AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

  1. Celtic chairman Ian Bankier blasts some of the abuse received by Ian Livingston and says “The personal abuse against Ian Livingston is diametrically opposed to ethos of this club”.

  2. Claims that some of the abuse aimed at Livingston was racist… seriously? A white Tory stooge being on the end of racist abuse?

Celtic fan at #ticagm laying into board about re-election of Lord Ian Livingston – who just voted with Tories on tax credit cuts.

Celtic chairman spitting the dummy now claiming that attack on him is personal and abusive.

Great speech. Why are you asking us to vote for a man whose day job is the impoverishment of our citizens.

Board and in particular chairman taking a battering from the Celtic shareholder over recommedation to re-appoint Livingston.

“You Mr Chairman have failed the origins of this club by recommending his reappointment”

  3. Genuine question.. What does DD bring to the club? Does he use his business experience to help the club? Does his business contacts aid the club? Does his finances help the club?

  4. MH – of the 140 staff affected only 3 members of staff weren’t happy with Celtic implementing £7:85 living wage #TicAGM –

*mibbees it affected other monies they were receiving.

  5. Dave Moxham, director of Scottish Living Wage campaign is talking about the progress Celtic have made in past 12 months. The suggestion is that it would cost Celtic £2000 per match to implement the Living Wage to it’s employees.

  6. yorkbhoy on 20th November 2015 11:32 am Genuine question.. What does DD bring to the club? Does he use his business experience to help the club? Does his business contacts aid the club? Does his finances help the club?

*he bankrolled the Blessed MON without the use of EBT’s

  7. Bankier – clubs position is set out in the video so we recommend against.

Shouts of “I’m disappointed”. Bankier says “touche”.

  8. First shareholder calls into question the governance of the club regarding resolution 12. The fans have been cheated and I just wish the board had the fire in the belly you had a while ago when defending Livingston.

    Bankier and a SH having a ding-dong -)))

  9. The shareholder demands Bankier withdraws the remark that suggested he was guilty of insulting Livingston. Bankier does so.

Back to resolution 12. The shareholder wants to know why the club didn’t put forward res 12, which of course is the granting of a European license a few years ago in the face of owing the tax man.

Soft, the Celtic Trust guys will be soiling there pants with all this, lol

Any chance you could post on this blog without personal insults ?

You drag what can be a great blog for many reasons in to the gutter with your nonsense, by all means disagree, but do it in the Celtic way

  11. Peter Lawwell: We are liasing with the people who brought up Resolution 12 and they are happy with what we are doing.

But on the point of a lack of fire in our belly, everything we do is in the best interests of Celtic.

  12. Someone Buy this shareholder a pint

Only thing is bankier lawell will have 1 tough afternoon to earn there big fat yearly salery..not nad work if you can get it.

  13. A shareholder backs the board over Livingston:

‘I don’t agree with everyone’s politics, whether it’s Brian Wilson or whoever.

‘But on the point of the governance of the club, I’ll say this: I come up that Celtic Way and remember how this place used to look. It’s magnificent.

‘I want to talk about the football. We were cheated out of the chance to win the treble last season. Mr Deila is doing a grand job and needs more time.’

  14. Electronic Tims ‏@ETimsNet 35s36 seconds ago

As others have said, I had no idea until today Livingston is Jewish. Bankier must resign following his appalling slur on supporters.

  15. Everything celtic do is the best interest of Peter lawells pension plan

No way he do anything that might rock that

Resolution 12 if pushed by celtic would push Peter out of the SFA and he knows that

Poor financial results caused by lack of planning for CL qualifiers

Go lawell you are a failure

  16. Have missed the AGM, as what at the funeral this morning of Billy Simon

Had to laugh at the eulogy, as Billy and a group of fellow Bhoys (9 of them) from Cowie, tried to get to Seville, the comment the hotel they booked in Spain was closer to Cowie than Seville, had the church in laughter, well done Joe

    Anyway

    Timbhoy3

    Very Hooooopy 72nd Birthday

    Hail Hail

  17. Not been on all week so playing catch up , the records article that led to ” sinister & inflammatory” is shocking though not suprisin ,buckle in IMHO Traynor level 5 and the SMSM know no bounds and have much further levels to go down in defence of the illeagal tax teams newclub,

ps HOOOOOOOOOOOOPY Birthday to any CQNrs I missed

  18. And just a personal opinion,

If Peter Lawell has stated our scouting should be applauded

There in lays one of our biggest problems

How many of the 13 players signed since Ronny joined are getting a regular game ?

  19. One shareholder wants Derk Boerrigter binned. A unanimous “hear, hear” agreement rises from the floor.

    WHO? -)))

  20. lionroars67 on 20th November 2015 11:59 am

It’s only a slur if it isn’t true. I suspect there’s at least one example showing that it is. In a support our size it shouldn’t be surprising.

  21. Peter Lawwell responds when one shareholder asks about the downsizing of the club.

‘Downsizing? Our players’ wage bill this season will be the same this season as they were in Seville. We’re paying the same but with inflation our pound is worth less. So we need to be clever and continue to find undervalued players. The ones we have sold to England recently are now earning four to five times more down there. That’s what we’re up against.’

‘The player you mentioned there (Boerrigter) may have been a failure but we have had many more successes’.

  22. WEEMINGER on 20TH NOVEMBER 2015 12:11 PM

Im sorry completely disagree, the objections to Ian Livingstone from the floor of the AGM were in regard to Mr Livingston’s politics, not his religion, it is quite clear the chairman has made a gross error of judgement here by trying to deflect the argument away from Mr Livingston political views by using a spurious claim of racism.

Res 12 requisitioner up. Reassuring the support that Celtic are working with them and they’re happy with support they’re getting #ticagm
