AGM ahead

974

Are you looking forward to the AGM tomorrow? As always on these occasions, the questions after the votes will be far more interesting than the formal business of the day. The Living Wage appears on the agenda for the third year, courtesy of the Trust. Celtic now pay at or above Living Wage rates, although they have not signed up to the Foundation and the pay increase for lower-waged members of staff was accompanied with the withdrawal of a discretionary bonus.

Not sure what the cost of this was, or the impact on staff, but we’ll no doubt hear about it tomorrow. I should also say that I’m not signed up to the Living Wage Foundation either, as it has no relevance for my business.

The performance of the team (imperious domestically, impervious to improvement in Europe) will be the central concern from the hall. Celtic are a Champions League club, this is our focus. We need to be competing on that platform regularly.

I expect, and hope, shareholders get an update on Resolution 12, which looks increasingly relevant. You can bet questions will also be asked on whether or not there was a conspiracy to break tax, SPL and SFA rules, and to subvert an SPL Commission.

There’s not a great deal Celtic can say on this matter for now, beyond their statement last week.

Many thanks to Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney for joining us on the blog last night. These events see the blog at its best and last night’s was no exception. You can buy Brendan’s book, Celtic: The Early Years, or Alex Gordon’s latest, The Winds of Change, Managing Celtic from 1991-2005, at the CQN Bookstore.

  1. CultsBhoy likes living wage hates heated driveways on

The Board and fan shareholders may be sitting in the same room but it clear they are miles apart and becoming increasingly distanced…

A dangerous game for the long term of the club imo

Obviously I’m only following on Twitter but my reading of Bankier’s statement is that either the club or Livingston have received comments since the Tax Credits vote from fans that were not within the ethos of the club. I didn’t think he was talking about comments made directly at the AGM.

  4. A shareholder, a retired art teacher, commends the club on the stadium, the Celtic Way and the signage. But he says there is one thing missing. A sign honouring Fergus McCann. He was the man behind the new Celtic Park and deserves recognition of that.

  5. The votes are being cast now on the two resolutions that have gone to a poll and the results will be published later on the oficial website.

  6. Usual AGM fare.

Hghlight was Bankier close to crocodile tears. Move over Gerard Butler. Lol. The man is a dobber.

Anyway onto the best bit of AGM day. A few large lagers in a Celtic friendly establishment.

    Mon the leather belts.

  7. Well done Chairman Bankier, he’s written Level 5s headlines for tomorrow.

    Celtic Fans Racially Abuse Director.

  8. If anyone feels they are being racially abused they have recourse to the law of the land, I have no doubt Ian Livingston knows this, if Bankier has accused people of being racist he needs to bring the evidence of this.

  9. Lord Ian Livistone of Parkhead. Tory policy maker and Friend of Israel left with a flee in his ear.

    Quite right too.

  10. Gary67 on 20th November 2015 12:37 pm

While above I’ve suggested that I doubt he’s making it up, as some have implied he didn’t need to give that level of detail, and I agree he’s handed headlines to the gutter rats.

If he had to say anything at all he could have just said “Some of the abuse was beyond the pale and notwithin the ethos of the club”

  11. Lawwell, fanny

    Bankier, fanny

    Livingston, fanny

Big Derk, a wealthy fanny (oh an he’s no THAT stoopit)

  12. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Ffs,did Bankier really suggest that the people present have a problem with Livingstone due to racism?

I seriously hope that was not the case.

The guy has been a waste of space from day one,but I don’t want him to be a total embarrassment.

  13. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Just had the most marvellous chat wi TOMMIE20.

I was wondering where he had been, turns out he had had a wee mishap,a fall.

His arse is black and blue. Could be worse ,it could be Black and Tan.we’d have to shoot it.

He’s on the mend, might need some sedatives after talking to me,mind.

    And he agrees…

The huns cheated, get them tae,and everyone who protected them anaw.

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Well I know many on CQN will not agree with me but I was very pleased to hear our CEO saying that Ronny was going no where. This is the type of support Ronny needs to continue building his Celtic team.Stability in my opinion will eventually see Ronny succeed not only in Scotland but also in Europe. H.H.

Our ceo was hardly going to admit publically to one of the worst mistakes in sports administration ever.

Of course he is going to talk ronny up.they will go down together

  17. Joe Filippis Haircut on

WHAT IS THE STARS. I prefer to think they will succeed together Ronny is in my opinion the right man for Celtic and he is no mistake. H.H.

  18. JFH

Yip, I am and always have been in the RD camp, change takes time, given the proper resources, he will get there, but if he doesn’t get the players he wants, he will be gone.

    Joe Fillipi’s

There will be some CQN’rs that agree with you and the ole CEO, ‘that Ronny is going nowhere’.

    ——————————–

“Ronny is going nowhere” could be read in at least 2 different ways. I suspect WITS inference might be different from mine!

    :-))

  20. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Bankier is in a really difficult position now,I feel.

Our club has never had any bar regarding religion, and questions which have been asked regarding a man’s suitability for a role in our club have never,as far as I am aware, come down to that.

We have a proud tradition of employing anyone who is good enough to do a job for us-admittedly,in the West of Scotland, that usually means employing both Catholics and Protestants.

Didn’t stop us employing black,Indian,Jewish players.

I’m quite sure we have employed people of all ethnic and religious backgrounds since, whether it be on the park,or behind the scenes,or even in the boardroom.

Playing the race card to defend the indefensible is frankly lower than even I thought Bankier was capable of,and I confess I thought from day one his name was a stuttering form of rhyming slang.

Livingston voted with his conscience. I have no problem with that.

Bankier went miles too far,and his position is now untenable.
