Aberdeen urge SPFL to wait, it will make no difference

243

I’m delighted Aberdeen got on-board with the suggestion the SPFL refrain from making a quick decision to curtail the Premiership season.  In a letter to the other 11 SPFL teams, the League and SFA, they want to explore every way possible to complete the remaining league and Scottish Cup fixtures, while keeping a full 2020-21 fixture programme.

There is no reason for the SPFL, or our governments, to act quickly to cancel the season, and every reason to monitor what happens in countries where plans to relax lockdown have been prepared.

Chairman Dave Cormack outlined objectives and concerns, including the health of players and their ability to perform during a heavy fixture burden without affecting the outcome of games.  His optimism is commendable, but almost certainly misplaced.

Players are in a demographic considered among the safest from the worst consequences of virus, but playing football games will spread Covid among squads.  Fixtures cannot be fulfilled if your squad is ill with Covid, or isolating because they have been exposed to the virus.  Recuperation time from an illness with such consequences is also likely to be substantial for an athlete (this remains uncertain as no athlete has yet recuperated and returned to competition).

I would love to see the season end competitively.  We will not be able to attend games, but we would be able to watch Celtic win the title on the field, see Hearts relegated the way nature intended and watch Newco play their home games in Paisley.

Instead of cramming lots of games into the available time, I suspect the first year football returns will see lots of fixture cancellations and competition overruns.  We have yet to get our heads around where the world is right now, but there’s no reason Aberdeen cannot look into possibilities.  Wait until June, realise what you should have known for months and call it then.

  1. So UEFA have awarded us the title. Regardless.

Is there a meltdown in the Scottish media yet?

Or are they waiting a statement or talking points memo from under the marble staircase?

Walked 2 miles every day since lockdown, despite waiting on knee replacement, I think I have seen more Karchers than cars ….

Wemyss Bay photos – the older red sandstone buildings are still there. The Wemyss Bay Hotel in the right of the picture was only demolished last year and is now a Co-op.

QE2 photo from the other night – the photo looks like it was taken from the air above where I was born up the Gibby. In 1968, as a wide eyed ten year old, I was taken aboard by my uncle and given the grand tour – never forget it.

  5. For all the criticism and accusations of amateurism, the SPFL board have liaised with medical, police and government officials to help analyse and draw up a plan. They’ve carried out an economic assessment on the needs of the clubs.

A resolution to sort out all the leagues has been passed, one rubber stamped by UEFA today, on sporting merit.

I hope they leave it for 6-8 weeks before they call it but I suspect we’ll be celebrating the 9 within a week. They’ve done their homework and will put this to bed very soon.

Lots of posters asking after him.

I’ve asked BMCUWP if he’s got contact details.

If anyone has it will be the greatly missed BMCUWP!

“Hearts manager Daniel Stendel says club owner Ann Budge feels she is fighting a lone battle trying to save the club from relegation.”

Sorry! Who signed Craig Levein, Ian Cathro and Stendel?

    Auld bitchy bitch….

  8. The premier league should now get called so clubs can focus on how they will survive, on reconstruction and on next season.

Given we dont know when the season will start and when crowds will be able to return celtic have to cut costs.

Moving on the loan and out of contract players such as, Forster, Gordon, Jozo, Swiss Rightback, Arzani,

Norwegian left winger, Hayes and Miller will save many millions over a year.

Promote one of Hazard or Doolan, Welsh or Deas, Oxoflex and dembele to add kids already around the first team.

In ordinary times I would be gutted if we moved out all the players and replaced with kids but we may just need to get on with it.

No matter what we will need a new goalkeeper to commence the season and we will need a centreback (if ajer goes) and a striker (if eduard goes). We also may have seen the last of ntcham and/ or rogic

  9. I’m looking for a bit of information from anyone who has suffered from a lack of iron in their body?.

I was ill a couple of years and was sick as soon I ate anything, this carried on for about 4 months and I lost 7-1/2 stones in weight, doctors gave me an injection every three months called B12 and I would recieve these injections for the rest of my life, I was due an injection Yesterday ,when I phoned last week I was told that they werent giving injections because of this Corona Virus,

The reason I’m asking on the blog is they may be someone who also has been on B12 and missed an injection, did it harm you in anyway, that is my worry at this moment in time.

B12 is for pernicious anaemia, you need it to manufacture health red cells which carry oxygen to your cells, so you do need to get it .

  15. OldTim….. my wife receives the B12 injection on a strict schedule. The practice nurse carries this out and she is due one within the next two weeks. She’s been told it is going ahead as planned……. fingers and toes crossed.

Trusting you are safe and well.

  16. Oldtim

Give them a buzz if you dont have a date for your injection as they are likely to be swamped with other things and you dont want to let this go too long. All the best.

  17. BATEEN BHOY.

I phoned for an appointment last Wednesday for the injection which was supposed to for Yesterday, but the receptionist said they werent taking appointments because of the Carona Virus,it seems she was talking shit.

I’m quite confused at the moment,do I phone again, it may be the same woman that come on,and gives me the same answer. I’d bow my top and may get banned from the surgery forever.

  18. Oldtim – just logged on after a wee drinks poo in the garden.

My sister in law gets this b12 injection and had to pick up from a chemist in Springburn and has to go to Maryhill (not normally her surgery) to get a professional to inject her tomorrow .

No mention of coronavirus and no injection

    Stay safe fella
