That £9million bid from Fulham starts to look like very shrewd business.
One of the roles of the manager is to know the mindset of your players. Brendan will learn from the Boyata debacle, he will feel embarrassed and let down (and not by PL)
To reiterate,I wouldn’t swap Brendan for any other manager but all areas off our club need to improve.
We are not a CL level team, but with that defence I’m not sure we would do much in the EL either.
If money isn’t spent on at least one defender in the next few days I predict trouble ahead…

Agreed. We were better team over two legs, they are no better than Hearts. We were mugged to be honest.
Not sure what happens next?
The rebuilding will need to be at the renovation level not refurbishment.
We need change at every level.
Quite a few of the longer term players need to go.
They just cannot do it in a CFC jersey anymore.
Need to start at the top and work our way down.
DD needs to get involved and show some leadership.
PL needs to go — give him a title and punt him upstairs to growl at the SFA.
BR needs to take of the L plates and get into this Euro lark.
SB needs to find some pasture so that he can graze in piece.
CG needs to man up — tears wont save you after a cheap goal.
AEK had everything we did not — a plan, a beating heart, fight, leadership and energy.
They did not have talent or class — however we proved that gets you nowhere in isolation.
EuL — not a given.

We have to go in the Europa League and build up our teams experience in Europe, players signed and give it our best shot, a year without any Euro football sees us back in the weeds and after all PL’s chat about Celtic having to stay relevant a few months back.

Would be a good bit of PR by the board if they announced that the home leg in the EL qualifier was an extra on the ST.

No. We pay our money and back the team. Not interested in freebies.
We all know we struggle defensively. The number of goals we lose at particularly bad times. First 5/10 minutes either side of half time is unbelievable. We seem to have lost focus time to get it sorted. Get rid of the dead wood even if it’s on free transfers. I wouldn’t like to hazard a guess at the amount of money we must be shelling out on players who barely make an appearance. Time to sort things out from top to bottom and if it means people have to go so be it.

they had us where they wanted us , better team or not our back 4 were shocking , and are not good enough defenders , maybe ok going forward but if you lose stupid goals you lose games. how many times do you have to pass the ball side to side and side to side again going nowhere at the back , then forward then back .

we are not a champions league team with this group of players, far from it
We need to regroup and make sure we are up for Saturday’s cup game.
In the season 2002/03, the season we won nothing and we still revel about going to Seville ( including myself), MON’s Celtic team lost the only CL qualifier that they had to play in, on away goals with Chris Sutton nearly scoring at the end, just like Jozo tonight.
However, we do need to strengthen the squad in my view.

The next 3 weeks will tell us a lot about our ambition and who holds the upper hand , BR or PL

In truth we have been out of our depth in CL group stages allbeit the kudos and cash have been welcome. The EL allows the team and BR the opportunity to learn in Europe and progression to the last 16 should be a reasonable target.
However if we have let , for example Dembele leave and fail to recruit a CH and RB then BR has lost and so have we.
The narrative is with Sevco at the moment. Ironically we are strong structurally and they are weak. They have thrown the dice and will duck and dive as long as they can. If we don’t take ownership of this over the next few weeks then there a great danger that the unimaginable happens.
PL is an arrogant t***pot who treats the average fan, ie 95% of us, with disdain. Most of the guys who come on here and defend him are either friends of his or get hospitality from him and have more than a few bob in the bank. Though there are a few other misguided souls.
If he was the one who briefed Chris McLaughlin regarding BR then he should have been put on immediate gardening leave.
He has been in the job 15 years. I’m sorry that is far too long for anyone to be in the same post. Stagnation creeps in and a sense of ‘ nobody else can do my job’ takes over. We need someone fresh in the job who has new ideas and is prepared to take a risk or two rather than worrying about their personal pension pot.
There is no doubt that the management appear to be defensively naïve and this needs to be addressed. I love Mik Lustig but the big man’s best days are behind him. It is no coincidence that a large percentage of the goals we lose in Europe come down that side.
Whether it’s CL or EL if you can’t defend you’re not going to progress.
Time to grasp the nettle and part with some cash Celtic. You could do worse than the previous suggestion of Terry and Huth. Both more than good enough for the SPFL and would steady the ship for Europe. If nothing is done I can see our domestic dominance going down the pan as well.

Disappointed, of course. Still, we might well be better off in the EL.
Can’t fault those who played for lack of effort. Boyatta should be forced to play for the rest of the season with the young lhads. See who is interested in him then.
One further point: our set pieces are a total disgrace. We offer virtually no threat from corners or free kicks any more. Given the nature of the modern game, and Brendan’s supposed laser-like planning, I cannot understand how we constantly get these so wrong.
The worry for me is that Sevco might be improving to the point that they might give us a run for our money. Saturday’s result was a bit of a wake up call so early in the season.
In all the years of following Celtic there has been one constant we never push on from a position of strength the board always seems to think less will be enough.Brendan has to accept some responsibility his signings and a stubbornness to change the system in European ties.Listening to Brendan after the game he perfectly summed up the mistakes made but they are the same mistakes we have been making in two years of Champions League football.Its difficult to know what is really going on behind the scenes but again posters on this site as early as January were saying Boyata is not going to extend his contract.If we could see it couldn’t Brendan and the board see it too.
With the boyata money and the sale of one other do we think then we’ll get some defenders

2 – extremely passive in defence. Go and stop a cross if you’re a full back. Be first to the ball as a centre half. Not rocket science.
3 – learn how to be effective from corners and set pieces. We are utterly inept!!

The board are untouchable, nominees are put forward when vacancies appear and a voted on at the AGM, but the block vote of the heavy hitters holds all the cards, we are barking at the moon if you think there is any chance of someone getting onto the board who would not be acceptable to the heavies on it. So the direction the club takes is in the hands of these people, I am not saying they agree on all things but they have control and will maintain control.Accountability to the heavies for those who do not come up with the goods is a different matter and I hope Mr Desmond is watching things very closely and deals with things robustly and clearly for the benefit of Celtic Football Club. I would like him to start this process now if he has not already done so.
In his interview BR said “you shouldn’t have to lose to learn” I’m sure that was not directed at the players.
I hope that was aimed squarely at the custodians.
I’ll go first…..a £2m project and 2 loan signings to keep everyone happy…..remaining £48m divided up appropriately

when planning for this seasons squad, outgoings should have been up there with getting 2 CBs in, Boyata was always going, Jozo a sick note, deVries,Comperr, Allan, Christie, Hayes out the door…

Brendan inherited a shambles for where a defence should be. He brought in Kolo Toure to get us through the qualifiers. An experienced, former top level, defender who coaxed and organised the others and we got to the CL group stages. There are at least two similarly experienced CHs that I can think of, free agents, who could stand between Ajer and Hendry, or Simunovic, or even KT, and talk them through a game. John Terry or Robert Huth. We wouldn’t have lost any goals v AEK if we had someone like them in the back three. Zero transfer fee, £40m CL pot!!!!!

For me no man is bigger than the club , so for that reason both Brendan and Peter should go. Both are egomaniacs. There is only one winner here and that is the Huns. Pack of cards right enough !
I wrote the other day abouyt BR’s error of judgement: be careful when starting a fire; something that looks innocuous and controllable can quickly burn down your house.
Who’d have though a game against Partick Thistle will be quickly hyped up in to a…..I can’t even begin to imagine the hype going in to this game.
As an aside aside, if AEK are ‘average’ what is the benchmark against which they are measured? As far as I could see, over two legs they were light years ahead of SPL opposition som the comparison must be against something different.
