If DD’s a Celtic supporter?….why did he say the following….

“Rangers are a wonderful club with, a wonderful history and amazing fans who should be in the top flight with Celtic.”

  2. ‘Lol, it was an interview with DD, and that is what he said, what part of that did you not get?’

    #######

Other things The Great Desmondo has said when interviewed:

“Rangers is a great football club, it has a great history and it’s unfortunate that they have been relegated,”

“We would certainly like to contest with them every week”

“Rangers is a fantastic football club, it is one of the greatest football clubs in Great Britain, we’ve got to acknowledge that.”

“Rangers are a fantastic club with a great history. They will, in not too long a time, be back in the SPL. I have no doubt about that And they’re needed for Scottish football because of their following, the size of the club and especially their history..”

CQN can be a bit mad after a defeat

When did Celtic fans acquire this God given right to win every game, sounds a bit like that old Rangers attitude, ah well maybe success breeds contempt

Too much for me, am flouncing (till about 5pm at least)

Hail Hail fella and, thank you.

  5. Naw Tony I am going nowhere and people like you are not going to win.

You are a narrow minded facist. Who hates academia and tries to dumb everything down to you purple level.

You go back to reading your maws daily record. That’s about your level.

  6. I have never met our majority shareholder, he is not the owner ! nor am i his biggest fan, billionaires are corrupting football IMO

However, i believe DD when he says that is was not a straightforward business deal buying into Celtic, he has held the shares he has in Celtic for 20 years now, how big is his emotional attachment ? certainly no where near the emotional attachment of the fans who fill the supporters buses week in week out, when you look around at the assortment of hyenas and corrupt businessmen at football clubs in the UK, it could be a lot worse ?

I am glad though that Celtic fans continue to question and hold DD to account over the running of our club, most noticeably the Celtic trust, long may they continue to do so

The Irish tycoon – and Celtic’s majority shareholder – spoke on the eve of the 20th anniversary of McCann’s takeover and acknowledged he was won over by the masterplan that was being put in place way back in 1994 after the then board was ousted.

“It was all about saving Celtic – Fergus was saving Celtic,” recalled Desmond.

“I wasn’t really aware of all the intricacies going on between the various families and factions, but Fergus went in there, I would say, as a neutral, cold and hard, and wanted to do his best for Celtic and its fans.

“I saw that and I believed in that, and it was easy for me then to look at it on that basis and to support him.

“But I never looked upon it purely as a normal investment because, as I’ve said many times before, Celtic is an emotional investment, although at the same time you don’t want to be throwing money at emotional investments as you could go broke pretty quickly doing that.

“So I looked upon it as creating a solid financial platform for Celtic in conjunction with Fergus and the other board members.

“But the emotional side of it sways you. If it had been another club on the same basis, I wouldn’t have been interested in investing.

“But, from when I was a young boy, I had a fondness and a love for Celtic so it was easy for me to look at it closely and I started off wanting to invest rather than from a basis of refusing it.”

It was all about saving Celtic – Fergus was saving Celtic

    Dermot Desmond

Desmond, talking to The Celtic View, also revealed how he got together with McCann as Celtic teetered on the brink of going bust.

“It was 1994 when I’d been introduced to the opportunity of investing in Celtic by a friend of mine called Brian Phelan, who connected me with Fergus.

“I looked over the plans he had and he told me they were looking for £4million, but I felt they would need to raise £8m.

“So I said I would invest £4m and underwrite another £4m, so that was really my first financial encounter with Celtic.”

Since then, Desmond has kept a low public profile as far as the Hoops are concerned but remains hugely interested in everything that happens at Parkhead. And no major decisions are taken without his say-so.

He is also close to manager Neil Lennon.

But now, as then, he appreciates exactly what the support means to Celtic, and added: “The football club is about the fans.

“It’s a merger between all the players, the coaches, the executives and the fans – and we are all unified in our love of Celtic.

“I think a football club without fans is not a football club.”

Your right, and that attitude comes from that cringeworthy song..”here we go ten in a row” that to me is not right, but sing it they will, me? Not a chance, to much like a we are the people song for me, imho, that is.

    Look.

Ronny will be gone after we get beat by Ajax 4-0 and by Dundee 0-1.

    I’ll wish him well.

And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold, their hearts’ blood dyed its very fold

So raise the league flag flying high

Beneath its shade we’ll live and die

Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer

We’ll keep the league flag flying here

  13. I Heard He Was Dead

Good post. Where have you been all my life?

I’m more pessimistic than you, however. Ronny’s poor, but not Mowbray levels of poor. It won’t be a catastrophe followed by a clean break. Rather, there will be more gradual decline. If Ronny manages even one decent result in Europa, he and his hipster supporters will cling onto it like a life-raft, until we enter the calmer waters of the season’s latter stages. We will, barring an upset even the most deeply holed mineshafter hasn’t envisaged, win the league, and that will be that.

Ronny will endure, and be endured.

Stop living in the past, yes indeed that is a true story & a fact as regards to my earlier post.

Stop throwing your toys out of the pram.

DD has been well & truly sussed out as far as our Club is concerned? He is only looking

to top up his Bank Balance which is in Billions mode.

I mean miss the Zombies aye right DD that’s like asking someone do you miss a hole

in your head the only thing DD is missing from the Zombies is the extra money full

house’s they bring when we play them @ CP sad but true.

Yip, posted last night we should not sing that. Reminds me of the Season some sang cheerio to nine in a row. Said throughout the latter Season we shouldn’t, it came back to bite us…once bitten and all that.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  18. My friends in Celtic,

Many of us predicted that the rightful absence of “Rangers”, Sevco, whatever would make it far more difficult for us, not easier.

I think that is the case for many reasons. Financial and motivational to name just two.

Basically: We have players who should be doing better. They are being paid to do better.

For a minute lets forget the obsession with PL and the business side of our club. Far too much emphasis is placed on this for our failings, and we overlook the sometimes seemingly “Gutless” performances of our players.

Nostalgia is good but truthfully how many of our star performers would have signed or stayed for so long if the domestic challange of Rangers was not there.

Henrick Larsson, Chris Sutton, Joos Valgaeren, Alan Thompson, Neil Lennon, Mark Viduka, Stan Petrov, Lubo Moravcik, John Hartson, Bobby Petta to name but a few.

Yes this is all hypothetical but I believe it to be true. Our current managers job is so much harder without the “pressure” of our cheating neighbours.

Finally IMO there is a very easy simplistic answer to address falling crowds. If our supporters do what it says on the tin and support. If you are a supporter and can go to Parkhead, then go. Complain if you want, but go.

  22. lennon's passion on

I have been ridiculed on here for my dislike to Ronny one system(water of a ducks back I’m a big bhoy). The man is out his depth.

I have been informed I wasn’t seeing the bigger picture, don’t understand his system, changing the way Scottish football think/behave.

Out of all this abuse I’ve had,I had the knowledge I go to the game’s and watch what is happening. Don’t know how many times I read yesterday. Never seen the GAME but ……

I’m no WARBURTON :-)) but I know if I’m watching good football. Celtic are a poor team.

  23. Sacking Ronny wulny fix it coz…PL will just bring in another puppet to be conditioned / confidentiallity-claused….then, sacked / mutually-consented.

Sacking PL wulny fix it coz…DD will just bring in another puppet to be conditioned / confidentiallity-claused….then, sacked / mutually / consented.

Sacking DD…will fix it but….I’m convinced that it’ll take a defeat from Warburtons huns to get all the fans onto the same page and…looking in the one direction.

Then…operation – Save and re-stucture Celtic Football Club – can get under way.

The timing and, execution of this operation will be key….

Celtic supporters are ‘never’ more powerful than when…Season Book Renewal time arrives.

That is when you fire yer one and only bullet…you ‘MUST’ make it count!

Through communications…on here and elsewhere…Celtic supporters would have to agree to, withold their collective Season Book Money and…pool it together to be presented to, DD in exchange for control of the club!

    Simples.

Martin O’Neill said: “Rangers are a very big miss. Celtic have missed them in the last few years and not only that but the league has as well.

“The punishment on the face of things looked a little bit harsh. It certainly has affected the game greatly, also with Hearts and Hibs not being there, the top flight has lost some of its lustre.”

  27. I heard he was dead on

    up_over_goal

It will take a domestic shambolic result to get the board to act on a par with a 4-0 at New St Mirren Park.

Should Aberdeen leave Glasgow undefeated and 5 points or more in front then they have no choice. The season will be well underway and Aberdeen’s momentum will carry them at least until Easter. That’s unacceptable for most considering the gulf in resources.

I also believe some players are not playing for this manager any more and they are certainly not playing as a team. They might be looking to get him out.

It’s happened before at more than one club. Some fans will let off steam about that but ultimately when a new manager comes it’s promptly forgotten about. Look at Man U with Moyes for example.

As for Mr Pastry’s notion that Scotland will go out in October from the Euros and Gordon Strachan will be approached none of those things will come to pass.

In the first place Scotland don’t need to beat Poland if Ireland lose to the Germans which is the most likely outcome to that match. They are light years in front of Ireland and will win that match with ease as they did against Poland and Scotland. They are a machine.

I think if Scotland avoid defeat and Ireland lose their last two matches – which in my opinion is what will happen then a win in Gibraltar puts Scotland in a play-off which means November matches.

Strachan is going nowhere and I think he likes the lifestyle of managing Scotland giving him more time with his family. Listening to him after the Germany game he believes very firmly Scotland are still well in the group and I think the group will go to the last round of fixtures. I think he also wants to try and put England out of the World Cup however long a longshot that is.

Should Poland win in Scotland (entirely possible but just as possible that Scotland can take something from that match after drawing in Poland) then Scotland are out. But Strachan is in my view fiercely passionate about the national team and I think he wants to continue.

If Deila is to go no doubt we’ll see more Roy Keane stories with DD heavily involved.

The issue will be whoever DD says is getting the job will get it provided the manager is given backing to move things forward.

Awful hesitant defending …and poor goalkeeping

Aberdeen going down to ten men had no discernible impact on the game …
