally but often make my own way there. The people on the bus know I am Jungle Jim. In fact, when I first went on it, I was asked my name. “Jim,” I said. ” You are not Jungle Jim ,are you? ” ,he said. “Yes, I am” ,said I.” Lhads!” , he shouted to all on the bus. “This is Jungle Jim .”

He told me later I was a Legend. One does not have to do much in Arbroath to have greatness thrust upon them! Can you imagine how some of the more illustrious posters on here would be greeted? o:-)

I had the same pessimistic view about their goings on a few months ago (held bitterly for much longer). I am now much more optimistic that a proper ‘witchin’ hour is fast approaching. Their lapdogs are now lining up to break the bad news. What is now coming to light through Phil/RTC/Paul etc. is that this extends well beyond their comfort zone, and is now a matter of uk law and the European football authorities.

  25. Celtic to be cleared by Uefa on Thursday?

    by winner67 on December 5, 2011 · 0 comments

With the news that Celtic have been cleared of breaching rules by the SPL re illicit chanting thoughts will now move to Thursdays hearing with Uefa.

We are of course on facing a charge due to alleged illicit singing by a section of the Celtic support during a recent Europa league game.

I understand Uefa have been contacted in writing by a number of sources re the validity of these charges. Celtic have contacted Uefa in relation to the way in which the charges were brought. There was no mention after the game by the match commander re the alleged singing and the normal process would be for the person in question to highlight this to the club after the match. This wasn’t done and the club were not given time to respond to the match commander or try and act on the complaint. This in itself may work in Celtics favour.

I also have it on good authority that certain individuals ‘of authority’ have written to Uefa to explain in context the history and meaning of these songs. Uefa have only to look at the comments of one of their own when making a decision on Thursday.

William Gallard a few years back while in Scotland was asked the question of why Rangers were being targeted for their sectarian singing while Celtic fans were allowed to sing certain ‘Irish Republican songs’

Gallard replied that in this case Celtic could be bracketed with many clubs whose supporters championed nationalist causes. This is very different from racist and sectarian singing.

We have said for many years that our songs are not sectarian and that we can in no way be compared with our shameless neighbours across the city, nothing has changed my view on this.

I like others however believe it is time to move on from certain chants/addons and there are a couple of reasons for this. The first reason is that it is clear that a huge number of our support are unhappy some even offended by these addons. As a club open to all we should in no way alienate anyone by singing songs that may make some of our own supporter’s uncomfortable.

The second reason being the reputation of our club and us as supporters.

We have a fantastic reputation worldwide and having ourselves hauled in front of Uefa will only harm the good work we have done in showing the world what it means to be a Celtic supporter. Peter Lawwell said a while back that Celtic are received and respected very well everywhere they go outside of Scotland. We don’t want this to change.

To be fair to our supporters the minute this charge was made public the addons were dropped and replaced. This is how much the reputation of our club means to our supporters. Unlike some others we don’t need multiple warnings, fines and sanctions to encourage our support to stop damaging the clubs reputation.

Don’t be surprised if Celtic are cleared on Thursday with some attached messages that these types of addons in the future may lead to problems as Uefa begin a clampdown on political chanting.

I have however been wrong before and in the back of my mind a voice tells me that we will be made an example of.

I don’t usually listen to the voices in my head so I aint paying much attention to that.

I think the support at Tannadice yesterday deserve a special mention. They were simply fantastic and not since last season have I heard the support in such good voice. The singing back and fourth between the stands at times was spine tingling and we truly are part the greatest support on the planet. I am sorry I missed this one. Blame the pregnant wife

    Let the people sing

Billy is currently retired and living in Derby. Health not great recently.

Why didn’t he play for the Hoops? A good question given that John would have been 19 at the time and in the Celtic first team. Unfortunately it’s as simple as the fact that things were a good deal less sophisticated back then. Celtic weren’t on the ball. The Sunderland scout was from Coatbridge. He got Billy down at the age of 15 and Celtic never got a look in really.

A big move for such a young man. My own daughter’s that age now and the idea of her living in digs on her own in another country is just unthinkable.

Patrick, who was the youngest, played for St Mirren primarily. He passed away, God rest him, on Christmas day last year. It was out of the blue and a terrible shock to his family.

In a strange twist of fate, he finished his playing days in Darlington. Which means all 3 brothers had careers which ended in Sunderland or within spitting distance.

Billy’s tale though is one which would be unthinkable nowadays. He’d be signed out of primary scholl or earlier in today’s environment.

    Cheers

    Yogi

  27. With Izzy due back shortly Neil has almost a full squad after a shocking catalog of injuries almost derailed our title hopes in the early half of the season. With just Ledley and Wilson out Neil has all his players in a good vein of form and it looks like Scott Brown will have to be satisfied with an impact sub role for the present such is the form of the midfield.

This should give that old ankle injury of his extra time to get right again.

Hooper and Stokes are well on the way to make the twenty goal mark again this season and great to see them also getting goals in Europe, never an easy task. Hooper was unlucky to have his goal against Athletico Madrid chalked off for a marginal infringement, which was a razor sharp strike. Great recovery by Neil to have the team pretty much on song again. Pat Fenlon could be the man to do us a favour with his Hibs on Saturday – no better man.
