AJER ‘LOOKING FORWARD’ TO CELTIC CHALLENGE

KRISTOFFER AJER insists he is in no rush to leave Celtic, despite being at the centre of some intense transfer speculation in the summer.

The Norwegian skyscraper defender was linked with Serie A giants AC Milan – coincidentally one of the Hoops’ opponents in their Europa League group – while Leicester City were also credited with an interest.

Ajer does admit there was “a lot of interest” in his services after the conclusion of last season’s interrupted campaign, but admitted he is happy to remain at the nine-in-a-row champions.

The 23-year-old versatile performer, speaking while on international duty, said: “I don’t want to comment too much on how the summer was.

“Clearly, there was a lot of interest, but I have huge respect for the club I’m at.

“I have a year and a half left on my contract and the club has given me an incredible amount.

“I came to the club as an attacking midfielder, I’ve gone on to play 150 games and play for a club that means so much to so many.

“I haven’t rushed to move on. This is a really important season for the club and I’m looking forward to it.”

Ajer and his team-mate Mohamed Elyounoussi blew the chance of playing against Scotland in the Euro play-off final next month when they crashed 2-1 to the Czech Republic in Oslo last week.

However, both are expected to be fit in time for the visit of Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox outfit to Parkhead on Saturday with a 12.30pm kick-off.
