If you’ve been on Celtic Quick News since the beginning you’ll know how high a regard I hold Alan Thompson. In 2004 I called him the most influential Celtic midfielder since the Lisbon Lions. His goal won us our first Champions League points, he scored the only goal of our two-legged Uefa Cup tie against Barcelona in 2004, he has scored two thirds of our competitive goals on German soil and his deliveries for Larsson, Hartson and Sutton were legendary. His free kicks and corners always threatened.
He also punished Rangers more than any other midfield player in the last 40 years, scoring seven goals against them.
We have had many more skilful midfielders, but no one since the Lions came closed to making the impact of Alan Thompson in the games it really mattered.
We wish him well.

All my best wishes go to Alan Thompson. I hope he finds as fulfilling a career in some capacity with another club as he had with Celtic both as player and coach. However, I get absolutely bowled over by the reactions of many supporters. How come they have been such doubting Thomases in regard to media stories about the dying club but suddenly are so ready to slurp the sour milk of the Alan Thompson/Neil Lennon insinuations with indecent alacrity. You guys never cease to amaze me. For heavens sake can you not learn to scratch your rear ends and maybe, just maybe scrape your heads out? Come on! I suppose my point really is that Big Victor was the key to our season. Charlie can have player of the year but in terms of influencing results and controlling games that we would otherwise have struggled to win he was immense. His presence is key to our future success and I just hope that is reflected in his contract as he will make Celtic big money in a future transfer.
Hopefully Lenny’s visit to Newcastle yesterday wasn’t a complete waste of time and he stopped off in Hexham on the way back to speak to Big FF ;-)

Contracts should be getting terminated, bodies ejected and money saved. I thought that was the law.
