A kind of transubstantiation

840

Bobby Clark was the first Aberdeen goalkeeper I knew.  He was thought of highly, until Jim Leighton and colleagues stepped the performance levels up a pace at Aberdeen.  He has two places in the history books, one for the longest period not to concede a goal in Scottish league football, which when established in 1971 was also the European record.  He was also the first goalkeeper in European competition to face a penalty in a penalty kick competition.

Back in the dark days of the late 90s I had a Celtic mug with the message ‘Records can be broken but history can never be changed: Celtic, first British team to win the European Cup, 1967’.  Bobby Clark lost his European record within months and at Tynecastle next week Fraser Forster can break his Scottish record.  Bobby’s place as first to face a penalty competition is his in perpetuity.

Records are harder to break than they should be.  People get nervous when they approach, but it will be enormously satisfying if Celtic can sail through 31 minutes at Tynecastle without conceding.

Back in 2011 and early 2012 practically the entire CQN community was discussing Rangers impending insolvency event as an absolute certainty, but we’ve never been the most impartial community.  It was not until Daily Record journos stopped applying to Our Hero for a job and suggested ‘this excrement is about to get real’ that the penny dropped in many places.

This included portions of the Celtic support, who responded to the ‘news’ with a Congo line at Inverness, at the same time forever changing the substance of jelly and ice cream; a kind of transubstantiation, if you like.  This was no longer a sweet, it is nourishment for the ages.

Now the same newspaper has been authorised to run a story that there is doubt over this month’s payroll – would they dare suggest as much without authorisation?  When your friends are telling you they can hear the bell toll, you know where this is heading.

Why is it that Celtic supporters continue to face arrest for singing Roll of Honour yet nothing is mentioned when Irish Soldier Laddie, which includes the line, ‘and I’ll go and fight the forces of the crown’ is sung?

    Genuine question.

It’s not a TV deal, unless the money increases substantially with the return of the hun, but I doubt it would be enough to compensate for dwindling crowds, and no euro money.

It could be sponsorship, but the OF thing is down to two clubs, you would think the rest would be vocal at resisting this.

    Mystifying right enough.

The answer will probably lie in the wishes of the teams outside of the euro places.

Also remind me of what happens to the license of teams in dispute with their governing body? Are they prevented from participating in Europe? I can’t remember the answer.

I make a genuine attempt to understand these issues and have huge sympathy for the victims on all sides.

Is it possible for you to understand why I,as a Celtic supporter, have no wish to be associated with them?

Nevertheless,as a Celtic supporter, these issues have been imposed on me against my will by various factions within the Celtic supporter community.

Why should I be associated with the I.R.A.simply because I support Celtic?

Do you think that is fair, reasonable or decent ?

Or even productive for those who wish to continue “the struggle”?

Do you think the E.P.L.will have any truck with us while these associations continue and flourish?

La Liga tolerates Barca with its Catalan aspirations and Bilbao and Sociedad with Basque associations.

Our aspiration is not to be part of England but to be allowed to find our own natural weight in the world of competitive leagues. The EPL is merely a convenient destination. It will be brought about, if it happens at all, by influence from UEFA and the Broadcasters rather than by the granted grace of the FA.

macjay, I am certainly not asking you to support anything. It is your absolute right to live your life in any way you want and to support Celtic in any way you want. I’m surprised you even felt you had to ask the question.

Scotland joining Eurovision would be ‘very difficult for everyone’ 17-02-14

SCOTLAND’S bid to join Eurovision would be opposed by countries where people can hear, it has been claimed.

Manuel Barroso, the president of Eurovision, said: “The other members will not stand by while Scotland unleashes some kind of auto-tuned bagpipe shitfest.

“It would, no doubt, be performed by an ageing, kilted, softcore punk. I’m seeing horrible visions of a ‘Scottish Tenpole Tudor’.

“Either that or they’ll offer up Hue and Cry and expect us all to just sit there and take it.”

But Scotland’s first minister, Alex Salmond, dismissed Mr Barroso, insisting he already has a detailed Eurovision plan, entitled The Coercion of Primal Scream.

Whatever, it stinks, and if they get liquidated again and come back as another version, I believe it will kill the game for good.

For me it’s the best thing that could happen to scottish football, it’s not going to change, death is best for all imo.

There’s a finite number of answers to the mystery, Mrs Starry says I watch to many movies and maybe she’s right but in those “let’s face down corruption” tales, there’s usually a Mr Big let’s call him for the sake of argument The Mint who will stop at nothing to remain in the shadows and people who wander into his shadow are often intimidated, beaten or even killed, I mean who would have ever thought that a Football manager would be sent bullets and bombs??

Football is only the tip of the iceberg in this story and who knows what goes on behind the scenes in the Beautiful Game, big bucks to be made in that!

I for the life of me find it hard to believe that the SFA and SPL again smooth the way for the zombies but it appears to be happening right in front of our eyes.

All of which makes it daily harder to reconcile my love for Celtic with the blunt cheating and corruption that is going on and honestly since the Nimmo decision my heart has being going out of it and I am in the middle of Europe I can only imagine the struggle for many good Tims who are right in the middle of it.

I have close family members who now go to to the bookies and then to the pub to watch the EPL, these are former season ticket holders and that my friend is the real tragedy of the liquidation of the huns.

They said they would take everyone with them and it seems the SFA are making sure they do!

My own belief is that there are a few teams in the league that don’t want the Huns back. The rest are hun lovers. Unfortunately the Hun lovers outnumber the teams with integrity.

The teams with integrity are up against the Hun loving teams, the Hun loving governing body and uefa don’t give two hoots.
