  1. 6 games played, and 2 points behind, and Celtic have lost the league, according to some fans. God only knows how they manage to get through their day. I would wager the same pessimists were posting the same ill informed guff about Lennon, Strachan and MON especially after the meek surrender at Fir Park, remember, Celtic had some decent players that day, maybe MON couldn’t motivate those players who earned thousands more than the Motherwell players? Maybe MON had lost the dressing room. Perspective, perspective.

Have to agree, mate. The players are the ones to blame here. Said as much after Malmo.

They might not be as good as some we’ve seen. But there’s no excuse for lack of application-as TIMALOY29 pointed out,for example.

If any of that squad think they deserve a better stage than the one they have at Celtic,I suggest they GTF and find it. Meantime, they should be grateful for the chance they have been given. And start behaving like professionals.

Six games played, correct. By the time we play our seventh,we could well be eight points behind, not two.

I’m not suggesting that the league is over, far from it. The point that many of us are making is that the current situation is not good enough.

Yes,we have no divine right to success. But I think we can safely expect everyone at the club to do their best to provide it. And that, sadly, seems to be absent from one or two.

So two competitive defeats away from home and a bad draw versus Kilmarnock

hardly a disaster considering previous starts to a campaign as witnessed over many, many years.

Methinks a few arses need booted in that dressing room and if that means one or more big name prima donna types need punted out the door, then so be it!

No-one is bigger than the club and even a 2 or 3 goal reverse in Amsterdam will not be the end oof the world.

I’m 53 and have felt a helluva lot more despondent at this stage of a campaign than i do now.

Not saying everything is rosy and never a fan of the board as i feel they lack imagination and are coasting along. I’ve pretty much always thought our leaders at board level lack the ambition needed at a club like Celtic. With the exception of Fergus, and even felt he Held back at a time when he could have pushed on.

    Not much has changed.

except maybe the sense of expectation and entitlement of some of our fans.

That has increased since the MON years. Although we saw it happening in the late 60’s and mid 70’s. There are a fair amount of glory hunters with green scarves stuffed away in a drawer.

There are also periods when money is scarce and priorities mean attending fitba matches goes way down the list. We live in challenging times with low pay and in many cases no pay and sanctions.

Either way crowds have dipped up and down since 1888. The Lions didn’t play to sell out crowds every week. Far from it. The period of 60,000 crowds every week will go down as a blip in the same way as the era of the 130,000 to 147,000 crowds at Hampden.

Talk of Celts for Change 2 is so premature it’s actually laughable and the circumstances now are very different from the early 90’s. Is there anyone standing up and calling meetings to action on the overall state of the club?

i know there are always valid grievances and some sectional issues that require action. There are groups meeting to duscuss those, but we are talking a few score maybe a hundred??

Where is the huge groundswell and sense of utter frustration that we saw in the 90’s? Where is the leader to lead that change and more importanntly back it up with the cash needed?

Right now we are Heading for 5 in a row and some think it’s time to rip the club apart or spend huge amounts of money we don’t have? (I feel we lack quality up front and have done for years, but recognise cash has been squandered!)

    Anyway.

Right now I’m wondering who benefits most from that agenda?

I hope this does not come over as pompous but the truth is I have always been of a fairly realistic mindset. I think I remember things as how they were rather than via the selective memory process.

I remember in 1966 coming up from England to where I had only recently moved and went to see Celtic around Christmas. I was with family members who still go to the games currently. Anyway, I said to them that Celtic were a better side (IMO,obviously) than any of the top rated English sides I had seen down there. Here is the important point. They replied that it was good for them to hear this as they just took it for granted that English football was as good as was claimed and that Celtic were nothing special. They most certainly were not talking of Celtic as being the best team in Europe! The support then ( much smaller, I believe, than today`s ) were the same as now . Some enjoyed, some moaned and most did a bit of both.

I could go on but I know that entrenched minds will remain so and memories will be recalled more fondly than reality.

  7. According to Leigh Griffiths, Thomson explained he was running away from goal which is why it was only a yellow for Consadine. Now I’m pretty sure the man isn’t legally blind & unless Leigh is hard of hearing? Then the only other explanation must be……the Ref’s a liar.

  13. I wouldn’t think that defeats to Malmo, and Aberdeen give much of a reason to be optimistic on Thursday.

    I don’t get it.

I think its more likely another defeat, unless the players begin to realise their recent efforts are unacceptable.

    We will find out soon.

  14. Looking at the highlights, Considine should have been sent off.

However, morally speaking, we got a goal from it – I would only red card the defender if the penalty is missed.

On the laws of averages, Mulgrew’s handball and Boyata’s foul were 50-50. It was likely that one would be awarded.

    Hayes’ red card was fine.

I realise that I only saw highlights but I sometimes think that we have worse decisions made against us in Europe than in Scotland.

The point is that we shouldn’t get ourselves in situations where these decisions can be awarded.

Morally I agree but this is not the rule (Well according to Neil McCann anyway) ;)

Johnny Hayes was unlucky to see red but it did look bad at the time but how the officials missed Lustig being kicked in the head right in front of the technical area, I don’t know?

On the pen conceded by Boyota- The Aberdeen player was very cute, as it was he who made sure of any contact & took a dive. He pretty much conned a pen – Wonder if there will be any retrospective action taken as there was against Derk?

The only retrospective action required on that penalty is to show Boyata the incident ten times and have an adult coonversation:

‘Players looking for it and in Scotland the refs canny wait for it.

So get your head up and get out there and remember you are not a juvenile any more-‘

  19. Time to pick a starting 11 on form and have them commit to every moment, every tackle and keep their place only when merited and while fit. Rotation is at its worse when the defence is unsettled and needing protection.

We have a big squad to cope with injuries, to improve the average quality, to smooth out dips in form and to provide 3 quality replacements during a match. They don’t need to average the same amount of game time.

Aberdeen will continue to win matches while that 11 is fit. They will miss Hayes much more than we would miss any suspension. They will get injuries and they will drop many points, we need to rise to our level, not peg ourselves to theirs.

  21. So we’re currently 16 points from 7 games. This time last year we were 10 points from 5 games, with 2 in hand. So potentially er 16 points.

Remind me how last season panned out?

  22. There is no use moaning about Hun referees, that’s how its always been.

Traditionally we have overcome the cheating by having a good team, once you let the standards slip, its easier for the Hun refs to cheat us.

Get a better team…nullify the cheating.

  23. Hayes red card was spot on. He lunged with both feet off the ground.

Celtic pen was also a red card. He could score from there.

Mulgrew handball? Hard to say. It hit his hand for sure but it was in a “natural” position at his side. If Charlie leaned with his arm towards the ball I’d say yes but I couldn’t tell from the replay. 50-50.

Aberdeen penalty was a stonewall penalty. I agree that the Aberdeen player played for it but that’s not cheating. He puts himself between the ball and Boyata (which he is entitled to do). I’m more worried about Boyata steaming into him. Another game another error.

As for Lustig getting kicked in the head? I’d have given at least a yellow. Probably a red.

Aberdeen are stronger than last year and have won every game.

They have the media right behind them – think of McCann and his rule book and the damage stuff like that can do over a season.

    They’ve won every game.

They don’t face 11 men sitting in every week so they have room to play we are not afforded so we need to convert more chances and play well every week.

The manager’s comments about diet and fitness didn’t go over well last season, this season it is ”scared”

The referees are going to get worse because before their decisions didn’t change games – they have now and don’t think it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

We’ve lost our two best defenders from last season

3 Senior players came out and contradicted the manager and there is apparently a split dressing room.

I’d say those are big differences from this time last year.

I grant you it is early in the season but there are differences from last season to this.
