Celtic’s Annual General Meeting, held at Celtic Park today, was a livelier event than usual. The board received a hostile response to their refusal to back a resolution to provide all staff with at least the Living Wage. Several impassioned points were made from the floor, which convinced chairman, Ian Bankier, to dispense with his prepared response and provide answers to specific questions.
The vote went against the resolution based on the proxy votes cast by the chairman but the board have never lost the floor so convincingly on any prior issue.
Resolution 12, encouraging the club to purse the game’s authorities on matters relating to the governance of liquidated Rangers was adjourned indefinitely by the requisitioners. On proposing the adjournment, a spokesman for the requisitioners (our own Morrissey23) explained that they had met the club and received information not previously known, and that further meetings were planned.
Fergus McCann made an unexpected contribution to the AGM by email through the chairman, extoling the virtues of financial director, Eric Riley, who he commended for 19 years’ service in pursuing Celtic’s interests. Fergus asked for, and got, an applause for Eric Riley, which resulted in the first unanimous show of hands to re-elect a director I have seen at a Celtic AGM.
AGM questions can be a tortuous affair but they were on the money this year. We had poetry, questions about financial governance including a question as to whether the club owns all of it’s perceived property assets. Ian Bankier confirmed it did, before planting his tongue in his cheek to insist “I’m not going to show you the deeds”.
When one shareholder expressed frustration that a new Scottish club is pretending to be a now liquidated club, chief executive, Peter Lawwell, retorted, “Rory Bremner can pretend to be Tony Blair”.
Many thanks for the many CQN Annual orders, which are now shipping. You can order here:

Great phrase from earlier this morning…(sorry cant remember who)
‘PL perhaps being a trifle Machiavellian’.
Hope he was and if so, much smarter than that arrogant git Murray, who tried to put us down at every turn, with his lamb munching puppies doing the running for him.

Auschwitz holds not simply lessons from the past, but lessons for the future, says Alexander
13 November 2013
Paisley and Renfrewshire South MP and Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander yesterday (Tuesday) was part of a delegation visiting Auschwitz.
Douglas Alexander joined the delegation as Shadow Foreign Secretary to help highlight the present risk of a return of anti-Semitism, as fears grow about the rise of extreme nationalist right wing nationalist parties in Europe, such as Golden Dawn in Greece and Jobbik in Hungary.
Douglas Alexander said:
“Words cannot adequately express the horror of what took place at Auschwitz.
“It holds not simply lessons from the past, but lessons for the future.
“Only months ahead of the European elections, extremist right wing nationalist parties, like Golden Dawn in Greece and Jobbik in Hungary, are on the rise across Europe.
“This is not simply a challenge on the European continent. Last year there were 640 anti-Semitic incidents recorded across the UK.
“Countering anti-Semitism is not simply a task for the Jewish people. It is the responsibility of all of us. Politicians must be prepared to take steps to highlight this issue and speak up and speak out against the rise in anti-Semitism.”
ENDS
By arrangement, the delegation included two Labour MPs, one Conservative MP and one Liberal Democrat MP and as a consequence did not affect the outcome of yesterday’s Opposition Day Motion on the Bedroom Tax.

FFers contemplate the future for Werder Bremner:
“what next if the axis defeat the allies at the AGM?
Supporters barricade the front doors – physically don’t let them back into Ibrox. This mob need to be removed, and swiftly, and if this doesn’t happen at the AGM, we need to take matters into our own hands – if that includes drastic action such as refusing them entry to the premises, so be it. If we allow them to carry on as is, we’ll be stone dead this time next year.”
——
“We’ll need to seriously consider starving them out. Simple as that.”
——
“The only hope would be that they can be bought out.
I reckon this would cost £70m, based on Green wanting £14m for ten percent.”

My Da voted Labour into his seventies until it dawned on him that a Vote for Labour meant a Tory government was the usual result. He then voted SNP who he hated when he was younger and he called them ‘Tartan Tories’ . Which was right at the time but since then there has substantial changes and it is a left of centre party now. Another reason he stopped voting Labour was that they had been the party for many years in the most impoverished areas in the
West of Scotland like, Shettleson, Bridgeton, Springburn and Drumchapel. Where the folk are doing well if they live to their sixties.
Btw when he was out of work which was quite often he could still afford to go and see Celtic at Parkhead. Could’t do that now.

While I am, like every Celtic supporter, I presume, in favour of the Living Wage, I hope the Board is sceptical and wary of the Celtic Trust, who are far too obviously politically motivated, imo. We are supposed to be inclusive, and that, imo, includes all shades of political opinion. The far left republicans reflect only one section of the Celtic support and, imo, only a small part.
I am a passive member of the Trust.
Far from being a rabid left wing republican, I am simply someone who has spent a lifetime seeking social justice for all.
As far as I as an individual am concerned, the Resolution did not go far enough. As the spiritual descendants of Walfrid, we should be looking to pay our employees something better than the statutory minimum.
“I reckon this would cost £70m, based on Green wanting £14m for ten percent.”
Never been the best with numbers over there :-)
ROW Z @ 13:24,
“flaw in your thesis
In ‘Eddie’ you have described 2 entities. In RFC 1872 there was only ever 1 entity. It liquidated therefore ceased to exist. It did not separate or sub-divide. It died. End of.”
Sure there are two Legal entities but the Administrators sold off the Snooker “Club” with all it’a assets to entity #2 before entity #1 got liquidated.
For all intents and purposes as far as the punters and Snooker players are concerned it’s one Club, sure they miss aul’ Eddie from behind the Bar but so what… the Club carries on perfectly legally.
The thing is you can’t do this in Football, not that it’s illegal as such but because the Footballing Authorities don’t allow it, they won’t offer membership or license a Club that has gone bust and won’t let them participate in their Competitions.
The SFA should have made this clear when RFC went bust and a new Club started up in their place.
Now let’s look at Stephbhoy’s point he says ” sfa are a very small organisation that works within a much wider context of company law. the sfa don’t decide anything about this stuff so anything they say is irrelevant, unless they wish to change company law”
To a great extent he is correct but what if the SFA were to state that when SevCo bought the Assets of RFC, they got the SFA membership and all sporting rights so they regard NewCo as the same Club as Rangers 1872, it wouldn’t be right but would it be illegal?
That is why the SFA are key to this process.
As far as I’m concerned the reasons why RFC 1872 got a UEFA licence in 2011/12 is water under the bridge.
What we should be asking the SFA is – Can a Football Club pass it’s debts onto another legal entity to avoid paying them? Can the ownership of a Football Club be passed from one legal entity to another to avoid liquidation?
Hail Hail
Folks.
An observation that I would hope will not be lost on any Celtic fan including those who sit in or around the board.
The arrival of the internet has dramatically changed the way football fans support.
CQN is effectively a virtual CSC with an online community who bring all sorts of beliefs, politics, experiences, backgrounds, expertise and at times ignorance.
Don’t forget ignorance, because sometimes people genuinely remain ignorant of certain perspectives, events, points of view, difficulties and so on.
Accordingly, such a community can help clear up ignorance and fill in gaps in your knowledge.
In the course of one of the meetings last week I was asked about CQN in particular and if there were a group of us who came together to go over things like the licensing rules and so on.
My response was to say the CQN had a very strong and very mixed breadth of knowledge which never ceased to astonish me in terms of not only the knowledge people have, the things that they can do and most importantly the help you can get if you need to know something or get advice on something.
I described it as a great resource– socially, educationally, recreationally, virtually and in reality.
Of course CQN is not the only Celtic internet site and I am sure that others such as Kerrydale Street, and any number of others are just as broad, passionate and knowledgeable.
However, the point that I am making is this.
In the past week or more we have seen The Celtic fans move in various ways to make a point or at least try.
The protests outside the Dutch Embassies, the work of Celtic Research on twitter ( whose motto is Dig, Dig, Digging ), the actions of FAC and The Celtic Trust re the statements for Amsterdam, The Kano Foundation ( had to include Sannabhoy ) and oh so many more.
CQN is however our home amidst all those online entities and the site is in the throws of really trying to move on in terms of the CQN10 Dinner, the magazine, annuals, books, as well as playing a roll in charity events which are organised in and around the club.
Given all that is going on, and within the channels and avenues that are available to us within the confines of the site— please let us know if there is something you want us to tackle in terms of the magazine, what you think of the annual when it arrives and so on.
I believe the annual is a fantastic publication and I will say something that needs saying time and time again.
Many of you will not know Winning Captains — he sort of keeps himself to himself– but by God does he work at that magazine and various other things such as the ASA issue and writing off his own back to the Dutch Embassy for an official response to the events in Amsterdam.
He threw out a wee throw away line during the week which said something along the lines of ” The Dutch Police have chosen to mess with the wrong support”.
That may sound a little like drum beating but in reality I think the Celtic support are very good at coming together way beyond the match experience and not everyone in or around football realises that——- until a situation arises whereby they are forced to come face to face with an organised Celtic support.
I should also add that between attending to his own business, looking after wife and small(ish) Children, and doing a thousand other things away from CQN land, Paul 67 does a remarkable job in providing the leader everyday and speaking to people about what is going on, what is being written elsewhere and keeping abreast of all sorts of developments that he reports on.
If both were on the living wage in respect of the hours put in on CQN business each week then they would be paid many hundreds of pounds per week — and yes Mr Bankier that might be classed as a second job too!!!
So give us your feedback and most importantly do not hesitate in posting your views and sharing your opinions and that knowledge that I spoke of.
Cheers
BRTH
So, from a CQN perspective we are trying to
Im really warming to Jeanette Findlay from the Celtic Trust and loved the way she came across re the Ajax carry on. But loved the way she gave your board both barrels re the Living Wage.
