Fundamentally we are setup to attack , we are very open , and with the various chopping and changing with the centre halves , the defensive problems are largely how we are setup as a team.
The reason we can’t sign / get centre halves is that our requirements are for ball playing , build from the back types rather than a big lump to sit in the middle of a tight 4.
If you were playing us which wing would you attack , correct not Kieran’s , so obvious most stuff will come down our right flank , Mikeal is steady , experienced big ghuy but he does give away that yard to get a cross – we should get help out there and force the oppo back in field …. seems to me we don’t really do anything in these Games to counter the likely opposition tactics.
A couple of better centre halves will help but a more pragmatic approach is needed

Another painful watch tonight.
We flatter to deceive but when you listen to guys like Sutton, Petrov, and Hartson you would think Celtic played in quarter finals and semi finals of the European Cup during their time with us.
I remember games when we were generally a goal down after five minutes away from home in away games.
I remember one game where we were three down after 20 minutes.
During their time we were just about in touching distance of the giants of the game but that was fifteen years ago. That’s fifteen years of the top leagues getting an average of £15M-£20M a year and then they have their domestic TV money on top of that.
Do the maths and you see why we are on the end of 5 and 6 goal hammerings.
Having said that we should never stop having ambition but ambition can only take you so far.
For people to say Gordon didn’t have a save to make is nonsense! we lost the tie 3-2 so he had at least three saves to make. What I would say is that due to the dreadful defending in front of him he had no chance with any of the goals.
We should have ambition but to go with that there needs to be a clear strategic pathway for tactics, and acquisitions. This has been a huge let down from all concerned. Rodgers has improved the squad since his arrival but the loss of players to the World Cup, injuries to key players, and bad individual mistakes have done for us.
there now needs to be an internal discussion regarding what went wrong, an understanding reached on where responsibilities start and end, targets specified MUST have a price attached to them that we go no higher for. If a player that we want goes to another team for less than that upper limit then someone gets the sack and if that is Peter Lawwell then so be it.
There is no point in signing a massive deal with Dafabet if identified players within our price range and specified by our manager, regardless of who they are, don’t end up wearing the Hoops.
While Lawwell is in charge of the purse strings it is not his money. It is the clubs money, our money and sponsorship deals are signed on the back of improved team performance based on team improvement by the manager and our financial backing.

Not read back.
Take this as read:
Doesn’t come much easier in terms of ‘tough’ CL qualificaqtion ties than that.
Insipid effort.
AEK are not even an average CL team; they’re a bunch of well-organised scrappers who play the margins; they’re hardly much more of a challenge than Hibs.
They got the break of the ball big-time tonight – FIRST goal, Lustig blocks the cross, it spins ridiculously on the spot, and back into their winger’s path to make the ‘killer’ cutback half our team watched trundle across the box.
However, depite the ineptitud eof our defending for the second – young Hendry WAy out of his depth – we should have won the game alone around 5-2.
Why don’t we?
Because we seem to have adapted a VERy casual approach to matches wher ea sharp edge makes all the difference.
In the CL under Strachan and Lenny our players were at tit form the first whistle, like starving greyhounds out the traps, high tempo, relentless pressing, shifting the ball as fast as their ability allowed; it was the ONLY way to counter the natural class we faced.
Whether Brendan lacks that ability to set his team up propelr yto win at this level is STILL up for debate.
Soon as the whistle went tonight I felt my heart sink; winnable game, inferior opposition, asking to be pummelled; we sit back and let them settle.
The talk of investment and the condemnation of the board is moot.
THAT was opposition we should have taken care of with any squad of the past two seasons.
That route to the CL was a GIFT.
We appear to have developed a worrying complaceny that TOP sides do not carry.
The whole two legs has been a regressive Deila-esque. All talk, infrequent flair, waiting for the players we know to actually show up, ultimate mess.
Either BR has been found out at this level or the players are not good enough.
Couldn’t care less about their wee personal psychodramas – they represent Celtic, and a body of people desperate to back real commitment to the cause.
Either way, the malaise needs bursting soon.
I have as much enthusiasm for rating the team as they have for for the fight.; i.e I can’t be f###ed.

Given what BR has said over the last week there must be a decent chance he’ll resign.
His own managerial reputation will have taken a serious hit tonight, and Lord knows he won’t want the humiliation losing to a SlippyG-inspired Sevco.
But unless there is serious money spent on the team right now, this season is going to be touch and go domestically. We saw last season that even the SPFL dross could shut us out on occasion. Hearts and even Livi have caused us defensive problems this season already.
But will PL loosen the purse strings – or will we batten down the hatches, sell Boyatta, and make do with what we’ve got.
That option must be unpalatable to BR. Just as spending big now will be unpalatable to PL.

Well played Celtic,bad luck.
Considering the backdrop of injuries, long term, short term, and imagined, plus an unstinting barrage of negative publicity,I felt the team put in a good effort against a team whose biggest asset was defending.
Although it will be stated as a disaster we have lost CL money,is it, we do nothing with it,so what we have done tonight is lost a pot of money we wouldn’t use,and potentially avoided a few embarrassing hammerings, which undermines morale in the team and supporters.
Once we adequately staff the team, that is when we should go forward into the big time.

Sorry Sandman, but you can’t just put down AEK in order to build momentum for the false argument that Brendan is out of his depth and this all rests on his shoulders.
AEK won the greek league last year and only conceded 12 goals in 30 games. They qualified for the Europa League beating Club Brugge 3-0 on aggregate. They picked up 8 points in the group phase (5 draws and 1 win) in a group containing AC Milan. They went out 1-1 on aggregate (away goals) to Dynamo Kiev. They are unbeaten in 12 European games.
