  1. Having said the above to TET if Paul’s next leader doesn’t lay blame at the door of the holder of the purse strings, I’ll have to consider my willingness to take part in this blog.

I think AEK knew our limitations as well; and not only that, they knew that our limitations were greater than theirs.

Watching the game tonight I was still amazed by how much we have progressed as a team under Rodgers (9 out of the 11 starters were there under Deila). The close control and qualities of individual players has increased exponentially under Rodgers.

Nevertheless, I thought AEK were waiting for a mistake to be made or for one opportunity to present itself. I would go as far to say that despite our possession and control of the game, AEK never looked as flustered as we did in the first 45 mins away to Rosenborg; and we applied a lot more pressure over the 90 mins tonight than Rosenborg managed in that first 45 in Norway.

The reason JF never went past the full back tonight was because he was facing backwards the entire game.

Could see that being a tactic if he had passed back then darted forward for return but all he did was pass backwards and watch.

No idea why the coaches did not change this stupid tactic or at least tell him to move or change his body angle so he could receive a positive pass.

I complete understand and share your frustration at the forelock tuggers whose complacency and hubris would have us sleepwalking into the same swamp of mediocrity inhabited by the Huns.

However the blog needs people like you to challenge the comfortable consensus. Constructive criticism and debate is healthy and in all the years I’ve lurked and posted on here I’ve enjoyed your contributions.

If people like you leave then this place becomes even more like a plc propaganda outlet. And all the poorer for that.

  7. THE HANDS CANT HIT WHAT THE EYES CANT SEE on 14TH AUGUST 2018 10:41 PM

I think you were watching a different game…exponentially.

  8. So, only the defence to blame then. No mention of the several decent goal opportunities spurned, which could have taken us through?

  9. Last week I made certain statements about how a good few of Rodger’s signings were sub-standard and I laid blame at BR’s door for that…but thinking back, all of those signings were £1M signings, and, you know what? I made a mistake, £1M signings don’t cut it anymore (with the odd miraculous exception). True quality, the quality required to take us to the level where we need to be, costs minimum £4-5M (if you get lucky). I mean, it’s just a real shame we don’t have loads of cash from two previous champions league campaigns and the commercial deals that fell on the back of them to call on…

  10. lets be honest our back 4 including the goalie are crap , no amount of coaching is going to improve them even KT is going backwards in his defending playing within this defence he is continually passing the ball backwards or inside in a mirror image of ML playing on the right hand side, KT imo looks disillusioned in his play lately.

  11. FRIESDORFER

I know what you mean mate but…if we were able to defend properly we only needed McGregor’s goal – AEK offered nothing other than a well organised defence. We gifted them their progress to the next round.

    ================================

Yes. agre, mostly. So what do you think is missing to give us the edge?

Physical? Is it an ability gap?

I don’t think so. Like you said, thaere’s a definite improvement in those 9 players.

I tend towards there being some undercurrent of mental deficiency in managing these matches of magnitude.

We seem to need time to get a mental grip on opponents, rather than approach them like we were the hammer and they the nails, as elite teams do. For periods of the games we look ‘out-psyched’.

    Your take?

  13. We are a better team when we have 2 up top, much more of a threat and should be used far more often.

Need a couple of Cb’s to accompany ajer who is getting better and can be very powerful presence.

Hendry need to find a few more levels if he is to force his way into the team long team.

Lustug has been great for us but we need a new Rb.

Middle to front we are find but need to be more direct get bodies in the box more often.

Last thing to say is i dont have problem with money being spent on lights, hotels or museums that is find by me as it does assist the being revenue in the longer term. i dont actually think it should be used to excuse the lack of signing.

The money is in the back and Boyata and amstrong were halfway out the door Last season. We should have stepped up months ago knowing that 16 million was on its way minus the vvd payment.

Another thing the europa leave is worth 12 million to the club, so should not be turning our noises up at that and potential ranking improvements if we can win a few,

  14. I have had many worse days as a Celtic supporter.

By all means have a whinge but let’s keep it in perspective

  15. THE EXILED TIM@10-22pm

I for one will be very disappointed if you chuck in the towel.

You are one of the reasons i am still on this blog though a lot less frequently.

Your honest appraisal of our ties with Rosenberg were refreshing compared to the turd polishing many on here indulged in.

We may not always have agreed but the honesty of your posts was refreshing.

  16. weebobbycollins on

We auld yins have experienced this scenario so many times before yet we never get used to it, in fact it becomes even harder to take…however, a couple of signings, a good performance and result against someone and we will be off and running again…

Another thing…I know it’s an emotional game but running into the net to retrieve the ball is daft…you saw what happened with Griff…could so easily spill over and end up with a red card…

Also, when we have a chance to break quickly and the ball is passed straight to feet instead of ahead of the attacker to run onto, it inevitably results in the ball being played back or sideways and the opportunity goes abegging…so frustrating…Oh well! Tomorrow is another day…

TET…emotions are running high. It happens, always….sleep on it…

  17. Blame the defence, blame the board, blame the manager, first shot on target the goal! at almost 80 mins!, not good enough from almost whole team.

  18. The No.13 Shorts on

Well, that predictably utter pish defending, weak midfielding, and disjoited attacking against a very average opponent. Bad luck and badder planning to blame at PLC and Brendan level. Seen it all before. Time to focus on winning the Sectarian Premier League.

Unchallenged tibia-crunching tackles will lose us the league if Brendan doesn’t compromise a bit on style over brawn and, equally, if the club don’t also call it out. Otherwise Rogic will have his leg broken before September is out. Overt, sniggering sectarianism is the name of the game this season more than ever before and the referees, the SFA and the media are leading the charge in operation stop-the-Catholic-irish-lording-it-over-us-at-all-costs.

Cardinal Winning once came out and said Scotlands First Minister Donald Dewar was an anti-Catholic bigot. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he was. Says it all about the climate in the Scottish cultural swamp though when that’s said on the record. That and the burying of statistics clearly showing the level of anti-Catholicism in crime statistics a few years back under Salmonds leadership tells you what we’re up against at establishment level.

The one positive to come out of all this so far is that thankfully, the theme of the season has been writ large early on. We need to sign a few combative players who can give it back with interest. I’ll be beeling if we’re all sitting here at the end of the season feeling cheated.

Please Celtic, please don’t say you weren’t warned that we’d be kicked f**k out of with impunity up and down the length and breadth of the best little country in the world this season. Just make sure you kick back just as hard and we’ll get to see the refereeing cheating and disparity for what it is.

  19. RON67 kt had a solid game and is a great talent, he is not to blame for the goals he managed his sude if the pitch well, the first goals had lustig’s failure to cut out cross and mcgregor not being swithed on.

Kt would be blowing out his hole if he did not pass ball inside and try to link up play for others.

Bhoy is a great talent and i am sude he once again set up a goals tonight with a lovely run and dink to sinky.

    ———————————————————————–

    DAVIDOPOULOS,

Absolutely NO chance of that! The weekend was a bit of an eye opener and an education for me regarding our host. Fully paid up member of the PL Politburo. ☹️

  23. I think we missed Dedryck Beckenbauer tonight who the Club said was injured on Saturday.

Well I suppose he’s not cuptied for Europe now. ?

  24. Absolutely gutted, I really thought we could do it.

In fact we should have been able to see off AEK over two legs.

Looking in from the outside, We lack motivation, we lack a game plan, we lack tactics than can adapt, we lack a credible co_coordinated defence, we lack the ability to take chances when the opportunity arises, we lack fight.

Yes lack of investment can be blamed, but the players, coaches, scouts and management team must shoulder the blame for another embarrassing European failure.

We sign a record breaking striker ( reputated circa £9m package ) and he is unfit. Is this just a coincidence that he joins the massed ranks of unfit Celtic players at the start of the season. Why so many, and how many times have we asked this ?. Is our training hazardous to general fitness ?

The Boyata shambles that may cost season ticket holders in their pockets.

I think BR is the best thing to happen to Celtic in recent years, and I trust he will get it right. But we have not learned from recent huge Euro defeats.

We need to learn fact and pick up the gauntlet. There will and must be casualties, it is the price of failure.

Even in Scotland as we speak our riivals are gaining momentum and learning.

In the words of an old school motto,” Nothing without work”. It has never been more evident.

Absolutely gutted, but HH to all.
