AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

The newspapers are heading the same way and we want to be there to be the main source of Celtic news and we want to replace the MSM as a principal source of Celtic news and opinion.

    Hi Winning Captain!

Credit where it’s due… As a poster who has referred to CQN as ‘Ad-Infested’ (on my mobile), I have to tell you that CQN is already my principal source of Celtic news and opinion and has been for around a decade or more! Thank you and Thank Paul!!! ☺

I don’t ever click on any SMSM link or buy their chip-wrappers; all credit to CQN! ☺

I like the sound of a blog-comments-only App, and I would be quite happy to pay a subscription. A mere £1 a month for example would give CQN an income of £2.4M a year when they reach their 200K target and I think most people on here would trust CQN to use this income wisely and with integrity; quite unlike the SMSM or the SFA! Go for it, you know you want to! ☺ After all, we used to pay the SMSM circa £10 a month for the abused privilege. This would also have the added benefit of making the SMSM and hunterlopers pay for the privilege of finding out what CQN and the ‘CQN Internet Bampots’ are up to… What’s not to like?

    Yours in Celtic,

    TB&F.

  2. CQN, some problems with the new site, of course it has.

It’s new, and change can be problematic.

Some bams clog it up, of course, they always did.

    Winning Captains, Paul67, thanks.

This is still the best forum for debate, leg pulling, venting, socialising, discussing all thing Celtic, Football, politics there is.

PS, it’s very mild in Germany.

  3. I remember when cqn was a questioning vibrant blog. Now it’s all sychophants fanning over Paul’s latest missive. Despite the fact he was as weak as, well so,etching very weak.

We aren’t just spiralling down on the pitch I guess.

    Sad indeed.

  4. Neganon2, sure, that’s soooooo very fawning. Your comments are almost sycophantic!

    But they are allowed.

    All are free to comment.

thought Paul did a great job on the show! set the tone nicely without sticking his neck out too far. The point about info/data withheld from LNS was made well but i think needed more concrete examples – the panel shrugged it off as “rangers have already been fined for side letters” . What else, specifically, was withheld which may alter LNS judgment.

Why is Murdo so bitter? can you imagine an ex rangers player in the same situ with a rangers fan blog – it would be pats on the back and nice hand shakes. Murdo comes across hostile for some reason. He actually said the fitness of the players is all down to the fitness coach – nothing to do with Deila demanding a better and more scientific lifestyle approach to fitness. walloper!

Tom English should know what was witheld unless he never received a hard copy of the papers sent to him last year.

  6. St stivs you ar right. Pauls fear of the racists is betraying him and us. He isn’t the first nor the last.

We are a cowed group. Scare to point out the racism. Wow. How shameful is that.

Scared to point out their racism.

Doc. Coming to,q blog near you soon. No dissent allowed.

    It’s coming. Are you ready?

  7. CQN turnover seems way down say compared to last year’s AGM eve. I guess the pop up miscreant ad links are weeding out the usual computer literate :)

    or

maybe everyone already knows the outcome of tomorrows AGM :) and there is an air of resignation (can you say resignation on CQN?) and that leaves just us mentally disturbed pachyderms

No 67 heaven I just don’t buy into the desperate sychophancy on display here. He ducked the issue. Didn’t address the question, said we are jumping the gun.

Where was the clear message that, of no,appeal then titles should be stripped as a consequence. Dead simple, what Paul purportedly believes. But no……..

I remember Paul last year getting all old for my on the news wires about the Huns game.

All those words on the site. All fall away.

    ========

Right from the off I thought the LNS Commission based on player registration irregularities had jumped the gun.

If you recall the feeling as result of discussions on RTC and here was that ebts were illegal and so Rangers were guilty of paying players by an illegal means. In the days of cash it was a brown envelope.

If found guilty of that charge it would have been impossible not to void titles.

History has shown that LNS (apart from being misled) was indeed too hasty.

Yet you come on and chastise Celtic for not acting in haste!

You must be one of those guys who does not learn the lessons of history and so repeats them.

No one has worked harder than I to have LNS overturned because I believe it removed the greatest ever deterrent to cheating ie the removal of the ill gotten gains won by it, but even I recognise the futility and stupidity of acting prematurely.

If it’s one more round of appeals then so be it. If it isnt then let’s have another look based on all the evidence and see where that takes us.

That approach simply cannot be argued against. To demand a punishment before establishing clearly if there is something to punish can, which stops what should happen from happening.

  9. Auldheid

As you know I appreciate all your efforts on res12. However, I am not sure there will be any consequences. Ideally title and trophy stripping and SFA dismantling. Everything regrading EBT’s and SFA cheating will be proven. However, at best I think there will just be a few sacrificial succulent lambs.

  10. Auldheid like Margaret I agree that you have made magnificent efforts.

But equally unless we ar ready and willing to be brave. This opportunity will pass.

When is enough enough Auldheid. Your ongoing desire to bury your anger is admirable. But a bonfire kills all. Including hope.

When are we brave enough to to say no more?

  11. Murdo seemed inarticulate, dull and too desperate to be right on all he said.

Ricky Wilson seemed quite balanced and at times led the defence of Celtic.

English was a schoolboyish smart alec sniggerer and had nothing intelligent to say.

Paul was balanced and considered. He did not just defend the club on all topics.

Murdo and English were know it alls and really knew hee haw.

    NOWA

  12. NEGANON2

On the matter of no basis to revisit the previous Commission because no rules exist to allow it:

In the LNS Commission there was a bit of conflating going on.

The obvious one was treating the illegal DOS ebts as legal. LNS recognised there were two ebt trusts. The REBT (Rangers Employee Benefits Trust) and The MGMBT Murray Group Management Benefit Trust but he treated them as “continuous” that is one led into the other and the other had by the time LNS had finished his investigation been deemed legal.

Had paperwork that clearly set out the illegal nature of DOS ebts been provided the ToRs of the Commission could not have been what they were and LNS could not have treated as continuous.

The other conflation was equating irregular registration with ineligibility.

Bryson testified that once a registration had been accepted, even though incomplete, the player was eligible to play.

However LNS having heard Bryson’s interpretation did say that there might be extreme cases where there was a fundamental defect that a players REGISTRATION would be INVALID FROM THE OUTSET.

Thus even although Bryson argued a player was eligible from the point his registration was accepted the SPL lawyer never asked if in such extreme cases Bryson would agree that a player was in fact ineligible from the outset.

The lawyer got some blame on SFM from not asking this but as the Commission was operating on the premise this was not an extreme case then he could hardly have asked if invalid registration from the outset meant ineligible from the outset.

What we appear to have, subject to appeal, is an extreme case involving a fundamental defect and that needs to be confirmed as does the eligibility question in such circumstances.

Only a new enquiry using all available evidence including SDM’s testimony to the FTT about why he decided to use ebts and the circumstances in which key paperwork was surpressed can do that and there are rules about supplying documentation to allow an enquiry to get underway.

  13. NEGANON2

I let my brain do my thinking, not my heart.

No point getting angry at the folk you depend on to get the result you seek.

I haven’t listened to Paul’s comments, but he was faced by a phalanx of opponents who would have been doing their best to goad him into intemperate comments.

Merely pointing out that guilt requires punishment once it has been established is enough to set them off.

Paul appears to have avoided demanding sanctions while there is still a semblance of doubt. No hang-em and flog-em outbursts for the oppo to nail him on.

    For that,I congratulate him.

    I’ll listen to it later,btw.

Paul’s “opponents” on the night – Murdo who goaded like a peshed guy in a bar and English who goaded through sarcasm and smirks. The phrase “two cheeks of the same erchie” seems about right

We shouldn’t be having to justify the removal of trophies won in the way they were by Rangers.

    That’s just a disgrace.

Nowhere else in the world would have its establishment lining up foursquare behind a bunch of long-term cheating bastards, and calling out any dissent or calls for justice as bigotry and bullying.
